Just announced this is getting a brief run in Melbourne before it's return to Sydney next year. Playing from March to June at Her Majesty's Theatre. No word on new cast as yet. (Maggie McKenna has moved on to US tour of Dear Evan Hansen.) yes

I wonder if the planned run in Toronto will still be happening.

This was meant to be playing a season in Toronto starting today, but there were issues and it has been postponed for a year. I thought Toronto a strange choice, but there you go. (Nothing against Toronto but wouldn't be the city that springs to mind when one says 'musicals'!) There's a return season in Sydney starting next June ie 2019, which is already booking. I have read that theatre availability is the reason this hasn't toured outside of Sydney. Meanwhile, you can purchase the OCR at the link. murielsweddingthemusical.com/Why no iTunes etc?

Natalie Abbott is the new Muriel! Here she is performing "The Bouquet" - the big "I want" song.

Thanks! A great insight, just wish we had a bit of show footage! Wonder if this would be allowed to open in London with Mamma Mia still running though, since Abba songs are used throughout.I

Finally some decent show footage in this new trailer!
Brisbane now added after the Melbourne/Sydney runs. Hopefully it takes a similar trajectory to Priscilla and get to London ASAP!

I'm seeing Muriel's Wedding in Sydney on July 6th. I got our tickets a year ago. Met up with Toni Collette at a private event in New York a few weeks ago and she said she loved the show and said it was an emotional rollercoaster for her but felt that it's Australia's most perfect musical. Toni moved back to Sydney in December. She said that LA was a perfect place to be in the center of the entertainment industry but she missed being home.

Is there room in the West End for another musical featuring some of the same Abba songs though?

Is there room in the West End for another musical featuring some of the same Abba songs though? There's not actually a lot of Abba songs used in Muriels Wedding. {Spoiler - click to view} There's one fantasy scene involving 'Abba' where they sing, and of course the talent show, but for the most of it is an original score by Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall.

I’m going to Sydney next month (for 36 hours) and I’m planning on seeing the matinee and evening shows. My most anticipated for quite some time!

Are there any whispers of this transferring anywhere? The documentary on Sky Arts last night was quite wonderful! Muriel’s Wedding is one of my favourite films and Kate Miller-Heidke is truly excellent. Would love to see this hit London.

It’s not much to go on, but I noticed the other week that someone asked Kate Miller-Heidke on Twitter about bringing it to the UK, to which she replied:
I’d love to see it again, so I live in hope...

Did a double show day today - it really is a fantastic adaptation and zips along at a great pace. It has all the humour, but also has the emotional heart with Rhonda and Muriel’s mother.
The score is a highlight indeed - one of the strongest new scores of recent years, especially for an adaptation. The book could use just a little refinement but it’s as good as ready for a West End transfer. It wasn’t well sold tonight (matinee was busier) but I think this is more down to the Sydney theatre scene than anything else.
I saw Natalie Abbott as Muriel for the matinee and Ashleigh Rubenack in the evening show. I have to think this maybe wasn’t planned, Abbott seemed to be holding back a bit vocally this afternoon so it’s understandable if this is why she went off tonight.
Staging, set, costumes - all great. The production has been put together so well and is extremely high quality.
