Thanks to all those members who have already given such sensible and well-judged comments on the Strictly Final. I agree with just about everything that has been said and I was particularly pleased to see that emicardiff went to the loo during Ed Sheeran's number. I know most of the world adores him but I really find him dull and lacking in personality, not to say musical talent. I wish I had his millions but that's about it. Anyway, it was a great relief that the Strictly final fully lived up to expectations and overall was entirely successful, dance-wise at least!

Probably my last post on this year's series of Strictly. Isn't it remarkable that, in 2017, the most watched programme on TV is a dance competition with a naff glitterball for a prize.?
Roll on autumn 2018.

Did anyone notice the Beeb managed to cheekily edit Ola Jordan out of the show's history with the Robbie Savage archive footage?

tonyloco haha I feel my loo break is the best use of a an Ed Sheeran song in a long time! Enjoyed the Christmas special- bit of added Strictly fluff. And nice to see 'Local boy' Colin Jackson swiveling those hips again! Brendan looked genuinely surprised to win too!

On the main series, they still never announced who was runner up and 3rd or 4th. The bookies were paying out for top woman, so I don't know how they sorted that out. Sports Personality votes were given out and poor Ryan must have had a sore finger for voting for anyone bar his "beloved" Alex.

Well this year's Pro-Dancer cull has started early...Brendan is out. I know he divides people but I've always liked him. Wonder if this is the start of an 'out with the old' year...

I won't miss him. He's had a lot longer then better dancers like Matt Cutler or Ian Waite so he's done very well really. He hasn't looked interested for a while now and his attitude has gotten a bit wearying after all this time.

(Though I guess getting him on It Takes Two is a nice trade-off). Perhaps this means Ginger Welsh Neil will get 'promoted' to a proper dancer this year. Here's hoping.

Hmmm just shows you that you have to keep your mouth shut at the BBC.

Perhaps he wanted equal pay... to Shirley!!! (There didn't seem much love between those two.)

Hmmm just shows you that you have to keep your mouth shut at the BBC. Except he's been like that since the start and they've let plenty of less difficult dancers go before him.

His comments made it more interesting. I liked him sticking up for himself.

I can understand him being upset about not getting a new contract, but his comments read like he basically assumed he would be renewed, which is rather self-entitled. I used to like him, but he ran out of spark years ago and has seemed to be completely bored the past few years. He's never been good with the less able contestants either. And yes please to Neil Jones getting a celeb partner!

I think, if you watch the video you see he's genuinely upset- regardless of whether it was 'time for him to go' or 'he deserves it' it's got to be a blow leaving something that's been a part of your life for so long when that's not your choice. Also I think that after being a part of it for so long yeah he probably did assume he'd be kept on- I think they all do until told otherwise!

They're all out of contract every year, so I think actually they probably all assume the opposite. Or at least they should. As I said, I can understand him being upset, but it was never guaranteed, so the BBC have done nothing wrong.

Oh I'm not remotely saying the BBC did anything wrong- the only bit I was contesting was that he was somehow being a bit of a dick about it, when to my mind he seemed genuinely upset. As I said in the original post, personally I like him and I'll miss having him on the show. But equally that doesn't mean it's not time he (and some others) moved on.

Hmmm just shows you that you have to keep your mouth shut at the BBC. You have to keep your mouth shut with any employer don’t you? People are, after all, being paid. Im more interested in the stories about the Susan Calman / Sandy Toksvig feud.

Part of me thinks he knew (or at least suspected) last year that he wouldn't be coming back - there were moments in interviews on ITT (along with a whole segment looking back over his time on the show) that felt very 'final'. I wouldn't be surprised if Karen Clifton doesn't come back either as I got the same vibe from her.

I never liked him from day 1. I look at faces and can tell instantly. No loss as far as I’m concerned.

Brendan is a great dancer but I don't think he is a good teacher. He's often asked less dance able celebs to do moves which are beyond them and had run-ins with the judges too. He has never done the Strictly tour, so he has his own shows outside of Strictly. He'll likely get decent job offers so won't be that much of a hit to him losing the Strictly gig. He'll probably end up in the Jungle or on Celeb Big Brother.
If Kevin and Karen have split, I could see one of them leaving. I'd think the public would want Kevin over Karen but Karen is very tight with Janette so that could factor into things.
I'd hope Neil Jones will replace Brendan, he deserves a run as a full dancer not just show dances. Oti's husband is also a pro dancer and has been around the show so could be an option.

Apparently Kevin and Karen's tour is still going ahead, so who knows! I'd be surprised if she comes back to Strictly, but I'd be surprised if Kevin left. It wouldn't surprise me if Janette either doesn't come back at all or just does pro numbers and It Takes Two. Neil should definitely get a celeb! Otis husband Marius is doing the Strictly tour with her at the minute so who knows whether that is an indication of anything! I'd like to see Luba Mushtuk, who dances in a lot of the pro dances and with Giovanni on his tour (are they a couple?) to join the show properly and get a chance with a celeb as well.

Piece in The Telegraph this morning makes it quite clear that Brendan cheeking Shirley is why he isn’t in next series. Seems a bit childish to me. Can’t they talk about these things?

It was clear that 2017 was Brendan's last series. He never worked out when to bite his lip and enough was enough. It was more than cheeking Shirley - and in many other professional spheres, that sort of treatment of someone in authority would almost certainly be sufficient to start disciplinary proceedings.
The drama should not be about the professionals spitting their dummies when they are critiqued.
The show will be a happier place without him. He can join the Jordans in making snide comments on Twitter.
