I'm sure Qdos would love to use Warwick and a company of dwarfs, he's very popular.

Best panto ever, this was absolutely hilarious. Actually, it's not really a panto - I wouldn't take the kids, not because of the dirty jokes but because there were a couple of truly scary bits that would have cleared out anyone under 8. The characters aren't really the DW characters we know - Idle Jack was just Paul Z doing his brilliant act; Sarah the Cook became Sarah the Sweetshop owner, doing his/her act. The writers surpassed themselves with changing the words to Elaine Paige's well-known songs - absolutely brilliant.
I nearly didn't book because of EP, but she really was a good sport and happy to send herself up. Nigel Havers was hilarious - they didn't even bother giving his character a name this year. He was just 'Niiiiiijul' usually spoken with a long sigh in the middle! Diversity were a great addition and the dance numbers zinged along - the ensemble had some fantastic dancers amongst them too. The costumes were amazing, although I'm not sure what Emma Williams had done to upset that particular department. I'd never seen Charlie Stemp before - his dancing was great and he had a nice stage presence.
Gary Wilmot was brilliant - his tube station song made the Joseph song with all the colours look like a mere vocal warm-up. A shame in a way that he couldn't do much real panto dame stuff due to the nature of having so many big stars on stage.
But this panto IS Julian. He is such a master of laid-back smut and he is absolutely sublime. His rapport with Elaine was just fabulous and the younger members of the cast deferred to him and let him do what he wanted. As usual, it was impossible to tell what was scripted (definitely a lot more than we are led to believe) and what wasn't - but that's the beauty of it all really, isn't it?

Any further thoughts on whether or not EP is singing live in this? she 100% is. I say this with such confidence as when I saw it the other week, one of the big notes she went for was so horrendously flat we all winced. You lie! She is the First Lady of British Musical Theatre. You besmirch her good name sir. How very dare you. If it wasn't Christmas I'd come there and sing the score of Piaf to you right now.

She was indeed singing live when I saw it, I was only saying to someone the other day: wasn't she good, oh so good. Wasn't she fine oh so fine.

Fair play to Elaine for getting her teeth into a part like this when she could easily have played a fairy godmother part etc.
Interesting to see what the top earners get for panto on Daily Mail online a couple of days ago. Both Julian and Elaine are near the top.

Yes I saw that article too. Colleen Nolan being the top earner at 200k, Julian was second I think at 192k. Not bad eh!

Some shows run longer than others Coleen's was for 72 performances, whilst the Palladium is certainly less. John Barrowman must be on a very high per show fee I'd guess too.
The Palladium must cost a lot to stage as Nigel would command a big fee, Gary Wilmot and Paul Zerdin likewise are veterans. Charlie and Emma as West End leads would know their worth and Diversity especially Ashley would all need to be paid. Throw in the larger ensemble too than at other venues.
Has there been any mention of Ashley missing shows to do Dancing on Ice judging.
People may mock panto but a good performer can make a year's money in a few weeks.

I was a bit surprised at Coleens as its also a smaller theatre however thinking about it Coleen is probably the bigger name compared to Elaine and Julian as well with more current exposure thanks to loose women

No, but I was watching the panto the other day with this in mind and it wouldn't be hard for another senior member of Diversity to be trained to understudy him for the 2 or 3 performances he'd miss. Also, I'm pretty certain the full diversity line-up were not on stage at the Palladium.

Julian and Elaine are on "more per show" than Coleen but Ms Nolan has certainly got a good deal as it's not such a big venue as others and she isn't a home town star like others.

Went to the matanee today. Fantastic show. But very much for the adults than kids. I didnt know Charlie Stemp is gay until Elaine and Julian basically confirm it on stage.

Looking forward to seeing this on its final weekend of performances. Booked Row W of stalls based on dynamic pricing - how is this view for this production? Will much be cut off by the overhang? I hope Dick doesn't appear too small from my seat

Thinking back to when I saw this.... for me one of the best lines in it was "You don't get that at Hamilton" i don't know why but really made me laugh!

They do need through to change it more next year. Paul Zerdin should either use a different puppet and change the audience interaction or be dropped.

I would expect a wholly new line up next year. With the exception of stars who have a link to the venue (the chaps in Newcastle, Matt Slack in Birmingham, etc), Qdos tend to shuffle people after 2 years, generally speaking.
Qdos do have some well known stars in their ranks, so I'm really intrigued to see what they come up with for next year.

I hope Dick doesn't appear too small from my seat For this specific production most of the action takes place right at the front of the stage and the ‘special effects’, I think, look best from the rear stalls! Hope that you have a great time.

Well of course I LOVED this show.
Stupendous production values and so funny. I barely stopped laughing. Yes, the plot gets lost especially in the second act and it becomes a variety show but hey, it's Christmas and the season of goodwill.
All the "forgotten" lines, corpsing, and prompts well rehearsed and expertly delivered of course. Although I did feel there were some moments when Julian and Elaine seemed tired (12 show weeks!) and did not seem to know what day it was, but of course quickly recovered the pace being the professionals they are.
The Twelve Days of Christmas routine brought the house down only surpassed by Gary Wilmots Underground Station song which received ( rightly) the biggest applause of the night.
Nigel Havers in a bigger part than last year nearly stole the show and was hugely popular with the audience who all seemed to have been last year and were in on the joke.
Very few kids in the audience - which Julian acknowledged with " I really don't know why they let them in!" although the kids will have enjoyed it!
Elaine Paige was a good sport - the lyric re-writes of her "hits" were excellent and her line something like "I'll have Dick in my clutches" brought the house down! Worth the price of admission alone!
I didn't enjoy it quite as much as last year simply because I felt I had seen it all before - last year... the same formula - and in Paul Zerdins case exactly the same act! I feel they need to ring the changes a bit although given the response of the PACKED theatre - why change a winning formula?
Edited to add that the front of house staff at the Palladium were all superb - efficient and very friendly setting the right atmosphere for the show.
I had a lot of teenagers around me - girls and boys who of course were glued to their phones before curtain up - taking selfies, texting and chatting and I thought I was in for a nightmare of picture taking, checking phones and chatting through the performance, but a credit to the show and the performances once the show started the phones went away and they were completely engaged with the show, roaring with laughter and whooping and applauding. It added to the pleasure of the evening!

I hope Dick doesn't appear too small from my seat Thanks for the heads up, I'm now going tomorrow! (my first pants in about 5 years, my friend raved about last years one which I helped her get front row tickets for!) I also hope Dick is at least moderate in stature from my viewpoint

I saw this last night and loved it, great to see a panto where they have thrown a lot at it rather than just shoe horning in a celebrity. I loved all of Elaine's songs and Gary's Underground Song. Was there a live orchestra? I saw one listed in the programme but didn't notice an orchestra pit?!?
