Having recently become an octogenarian and started complaining about how much effort it takes me to get out anywhere, I wonder why I am going to 42nd Street tomorrow (Monday)(fifth time), Follies on Tuesday and Evita on Wednesday. Do I need therapy?

The Liza Minnelli & Pet Shop Boys 'Losing My Mind' was probably the first Sondheim I was ever aware of as a kid, either that or 'Sooner or Later' from Dick Tracy. Not that I had the slightest awareness at the time.

Tonight I shall be at the Nash to see 'Follies'. In protest at the no-interval debacle I shall be taking in a large glass full of ice to rattle every time La Staunton comes on stage.
I've heard that although she is small she can be violent so I shall be going by my alias, Tarquin van der Schlampehausen.

Off to London on Friday via Brussels to shout at Eurostar and NMBS people about the recent nightmares with booking train tickets..
An American in Paris on Friday evening Adrian Mole on Saturday afternoon Follies on Saturday evening
Looks like there'll be a few of us at the same Follies on Saturday evening, so perhaps anyone wants to say hi? I'd say, meet for a drink, but it would mean watching others drink as I shall abstain before going in for 2 hrs-something without interval.

Being in Birmingham most theatres are on their summer closure, also no concerts on. Luckily next week we have Jane Eyre at Rep.
Only two theatre visits in last month - Miss Saigon - Birmingham Hippodrome and Brassed Off at Wolves Grand.
I've seen the current Stratford Plays I want to but they have new openings in next couple of weeks so may venture over there too.
Always seems to be too much on or nothing at all.

Cheating slightly as both were last-minute bookings, but just managed to fit in Mosquitoes at the NT and a preview of Talk Radio at the Old Red Lion. Not a moment too soon, either, as I'm about to head off for 10 days in the north-east and have already established that there's little chance of seeing any films or plays while I'm there, much as I'd love to visit some new venues.

This evening I shall be heading down the 'road' to the Royal Court Theatre. Apparently there's a scene where Catelyn Stark from 'Game of Thrones' tries to drunkenly seduce a member of the armed forces. We've all been there haven't we? Well, except I never starred in 'Game of Thrones'. Aside from that . . .

Double show day tomorrow.... final performance of Half a Sixpence in the evening, following Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. I know I'll enjoy Sixpence, its my 4th time, and second time this week. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof was booked on the basis I like the two leads, it feels like a play I should know haha and who doesn't like a good penis thrust at them on a Saturday afternoon!

I feel the very same withdrawal symptoms if I go too long without seeing a show! Now I've just seen three in quick succession after a month off, I've now got to prepare myself for another month of cold turkey until Young Frankenstein in October. The struggle is real!

Last Night of the Proms is always a signal that Summer is nearing it's end.
With Regional Theatre it just often seems that some weeks there may be 3 good shows in the area, other week's nothing, almost Sod's law.
Jane Eyre in Main House and The Whip Hand in the Door at B'ham Rep, I hope to see next week. Plus I'm booked up to see Private Lives at Malvern and have about 3 music concerts I would like to go to. So I've got a couple of days leave to try and fit everything in.
Talking of B'ham Rep I just noticed they have cast a black girl - Gloria Onitiri as Cruella de Vil in the Xmas production of 101 Dalmations. That is certainly interesting diverse casting and it will be interesting to see what the character looks like in costume. Lets just hope no political do gooder moans about having an evil character as a black person!
