I'm going to try and make another trip to see this before it closes, but I won't hold my breath! If I was older I would go in a heartbeat, need to persuade a family member to come with me!!

Ah George. A few of us wanted to see you at stage door or try and do something for you after following this thread and seeing how passionate you were to have a great experience (almost like how you'd want to treat a younger sibling!) but you said you were coming a Thursday next month! Either way, so glad you enjoyed it and the programme found you well.

Saw this show last night... Wow!! I have been waiting to see this show all year and it certainly lived up to my expectations. A producer I know put me in contact with somebody at Sonia Friedman regarding Sheridan Smith so I was given a personally signed program before the show began! It was so lovely, Sheridan had written a short message and signed it! I thought that set was really good. It was so simple but quite effective - would've been nice to have seen a different backdrop each time, rather than just a gauze curtain hanging there. I loved the use of the travelators to represent walking etc and also to bring in scenery - it worked really well. Michael Mayer has directed the show very well. Also loved the lighting design. Sheridan Smith is simply amazing! Her natural comedic timing is great and the way she interacts with the audience is so lovely. She is so funny to watch and is also an amazing performer - singing and acting is amazing. I really hope she wins an Oliver for this role and that she is in more shows too in the future. She cried at the curtain call. Met her after the show at stage door, really happy to meet her. Not too busy to be honest. I got a picture with her but I wish I had told her how she is my favourite actress! I got quite shy and didn't say much so I waited so long and hardly spoke! She is so friendly though and meets everyone there - such a lovely lady! Whole cast is sublime. Darius is amazing as is Marliyn Cutts as Mrs Brice. Lots of laughs in the show. 5 stars I'm so glad you enjoyed it George, it is one of my favourite shows of the year so am glad to see you liked it so much! And well done on getting to meet Sheridan. Don't worry about being shy, it happens. I thought I was gonna be shy when I met Louise Dearman, I became a bit hysterical haha.
But so glad you finally got to see it!

Either way, so glad you enjoyed it and the programme found you well. Aww thank you so much! That's really made my evening! I only said a Thursday next month because I was a bit apprehensive about revealing what day I was going online - but I wish I did now! You were incredible last night, really great actress!! The whole ensemble were amazing! Receiving the the programme from stage door before the show literally made my evening - it was so nice to collect it and see how Sheridan had written a brief message! I'm glad I got a photograph with her at stage door too after the show - even though I got quite shy! Thank you again so much for saying those kind words - it's so nice to hear from someone on the show - I can't believe it! It's a marvellous show, one of my favourites now! I'm going to try and get somebody to take me again before the run ends!

That's nice Aimee, although there are many people very passionate too, some quite disabled and spent every bit of energy they had to go all the way to the theatre also. Some who spent every spare penny they had.
Perhaps some wish to extend the same gratitude to others.

Did you bake a Gingerbread Sheridan and give it to her?
Glad you finally got to meet her

This thread is for discussion of Funny Girl. It is not for making personal attacks.
The existing "welcome back" messages have been left for the moment, but any additional posts that aren't on-topic may be removed without notice.

A very short clip of the final moments of People have been put on YouTube since Sheridan's return, I personally think she sounds great!

Well, I think we can all hear who wins that one! To be honest, I don't think there is a clear winner there. They are both obviously good in their own ways but you fault Sheridan's stage presence of her performing skills. She is a very good singer, as is Natasha, and I don't think Natasha is so much better than Sheridan

How is this thread still going on and how are we still having these conversations and how in hell am I finding myself responding to this? Never saw Natasha but listening to this, TBH I'm not impressed either especially with her being the "singer" of the two. They are both so flat.

Well, I think we can all hear who wins that one! I mean.. Clearly Natasha 👏🏻 - not saying there's anything wrong with Sheridan's performance but Natasha's voice is just 👌🏻

God, I regret sharing that audio of Sheridan now. Natasha, as I have said prior has the stronger singing voice, but Sheridan is a lot stronger in the emotional aspect of the performance in my opinion!
I always feel obliged to put "in my opinion" on this thread just because everyone gets so feisty on here.

Sheridan is better. Fanny's character is meant to be a bit crap and lacking polish but making up with it with her charisma - which describes Sheridan's singing to a tee

Whose "better" is just personal opinion. It isn't the X Factor, there is no winner.

What roles do people think Natasha would be suited to after Funny Girl is over?

Wow I couldn't feel more differently. Fanny's character yes is supposed to be lacking polish, but the performance, humour and very importantly the voice she has is what stops the audience and makes them go Wow - she's a star. In Greatest star she says "they're gonna hear a voice" - proceeding to then show that voice. Polish and performance is something that can and does grow through the show as the character gains confidence but the voice is something she has from the beginning. I mean I don't think those songs weren't written to be sung by someone with an okish voice. For this reason I personally prefer Natasha. I have seen Sheridan and I'll agree she is a phenomenal actress but for me, Natasha has both the acting and singing talent for this role.

Agreed, Shady23! They're both different and both good in different ways. I've only seen the show once (at the menier with Sheridan) and it was great. Sheridan was fab too. She may not be the strongest singer (But I did think she sang well) but that's not really the only necessary element of the character. To me she was definitely playing the character more like the real Fanny than Barbra's take, which I found very interesting.

I agree, I wouldn't be surprised if she toured with it either. However, I know she is getting quite a few more offers and auditions now, so if she is offered a new West End part, then I wouldn't be surprised if she took that role instead and starting making a career for herself away from FG?
