Did a double show day today - it really is a fantastic adaptation and zips along at a great pace. It has all the humour, but also has the emotional heart with Rhonda and Muriel’s mother. The score is a highlight indeed - one of the strongest new scores of recent years, especially for an adaptation. The book could use just a little refinement but it’s as good as ready for a West End transfer. It wasn’t well sold tonight (matinee was busier) but I think this is more down to the Sydney theatre scene than anything else. I saw Natalie Abbott as Muriel for the matinee and Ashleigh Rubenack in the evening show. I have to think this maybe wasn’t planned, Abbott seemed to be holding back a bit vocally this afternoon so it’s understandable if this is why she went off tonight. Staging, set, costumes - all great. The production has been put together so well and is extremely high quality. Glad you enjoyed it Mark. It's been playing in Sydney for a few weeks now, plus it sold out for the first season last year so I think pretty much everyone who wanted to see it has now. Plus it's playing at the casino theatre which is a bit out of the way and doesn't get passing trade. Plenty of discount offers coming in for it - but at $55 it's still not cheap enough to tempt me to a repeat visit ( and I only work next door to the theatre!) |

Yes it’s a bit of a strange location!
I’ve seen numerous things during my layovers but mostly at the Capitol (Les Mis, Priscilla, My Fair Lady) or the now defunct theatre royal (Ghost) but the Lyric is certainly a bit out of the way.
I can’t stop thinking about it, it’s one of my all time favourite films so it had a lot to live up to and it really did.

Big hits normally seem to go straight to Broadway; King Kong or Doctor Zhivago and then tank, however I cannot see this doing the same and hope it go to the West End first. If it did what sort of theatre do you think will end up at?

If it did what sort of theatre do you think will end up at? Since seeing Ghost at the Piccadilly a few years back, my brain always heads there first when thinking about adaptations of iconic films. I just really hope it’s sooner rather than later! Desperate to see this. Is the soundtrack available online anywhere? |

The Piccadilly or Savoy or any of the mid-sized musical houses would be great for it. It should have a pretty good appeal - and will bring in a similar sort of crowd as shows like 9-5 and Legally Blonde etc. The film is iconic and will bring in the older crowd but the musical has updated things and has a contemporary score so will appeal to youngsters too.

This show should go directly to Broadway. It's amazing. I saw it recently in Sydney. Then I saw it again a few days later. Then I saw it again before boarding my plane. It should come to NY but don't know where it would fit best. Maybe Nederlander if they are part of producing packaging. Otherwise the Imperial would be good but ATP may be strong. It may end up at the Broadway should WWS run out of audience in January 2021. That would be the perfect theatre.
