The highlight of today has probably hearing Kylie's leaked new single 🎶 or the huge bar of Fruit & Nut I ate while listening to it 🍫

This popped up on my FB today from my NYC trip in January 2014 so am reminiscing about that. Only pic I ever took of my Playbills. There was a polar vortex and temperatures were ranging between -10 degrees (Celsius) and -20 for over half of my week long trip. Had never experienced cold like that before. Then 4 days later is was 15 above zero! NYC weather is insane and I much prefer London weather, thank you very much. Kinky Boots was the first and only lottery I have ever won. My name was called out first and I was soooo happy, grabbed a ticket and ran into the nearest restaurant to get out of the bitter cold. No signatures on that Playbill because I don't stagedoor in -15. Must admit that I fell asleep during Once because I had nosebleeds seats, that I paid $75 for through TKTS, and was so jet-lagged. Good times! 😄

Currently cooped up in the library trying to write a paper about photosynthesis and I just need a little bit of relief from being a biology student for 5 minutes. Thanks for that guys.

It's snowing a lot in Edinburgh right now. Feels all nice and Christmas-y. My Facebook feed reminded me today, that exactly a year ago presale tickets for Hamilton were release. I remember I prepared my ticketmaster account over the weekend and then found a mobile browser for my phone that uses flash. During training session I frantically refreshed the page and finally managed to get tickets for February. 36 days to go!

Devastated to learn that one of the dogs me and Mum looked after (little Bichon just before Christmas whose owner was in hospital) has died. Even more upset that the owner is blaming us for it. Had some very nasty messages before Christmas so not surprised. But deeply upset.
Luckily (if you’ll excuse the term) she died of the same combination of illnesses our own dog did so we know without doubt we are not to blame. But obviously a horrible situation.

I stumbled across this and ended up spending far too long watching cats and window cleaners.

Really sorry to hear that @emicardiff . Hope it all works out for you. Thanks- she seems to have seen sense relative to the last time we spoke. Personally I'm not happy about what I've heard of the poor dog's life/treatment since we had her- all very upsetting and a little selfish. But something at least to know blame isn't directly being thrown our way. And obviously really feel for those involved knowing how upsetting it all is.

Had an amazing walk to work today through snow-covered Edinburgh. I'm so happy to be working close to Edinburgh castle. Haven't seen in covered in snow since 2012. I just hope it won't get all sludgy by lunchtime. Also, another achievement - I've managed to force myself into going to yoga at 7am. https://www.instagram.com/p/BeC1y_MFOUv

Completed the first tax return of my self employment.
Got some nice mail - my ticket for 'John', the book of John Masefield's Kay Harker stories (in the wake of Box of Delights last month), and a joblot of programmes of theatrical ice skating shows.

Completed the first tax return of my self employment. Congratulations @cmonfeet . Of course, that's the easy bit... the hard bit is handing over the cheque to pay the bill... Actually, on that topic, tip for self-employed newbies: open a dedicated deposit account, and put 25% of everything you earn into it, either as the cash comes in or at the end of the month (look at the total in your ledger and divide by 4). That way, not only will you have enough to meet the bill when it arrives (and remember, you have to pay not only the outstanding bill, but also a 'payment on account' against next year) but also should build up a very nice extra 'nest egg' against the unexpected, too. Thanks. I only started March last year, so the return only covered 5 weeks or so. It will be a small cheque. Still, it did feel quite satisfying!

I am in awe of you two. I am self-employed but I can't get my head around the taxes, so I'm paying a lady to do the main stuff for me every year. She doesn't come cheap, but it's so worth it compared to breaking my brain over this stuff.
Do you Brits not pay your income tax in advance? Here in Germany they fleece you quarterly based on last year's income. If you earn more the following year, you will have to pay a bit extra (though not more unless you miraculously doubled your income) and if you earn less, you even get a bit back. So no need to put a lot aside.

The combination of general insomnia and the raging winds last night resulted in less than 3 hours sleep last night. Ugh. Also zzzz.

the raging winds last night resulted in less than 3 hours sleep last night. Same here. Woke up early. Lay there thinking "f*** off" at the wind. It didn't. At 4:30 I abandoned trying to sleep and got up. My most hated type of weather.

At 4:30 I abandoned trying to sleep and got up. My most hated type of weather. At around 3 I genuinely considered getting up and either watching TV or doing some work. In the end I lay there but woke up again at 5. Grim. For the amount of wind not much seemed damaged on my way to work but ugh.

Sad to hear of death of Peter Wyngarde. In the 70s I bought his album at HMV in Oxford Street.

Cardiff is on Prince Harry Watch...though it seems nobody has noticed much from the live feed at the Castle...
Without obviously disclosing my current temp employer lets just say I've been able to eavesdrop on a valiant effort in the PR campaign about how exciting it all is...
In other news I was prevented from getting a lunchtime coffee not by a Prince invasion but a gaggle of Nordic Walkers who seemed to have taken over the nearest coffee shop by force.
Is it bed time yet?

Add me to the list of people now feeling knackered at work after being woken by the wind, and I'm supposed to be theatregoing tonight. May have to see how I feel at 5pm.

A dear friend of mine has discovered that her boyfriend cheated on her and all her Italian friends (including me) have offered her to put a horse's head in his bed. Ugh, stereotypes

There is sometimes some odd behaviour in a theatre! Last night I went to the Roundhouse to see Ulysses. Behind me was a relatively empty row of seats. A woman approached with her ticket for seat 2 in that row. She looked at the numbers starting at about 15 and moved her way along looking at the numbers as she went. In seats 3 and 4 a couple were sitting. Rather than extrapolate the sequence she had been following to the empty seats beyond this couple, she gave up, came back, searched elsewhere in that row and finally had to ask an usher. Strange!
