Pearl is just so bland and uninteresting. The real love story here is Rusty and Dusty. I really loved the guy playing Dusty, I just thought he was so cute and lovable! And I did some Instagram stalking earlier, and he is openly gay, so him and George should really just get together, they would be a fabulously cute couple! Haha, I love it! Though are we talking Dustin and Rusty? Or Anthony and George?!! Either way, yup, CUTE couple :-)

I spent that whole number watchin Jamal give face, ass and body poppin' realness. At that point, that was the most entertaining part! Jamal was SO good during Electra's entrance, i couldnt help but watch him. He had some fierce moves. In fact i thought he was great all night. He was fab, such brilliant characterisation. In fact all the ensemble were amazing! Grrrr, can't believe it's all over so soon!

Wow. Your third post and you're telling us what to do. So who were you before you got banned? Hi Seriously - I've never been banned from anything. I've been on this forum for a long time, tending to read and enjoy the comments and banter that goes on. However, the bitching about MP grated - particularly as I felt she gave a good performance. Just because some of us are lurking, reading and valuing this forum doesn't mean that we don't have a voice should we choose to use it. On the contrary, those who choose to bitch and snipe would be better served investing their energy in more positive dialogue about the shared passion for theatre that we all have. So on my fourth post, I'm explaining myself to somebody who presumes I got banned because I dared to speak up? Open your mind a little, and if in saying "us" you count yourself as one of those who enjoys bitching performers, then yes, I am telling you what to do. I don't even know who you are, but I'm guessing that your talent doesn't extend much beyond your keyboard. That said, as a fan of Kenneth Williams, I admire your choice of photo. Wow. You've gone from telling us what to do, to representing everyone now. So were you Parsley?

I've always thought the "Sheila's Wheels" advert had a touch of "Pumping Iron" about it.

Does anyone know why they decided to switch Poppa to be female? Seems a bit of a random change - did they change anything to explain it, like anything that wouldn't have worked with Poppa? I do think it's a shame to lose the original all-male duet of 'Only You'. Though not as much as the absence of Rolling Stock bugs me.

The gender swap of Poppa seemed very arbitrary - it makes no difference to the plot whether it's a male or female role. The duet was great though.

The Lord does like to think he's a bit down with the kids and gender swapping is a bit of a trend at the mo. Either that or he met Mica Paris in Waitrose and fancied offering her a job.

Did manage to blog the thing in the end, if anyone cares. I have to ask what lyric is this referring to: Sneaky Patrick Sullivan brings back C.B. with gusto, too – and the only really dated (but MUST be left in) – lyric in the show. I'm having a mind blank!

I thought making it Momma brought a different slant to it. Evened up the sexes for sure - Starlight is a little too male in the leads list, and it brought women to the front far more strongly. Good change, IMHO. It was way too facile. The simplest possible gender-swap without affecting anything. A box ticked but nothing more. If you changed the gender of any of the other five main characters it would require real work. All this involved was changing 'he' to 'she.'

The whole CB number, with its CB radio slang. Stuff like "10-4 Smokey Bear" etc. Meant something in the 80s, probably baffling to most now. Not as cringingly embarrassing as the Brexit joke which made no sense whatsoever. Oh and that awful "swipe right" line in the song sung by the three girls.

Yes I hated all that and even more so the Bjork reference. You don't need to reference the outside world (although I did think they should've replaced 'missing link' by 'Weakest Link' on the first tour). You can be relevant without the blatant/cheap references. I yearn for a day when Andrew and Arlene take a backseat and give all the material from throughout the years to someone with fresh eyes, to make the show the best it can be. Make it as 80s as possible and proud.

I hated the swipe right bit, and assume the Brexit bit is temporary as it will date so badly. I must be old as 10-4 etc... didn't seem dated to me!

I hated the swipe right bit, and assume the Brexit bit is temporary as it will date so badly To me references like that already feel dated. It sounds weird when I try to put it into words, but the very fact that something is so obviously trying to sound up to date paradoxically makes it feel as though it isn't. Perhaps it's because for a reference to work it has to have been around long enough to enter everyone's consciousness, and that means it's already lost its freshness.

The simplest possible gender-swap without affecting anything In that case, I feel it's one that just goes on personal perspective. I did feel it added something new, you didn't d'James, so we simply differ on it . The Brexit line was just odd, and I bet it will be gone by any revival time. The swipe was just a bit odd, but didn't bother me. Guess the main thing was they left UNCOUPLED intact, phew. Apparently they did change UNCOUPLED a bit on the Saturday but nothing major.

Due to child labour laws in Germany they will never get a young boy to play control sadly, which is a shame as I think it worked with the iPad. I also hope they leave I Got Me to the workshop.

Wait, is Mama not in the show usually?! My only reference is the workshop concert production and I thought she was amazing! Cant imagine it played by a man, or if it would have the same impact for me!

Nah, it's been Papa (well Poppa in the English version) since the dawn of times. I guess turning him into Mama is the easiest way to have a female engine at last - although I still think they might just as well make Electra female.
I assume that Mama/Momma also sang "I am the starlight" with Rusty then? Dammit, I feel a trip to Bochum coming up next year to check that out for myself.
