Is this transferring next year or was that just a rumbling? Their aim with this run is for it to lead to a U.K. tour, rather than a West End transfer, thus the removal of the revolves this time round. This run is also being used to try and attract investors to make a film version of the musical. No idea if either are going to work out yet though. Worth pointing out that this is conjecture based on site gossip - none of this has been confirmed by the OV. Ticket sales have not been as strong as hoped, though admittedly in a market where other shows are also struggling to put bums on seats.

Looks like I need to book my 11th visit to catch some of these understudies! Oh, don't.... I've basically moved into the Old Vic since May... Hope you’re making good use of the new OV loyalty scheme! A couple of my visits so far have been free, and I’ve got enough points saved up now for another free £50 ticket!

Given that anyone reading this thread doesn't have anything more to go on and various people have (or claim to have) inside information of a sort that can change, be wrong etc....
It doesn't strike me as an odd thing to say at all. Unless of course you'd like to backup/source your comment?

I am indeed - several tickets have been free as I take my daughters sometimes plus have been dragging friends and family along (and have tons of tickets booked ahead too). I have literally spent many hundreds with the OV this year - gladly so too.

Okay, well you simply stated what has been stated further up the thread already and there are many people on this thread who would love proper confirmation of a run at the Savoy in 2024 followed by a tour. As Mr Barnaby originally mentioned it, I'm happy as their info is usually spot on. If you have proper inside info that can take things beyond conjecture, please spill (and if so, please can you also confirm what the plans are for a new production of Martin Guerre which has been workshopped at the OV for a while)...

I thought I would extend my thoughts on the show a little more given that it has some mixed response on here which I find interesting. I rated the show as 5 stars on the poll.
For whatever reason, there’s usually a show in my life that I become a bit obsessed with. It’s normally something that I identify strongly with for whatever reason. Mostly though, it’s a feeling of comfort that the show gives me whether listening to the soundtrack, following the insider scoop on socials, seeing others enjoy it and feel similar and simply watching it. For me, Groundhog Day is one of those, increasingly rare, musicals.
I first saw it during previews on Broadway when I had just turned 21. I loved it. Since then it has been on my best musicals rotation on Spotify playing round and round and round. Since then a lot has happened in my life from anxiety, panic attacks, real low moments, heartbreak. Musicals (and especially this one) help me feel things and they help bring me back up. I feel part of something and I find strength.
The show hit really different this time and some of it was difficult to watch (especially the first parts of act 2)
I suppose my point it that sometimes, for me, it could be a 2 star show and I’d still think of it as a 5 in my head simply because of my overall love for it.
Groundhog Day maybe isn’t a perfect musical or a perfect production but when Andy Karl looks towards the audience at the auction and sings ‘Drove out of town, took a right’ it fills my heart and I’m ‘home’

Show stop tonight in the middle of act two. All lights went off all of a sudden, then the emergency lights went on. They were able to continue after a few minutes, and the fact that they started the scene from the top made for an extra layer of “we’ve seen this before”, which was funny.
A few other mishaps during the show. For instance, when Andy Karl turned to ask Nancy for her high school and English teacher name, she was nowhere to be found. He improvised and ended up ending the scene without talking to her, so it didn’t make as much sense when he knew all the info about her in the following scene.
But all of that made a bit more sense when Andy Karl made a small speech after the bows, calling out the swings who were on tonight and who saved the show by replacing many cast members who were sick.
Still, a fantastic show! And I’m obviously very thankful it wasn’t cancelled so I could watch it again.

We were lucky this performance went ahead at all considering the absences, and the power cut just added to the general weirdness! Well done to everybody for ploughing on with the show!

Wow - what was the cast list??? Also, pardon an ignorant American here, but do theaters like The Old Vic have more than one cover per role? Compared to Broadway, I had a harder time figuring out who covered which role.

Wow - what was the cast list??? Also, pardon an ignorant American here, but do theaters like The Old Vic have more than one cover per role? Compared to Broadway, I had a harder time figuring out who covered which role. I'm sorry, I didn't take a photo of the cast list screen. I've seen this production many times and was trying to work out why certain people were covering certain roles, and assumed they were simply rotating roles so covers could play. It was only when the performance got underway that it was obvious they were light on actors and probably only just had enough cast to perform. Jasmine Colangelo was my star of the night - she was all over the place in different roles. I have no idea how she did it, and it is no wonder that the first Nancy cue was missed - I doubt she had enough time for the costume change - but somehow the cast improvised the gap and the scene moved forward without a stop. I've always wondered what would happen if Groundhog Day ground to a halt mid-performance, and the powercut showed this (as Ned was sharing his family photos - the lights went out on the lines "wow, she [wife] is hot, Ned"... "she was, she was, she passed...") I love this show anyway but even more so after the way the cast pulled together to give the audience a performance, and Andy Karl broke the applause to specifically call out the swings for recognition. It was a beautiful generous gesture and absolutely right. It felt very special last night despite the clunky performance. To answer the question, this production doesn't particularly have more covers. There are several swings whose job it is to cover different roles, some of which might duplicate due to the fast pace of the show, which doesn't allow much time for costume changes etc. The best way to describe last night's cast was that the covers were as interchangeable and versatile as those you might find in a show like "Come From Away", which is possibly as complex and pacy. Last night was a demonstration of the invaluable contribution of swings to keeping the show on the road and they should all feel very proud of their contribution, especially Jasmine who deserves specific recognition for her effort.

Has anyone tried day tickets for this? Can I just turn up an hour before the show and get them?

Has anyone tried day tickets for this? Can I just turn up an hour before the show and get them? Go to Old Vic website from the day before then 10am on the day; prices drop to £50 in stalls if lots of availability. If on a budget, side seats in dress and baylis are available from £13.

Great tip, thank you! I was also wondering if there’s ever a chance to get discount tickets in The Old Vic.. You could try 'in person' - certainly no harm if you are passing by, though I'd imagine the best deals are already on the website unless they have walk-in prices. The dynamic pricing for Groundhog Day varies sometimes by the hour depending on demand, but also worth considering that as the run draws to an end, there's likely to be higher demand, less tickets, so my advice would be to go and see it sooner rather than later. Also if you are an OV member, don't forget that your loyalty points are valid even on lower priced tickets. Edit: Beware though, it works the other way - if demand increases then prices will head up to the £150 nose-bleed territory!

Has anyone tried day tickets for this? Can I just turn up an hour before the show and get them? A friend saw it on Friday night buying a ticket in person from the box office at about 19.20. She was offered £13, £39.50 and a couple of options above £50 too.

New trailer just dropped on social media - not sure why they didn’t release this weeks ago! Some weird choices made with regards to editing of the music, but this is much better than those rehearsal videos to try and tempt those handful of friends I have left that I haven’t taken to see it yet!
Regarding prices every day is totally different, but they do tend to drop prices a couple of days in advance, then sometimes again first thing in the morning, and then later in the day. As an example a seat I sat in front stalls for £39 on Monday 2 weeks ago is currently £65.50 today. In my experience in person at the box office don’t offer anything different to what you see on the website.

I saw this yesterday.
I felt like it took a good 15 minutes before I started to enjoy and the the sound seemed a bit off as well, but it seemed to sort itself out and I really enjoyed it. The songs were catchy and the disappearing and reappearing Phils were very clever!

I saw this last night and agree that the sound was slightly off at the beginning of the show! Bill Nighy was in the building, nice chap. The illusions all but ONE I managed to figure out. I really am in love with this show and there was a great atmosphere last night. Hoping audiences keep coming to this.

I've sat all over the stalls now for this show. There seems to be two flat spots sound wise between outer rows F and J and N and R. Don't know whether it's the design, crossover or the building itself. Sounds sensational in the dress circle. Not experienced the Baylis.

It was mostly Andy Karl's mic that slightly dipped as well as Tanisha Spring's vocals, then happened again. I've only ever seen from Baylis Circle until last night so just put it down to a tech issue which was quickly resolved by the stage management/sound.
