I don't think it will be Natasha. If I were her I wouldn't be looking to tour FG. Bigger fish to fry hopefully.
As long as it's not Sheridan I'm ok. As talented as she may be Im over Sheridan big time. That one performance was bloody great but her subsequent histrionics have been a huge turn off.

Lovely to see Natasha recognised in the west end frame understudy of the year nominations for alternate Fanny 👌🏻 So glad she's been recognised - she's done an amazing job and handled the difficult circumstances with such grace. As well as being incredible in the role and making it her own. Hope she wins!

Feel free to knock me down on this, but if she actually turns up and does the shows, I dont feel that its a ridiculous casting choice? Maybe sharing the role with someone else for half the tour? I don't know.

Mine arrived just now, too . Quick comparison of the signature with the one on my "Legally Blonde" CD... all good, by the look. Only difference was 2 kisses from Ms Woods, only 1 from Ms Brice... I'm slightly hurt... It's not you, it's her.

Finally saw this today and loved it - I thought Sheridan was phenomenal, and the cast overall were excellent. Definitely worth the early start to day seat - I doubt anyone who arrived much after 8 got tickets at all as they were only offering single tickets scattered randomly throughout the house after I got the last two dayseats!
Now to figure out how I can manage to get back to this again before it closes...

It appears Natasha was still doing American Idiot on Sunday as Amelia put a photo up of the cast with Rebel Wilson and Natasha is in the picture, unless of course the photo was taken a while back? http://instagram.com/p/BJGvZw7jpO3

After many, many months, I am finally here. Having booked at midnight when the show went on sale at the Menier, to having to rebook the following morning because I'd done a clash with The Winter's Tale, then having to swap out to The Savoy because she was off, then having her off again at the Savoy... finally, I am here. She better be good. And on. (She is, I checked). Enjoy!!! It's amazing (I thought it was anyway!). Sheridan is a star too! Report back!

Sheridan is usually a star. In this she isn't. I swear her hands have never stopped shaking in act 1. Such iconic songs are supposed to be sung, not stumbled through. But it's a good musical - I'm just sat wondering what anyone else could have done with it. I know its a transfer so it was originally (or at least supposedly) designed for a smaller stage, so they've done well with the set in The Savoy. It feels intimate, so I'm very thankful to be near the front. But the intimacy comes from the direction too - abd I don't think it's well directed at all (for The Savoy). Still, I'm very happy to be sat watching it. I was very disappointed with the direction on 'Greatest Star', thought it was a good effort - if not rushed overall - on 'Parade' and thought 'People' was the best performance from Sheridan vocally thus far. I just feel Sheridan is miscast. Interesting. An acquaintance who has seen Funny Girl many times is there tonight and says Sheridan is "absolutely on fire".

Such iconic songs are supposed to be sung, not stumbled through. Says who? There's no right or wrong, just different interpretations and your own personal preference. There's nothing wrong with her performance of the songs per se, it's just not to your taste - there's a difference. Yes, it would have been interesting to see her belt out Don't Rain on My Parade à la Barbra and lots of others who've done it before, but that wouldn't fit with her interpretation of the character, and the point that's made quite clearly that Fanny's name has been made as much on her comedic acts as her singing voice. But there's no rule anywhere that says the songs have to be belted, it's all a question of performance choice and interpretation. She's clearly putting a hell of a lot into each performance, and she's an actress more than a singer so I don't think it's particularly fair to say she's not a star just because she doesn't live up to how you'd want the character to be played - she's never claimed to be a singing star, but she is widely acclaimed as an acting one, so to my mind the more important benchmark here is her acting prowess, especially when she's clearly made different acting choices than others who've played the part before.

The notes that the composer intended to be sung are set out in the score, along with some directions as to dynamics and expression, such as when to pause or rallentando, for example.
But are you really telling me that the score directs singers or musicians in the one and only one way they are able to or are permitted to interpret it? I hope not, because as a matter of basic musicality that just doesn't fly. If that were true, every single recording of a particular piece of music would sound exactly the same, but they don't, do they? You can't tell me that Barbra Streisand and Lea Michele, for example, sound exactly the same when they sing Don't Rain on My Parade (for example), because they don't - they're singing the same notes (for the most part - there's nothing to stop a singer switching a few notes if they want to, there's no law against it!), but their voices are different and their choices as to how they use their voices are different. Neither is right, neither is wrong, it's a matter of personal preference.
And of course Christines, Elphabas etc. are all different - why else would there be such debate over which does the best Think of Me or Defying Gravity? Belt or no belt? Recorded top E or live? It's the same score in each case, but each performer interprets it differently - that's what music is all about, and it's only one element of what a musical theatre performance is all about.
You keep going on about how things "should" be sung, but that's a concept that simply doesn't exist outside the realm of opinion. The score is the backbone, part of the tools of the trade, but it's up to the performer and their musical director how they utilise it to help shape the overall performance.

Take the score of My Fair Lady, for example. Rex Harrison was nowhere near what Fritz Loewe wrote. Does that make the original the way to do it or are the composer's actual notes and phrasing to be used? The answer, as always, is that there is no answer, writers write and performers/directors interpret.
I always liked Streisand's singing but she doesn't play characters through song, she just sings as herself, and that's why (I believe) she quickly withdrew from musical theatre, same with Minnelli, they are better in a cabaret setting. Take someone like Gwen Verdon and she was never a 'great voice' but she was a great performer of songs in character (Someone like Rivera hovers inbetween).

Put simply - vocally, Sheridan's no better than Kimberley Walsh would be.

Singing ability and interpretation are not two discrete concepts. It's perfectly possible for a good singer to sing within themselves if that's what they think a particular song requires. They're never going to give the top end of their ability all the time because their voice would be wrecked if they did.
I'm not saying Sheridan is a singing superstar, we all know she's not in the top league of musical theatre singers on vocals alone, but it's simply not correct to assume that every note she sings is at the top of her ability and that's it. It's more complicated than that and it is inextricably linked to the choices she has made in how to portray the character.
That's all I'm going to say on the subject because we'll just be going around in circles otherwise - clearly we both have very different concepts of what makes a musical theatre performance, or in fact any musical performance at all, so we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I still think she sounds like she's impersonating Cilla in everything she sings. It's that back of the throat thing. I do wonder if it was a case of "you sound like Cilla, want to play her?" Or "we want you to play Cilla, can you sound like her?" The former I suspect. She's not as good as Cilla was back in her prime, but let's not go THERE again

I think that role and Mrs Biggs are the best roles she played - her acting was marvellous in them
