I found coconut Toblerone in Wilkos. I've thus far only heard rumour of its existence, and only in that fair land of Waitrose. Now the common folk can also enjoy the coconut goodness.

I didn't sleep very well last night, so at 2.30 am I finally admitted defeat and switched on the wireless, just in time to catch the end of a piece about Doncaster. Nothing unusual about that, except this was the BBC World Service.
I hadn't even been drinking!!!

New doggy friend arrived today- a little bichon called Maddie. Her elderly owner is in a nursing home following an operation, and the poor thing has been farmed from one place to another, including the son's house where she got savaged by his dog. Poor old thing. So she's staying for 3 weeks. Oh and her owner's daughter, who has been looking after her casually mentioned that Tim Rice is one of her best friends. As you do. http://instagram.com/p/BbpEzpmnZQT

Does Maddie go to visit her owner , or would that unsettle her? A friend of mine was in our wonderful, local hospice recently , and his wife used to take his dog every day . Sadly my friend has now died, but his wife intends to continue to visit the hospice with the dog , who was so friendly and calm with the staff and patients , it’s therapeutic for the patients, and it was heart warming to see him allow himself to be fussed and petted.

haha mallardo oh you! (the fluffy dog helps the cute factor!) bimse thanks! My Mum is a dog 'carer' which means dogs come to live with us quite often but usually for owners on holiday- we lost our family dog in February so it's a nice way to have dogs without getting a new one! In a weird twist Maddie's Mum used to live near where we do in Cardiff, but now lives in Bristol. Her daughter has had the dog but she has to travel for work for a few weeks so it wasn't practical. Sadly it's a bit far to travel for Maddie to visit in the meantime but once the daughter is back she'll go and see her (and if Mum isn't well enough still we're going to have her back again). She's just gategrashed a Skype meeting I was having! Scene stealer!

@emicardiff That's a very cute-looking dog but I do not envy you having to keep all that white fluff clean! Is she blow-dried after baths?

Found myself in London this morning so decided to go for a browse in Foyles. However, it doesn't open until 12.00.....neither does TKMaxx.......or Muji........or Paperchase.
However, Bensons for Beds opens at 11.00.
Ooops.

Saw Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool over the weekend and loved it, if Annette Benning doesn't win hatfuls of awards there's no justice....

@emicardiff, has that dog been to the puppy salon? She looks particularly coiffed. Like a canine Barbara Bush.

I am now the incredidbly proud owner of the tiniest pair of silver glittery peep toe sandals and a silk and lace wedding headress with individually sewn pearls. The shoes have Regent Shoe Stores 31 Wardour St, Shaftesbury Avenue, London W1 on each leather heel. Both the shoes and the headress are in almost perfect condition... My old dad has just found them in the back of a wardrobe he is clearing out. (He's done a lot of clearing out over the past couple of weeks as his water tank- situated right above his bedroom- burst, causing it to rain all over his bed.) It's a lot for him to cope with on his own, having lost his wife of 58 years to the dreaded C word last summer. He gave them to me, still in their original boxes, as he thought I'd want them- they were worn by my mum on their wedding day back in 1958. The pearls are still shiny and the glitter is still sparkling.

You know this feeling, when on your way form work you suddenly think "I'M GONNA BAKE A CAKE TONIGHT!!!!" and you buy all of the ingredients, make dinner, eat dinner, wash the dishes and then you start making cake. And then you wait for the sponge to cool, and start whipping the cream. You are excited. You have to stabilise the cream with gelatin, because the recipe says so. And so you do. You soak the gelatin in water for the first time in your life, then you heat it up, and then you add it to the whipped cream. And then the whole thing curdles and turns into a yellowish buttery mess... Lesson learned. At least the sponge is fine and I'll just have to make new cream tonight. The end result should look like this: malacukierenka.pl/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/ciasto-lesny-mech5.jpg

Once, just once I'd like someone to send me a house-trained dog to look after. Obviously accidents happen, but almost every single dog in the last what 4 months as defiantly NOT been house trained to a degree most people would deem 'acceptable'.
Actually more to the point just TELL the damn dog sitters if it isn't house-trained.

Telling her pupils to stand to one side to let me through, a teacher called me a gentleman.
Then I saw Dickie Bird. He wasn't even crying! This was just before 1, so he must have an appointment somewhere at 4 o'clock.

Actually more to the point just TELL the damn dog sitters if it isn't house-trained. I wonder if it could be separation anxiety? Apparently that can cause otherwise house-trained dogs to have accidents. It would explain why every owner in the last 4 months said their dog is house-trained, and they almost all had accidents.

Apparently that can cause otherwise house-trained dogs to have accidents. It would explain why every owner in the last 4 months said their dog is house-trained, and they almost all had accidents. *means it nicely* between us we're very experienced with dogs so we'd have thought of that...and there's ways to look out for it- we know all their "toilet calls" because that's part of the (extensive!) info people have to provide before they come. Also much of it continues well beyond the dogs being settled in (and there would be other signs of anxiety that we don't get) And actually it's been a lot of younger dogs just not trained properly...and well people lie! Mainly when they think we won't take them if they're not toilet trained (we would we'd just like to know in advance!) Sorry I just feel a bit protective as it's a "job" and it feels like being told we don't know what we're about!
