Well today's going far better than yesterday, after drying out my laptop's decided to play ball and work again! It's only a matter of time before it completely packs up with me as an owner, but at least it's working again for now

Widget was an elderly rescue and her owner wanted to give her a nice last few months/years It's nice when people adopt older animals, considering that many people want puppies or nothing. When I was a child we had a dog and a cat and although neither were old they were both preowned. (I don't get the love of puppies. They're cute and all, but shopping for them is like "Well, that one's nice, but do you have something that's going to piss all over the carpet?")

Made it to the airport safely and now relaxing in the lounge. Still under the weather, alas.

There was a brawl in front of my house yesterday (I didn't witness it, but my roommate did). This makes me laugh because not only was it unarmed, the only people hurt were the ones fighting, and I live in a somewhat boring part of Queens, but it was apparently three realtors from a nearby real estate office.

Very true- when/if Mum plans on getting a new dog of her own it'll be an older one. Even our old 'puppy' was nearly a year when we got her (and then nobody had wanted her, which is ridiculous). If I wanted something I had to constantly wipe up after I'd just have a baby after all...

My dad went into hopital today for the long awaited knee replacement. (“If they do me first thing, I could be home by dinner time.” Talk about cockeyed optimist.)
He packed his own suitcase. (“Weighs a bloody ton, that does,” he tells me proudly as I lift it onto the bedside cabinet.) So what’s inside it?
Not his phone. (“I’m sure I packed it. Could you run home and fetch it for me, son?”)
Not his hearing-aids. (“I only need ‘em at night...”)
And not any of his medication. (“Bloody hell,” he says to the nurse who looks at him in disbelief.)
So what is inside it?
Eight cartons of Ribena.
I don’t usually drink on a Tuesday evening...

Good luck caiaphas, you'll be chasing your dad down the street when he gets on his feet again with that new knee! Hope all goes well.

Ribena, you've suddenly made me realise what would have been great to drink at work today. I'm not really a hot drinks person but it was so cold today that I should have had a hot drink and hot ribena would have been perfect.
Talking of broken keyboards my laptop got caught in the rain and the space bar stopped working. I ended up reassigning the alt gr button to be the space bar, fine for me, confusing for anyone else!

You can heat Ribena? British life is truly mystifying at times.

Remember how couple of posts back I said Seth Rudetsky (not the tennis player, my dear Tibs) is planning something in London in April (last year it was Audra McDonald concerts). Well this year it's John Barrowman. Slightly disappointed it's not one of the big Broadway names. Although it will be funny, I wouldn't travel to London for that.

Ahhh, hot Ribena! Perfect when you’re feeling under the weather.
I’ve made it as far as Hong Kong and am now enjoying some jasmine tea. Didn’t get a lot of sleep on the flight so a bit woozy, but it’s amazing how a shower and a cup of tea can perk you up. Got a couple of hours to kill before my flight so might find a quiet spot for a nap.

Today we made the annual pilgrimage to my Dad's Sister. This year among the usual tales of distant relatives I have never met (and mostly never hope to) was a list of who was 'Queer' and 'Bent'. All while a giant Daniel O'Donnell calendar looked down upon us.
Families. Can't live with 'em....nope nope that's about it.
(In fairness she is a kind woman who compared to the rest of them on that branch of the family tree is practically a Guardian reading liberal...but there are days...)

I could drink a whole bottle of Ribena in one gulp, I'm addicted to the stuff.
But ever had a hot Vimto? Oh boy now you're talking.
(Idk how we ended up obsessing over Ribena but I'm rather enjoying it)

I’m currently sitting in Auckland’s Sky cafe (in the Sky Tower) writing this (I paid $29NZ to get up here, and they have WiFi, so I’m not leaving in a hurry) over a cup of tea. Fantastic views over a very overcast and rainy Auckland! Still, at least it’s warm.
I’m feeling the jet lag - glad I gave myself an extra day before the actual tour starts, as it’ll be an early start tomorrow.
Did a city walking tour this afternoon, which was a good introduction to the city. My hotel is on the outskirts (next to a noisy main road) so I’ll be grabbing dinner and then heading back to the hotel to attempt an early night.

Went to see the Charles I art exhibition at the Royal Academy- stunning !
Makes you wonder if he hadn't lost his head how much more he would have accumulated.
If you're in the vicinity do go.
