Black is the New White is hilarious and terrifically sharp - I hope it makes it to London at some point. Up early today to do a backstage tour of the Opera House. Starts at 7am! Interested to hear what you think of the Opera House tour - afraid I didn't think it was worth the money! Nice views out to the bay though.

Nice views out to the bay though. 'the bay'? What 'bay'? Do you mean "our 'arbour"? The opera house has commanding views of some parts of Sydney Harbour which contains quite a few bays. To be serious, the iconic qualities of the Sydney Opera House are its superb location and it's fantastic exterior. I have never done the backstage tour but from numerous visits to performances there I would say that the public parts of the interior are somewhat disappointing, even though at two successive Sydney Festivals I did see Bernadette Peters and Patti LuPone do their one-woman shows in the Concert Hall which were both terrific. I did however go backstage on one occasion with a representative of Decca to see Joan Sutherland after a performance of 'Lucia di Lammermoor' but it took so long to navigate the labyrinthine concrete corridors to reach the star's dressing room that by the time we got there Joan and Richard had already left and gone home! Yes, I too will be interested to hear what Kathryn thought of the tour. and whether it was worth the money and the early start!

I heard today there's a possibility to be kept on as casual staff in my current temp job. Which might just mean I can manage to deliver on all the other 'career' stuff I'm supposed to (Book? what book?) without starving in the meantime. Also BBC Cymru saw fit to translate and publish some of my waffling today. Ooh fingers crossed for you x

I'm 'Bank' staff which means zero hour contract life, but they're almost always in need of someone somewhere, so I should get enough work to see me through book and play writing process up until the summer, when I can hopefully resume 'proper' job hunting.

It is a ridiculously expensive tour - especially compared to what other theatres charge - but it was a lot cheaper than the other thing I was thinking of doing on my last Sydney morning (the Harbour Bridge climb) so I didn’t feel so bad about paying for it. I’m not sure if it was ‘worth it’; it cost the equivalent of several theatre tickets at the prices I normally pay in London. Holiday maths is a bit different, though - it wasn’t really more expensive than other tourist activities I did of equivalent length. If I wasn’t on holiday I would not have paid for it, I think. Does that make sense? I did feel like we got a good level of access on the tour - the Joan Sutherland stage, backstage and orchestra pit, the general backstage area, the symphony auditorium and a tiny of of the backstage area (they were working on the stage set-up so we weren’t allowed on it or we’d have got in the way), the studio auditorium, the conductor’s dressing room (and even got to play the Steinway piano they put in there for Ashkenazy), finishing with breakfast in the green room. The guide was very good with questions and the odd story/bit of gossip - it didn’t feel like he was just working from a script. I enjoyed it a lot.

^And if that doesn't pan out, apparently they want to turn the Cardiff branch of "Toys R Us" into a new beach. The work is out there @emicardiff. Clearly this is my true calling in life....

Ah I must have done a cheaper version - I don't recall breakfast being included! I did however pay for the Bridge Climb and thought that was worth the money! Climbed at sunset so went up in daylight, watched the sun set and the moon rise and then climbed back down with the beautifully lit cityscape in view. Then we found a nearby pub that did great cocktails with a view of the Bridge to top it all off! Definitely ridiculously expensive compared to most tourist activities, but it made me realise I'm better with heights than I thought!

I did the backstage tour - they also do a cheaper front of house tour which is more about the history of the building. Or it might just be different now, depending on how long ago it was!

Just checking on the internet, the Sydney Opera House Front of House Tour is 1 hour and costs from £21; the Backstage Tour is 2.5 hours and costs from £95; and the Bridge Climb takes 3.5 hours and costs from £148.
Yes, the Bridge Climb is relatively expensive but I know it is a great experience and as an ex-Sydneysider I greatly regret that I never did it on the various occasions I visited Sydney in the past thirty or so years, but it's too late now!

Started packing away my uni room (I have to clear it over easter for reasons unbeknownst to but I get money for clearing it so I win really.) and I saw just how much theatre stuff I've accumlated since I started here in October. I've seen 13 shows, which is an awful lot for me. I've been to London 5 times, got me feeling pretty grateful looking at all my programmes and tickets splayed out on the floor.

Oh! Apparently I have an early mothers' day present asleep in the spare room! (The fact that I didn't hear it arrive in the early hours or that Waggy Tibs' corybantic barks also failed to rouse me is slightly alarming, but still...)
So that's nice.🌻🌻

They probably let the accommodation to tourists outside of term time. And conference delegates / sports camp / language schools. And this broke-ass academic is glad they do. Many a research trip/conference/London trip has been saved by the fact Halls of residence are let out in holiday time for pretty cheap (Sorry students)

Morrissey at the London Palladium tonight - just...yes Bloody expensive but far better than I was expecting (and while there was no support act, there were videos of (amongst others) Tatu doing How Soon Is Now, James Brown and the Four Tops played before he came onstage: how did anyone ever think he is racist?

Feeling rough as all heck with a cold, docs appointment first as a general health check, weight (too high) blood pressure (too high) blood taken (never good) and come into work as expecting to help the guv’nor prepare a set of documents for a new and potentially good client. To find he’s called in sick. Sneezing and snuffling and feeling sorry for myself and this pops up in my emails.
SHAME Your reputation is at stake Good day! Do not mind on my grammar, I am from Iran. We uploaded our malware on your device. At present I thiefted all personal info from your device. After loading, your web camera shoot the record with you wank*ng additionally it saved exactly the video you selected. In the next few days my virus collected all your social and work contacts. If you desire to eliminate all the compromising evidence-send me 305 united state dollar in Bitcoins. It is my Bitcoin number – 18T5UZ……….. You have 22h. to go after reading. As soon as I see transaction I will eliminate the videotape forever. Otherwise I will send the record to all your contacts.

Horrifying! Marvellous start to a movie. Keep carrying on, take comfort from the fact that we all know about this Iranian nutcase criminal now and can laugh with you.
Vitamin C for the cold. And lots of liquid. I’ve always interpreted liquid widely to include Chardonnay.

Gave the office a good chuckle. But prompts the questions - why 22 hours? What's wrong with 24? Or 12? Why 305 US dollars? Not 300? My personal favourite is the disclaimer for the grammar ...
One of my colleagues friends (yes, honestly a friend, not him) got stung by someone just a few years back with the sending *ahem* personal photos. Blackmailed. Sent actual money. Then contacted the police, then told the fiancee (fiancee no longer!).
Worlds gone mad. But someone has bought me a Double Decker, which is nice.

Pay up. It’s not worth the hassle or the shame. That’s what I did. And he was true to his word... 😂
Reminds me of the first episode in the new series of 24 Hours in Police Custody on C4. Poor bloke goes into Luton police station saying he’s been to a prostitute. Wife can’t know etc The next day he finds a note on his windscreen telling him he’s been seen and to pay £1000. Leave it in woods... Anyway, the punchline is that it’s a copper they all know down the station who’s doing the blackmailing! Worth a watch to see the copper’s face when he’s nicked.😂
Wish you better.🤒

You have 22h. to go after reading. I'll assume that's supposed to be a capital R on the last word, and it's a comment about the quality of train service into London Paddington.
