I wonder if he meant to say Leicester? I wouldn't be shocked because they have been doing a lot of ALW recently/in the near future what with opening the phantom tour, LND tour and then doing TWOO at Christmas.

I get the Woke 2020 mantra but changing Papa to Mama was a mistake musically.
Even a huge rich amazing female voice can’t match the strong powerful male voice that Papa had/has. The new Starlight version 5 (gulp) just doesn’t cut the mustard. I wish they left things alone!
On another note the Starlight Halle Theatre in Bochum is sensational.

Says something when I tear up at Starlight in German. Oh how I miss the pure unbridled joy and silliness of this show, and theatre generally. It is my food, my nourishment. (Some folk are vegan, and that's fine too.)

So, a scaled back Starlight Express at the Gillian Lynne Theatre... Any takers? Take out Stalls Row I, replace with track, retain the revolve for audience participation with extended entrance/exit ramps up to the circle level and a pop up bridge in the centre revolve.
Would fill the theatre from here to eternity and folk would pay top dollar to see it.

Oh I saw that tour, it was hilarious! In its naffness. I loved the screen saying "PUT ON YOUR 3D GLASSES NOW!". As ever when ALW tries to modernise anything, it ends up being more retro campy and kitsch than it was originally. Also, the rapping. Brutal, I remember having a blast though!

I remember being horribly underwhelmed by the first tour with the 3D glasses, two minuscule ramps at the back of the stage and a pathetic four foot thrust out of downstage centre. In fact, when I think about the differences between ‘Starlight’ in London vs on tour I totally feel the pain of the Phantom zealots. Its a show of scale, not some lame excuse to reproduce it as cheaply as possible. Why they haven’t just stuck it in a great big tent and toured it with a decent track & a whacking great lighting rig, is beyond me.

I still like my idea of a purpose-built out-of-town skate venue with attached theatre (and restaurant, hotel and tonnes of parking). And a tie-in with National Express coaches to get people there.

And a tie-in with National Express coaches to get people there. Wouldn't it be more appropriate for people to get there by train?

True, but building a station would probably be harder. Or the trains would never be on time. You'd paint the coaches to look like trains, then they'd be advertising as people saw them on the roads.
