Just seen a few more posts from closer to the stage. Interestingly it looks like there are deliberate splits/cracks in the false proscenium as though it might move and join back together

This is the Leicester design that butchers the proscenium. The sole reason is because they won't employ two stagehands to remove the drapes that used to cover the gorgeous sculptures that used to adorn the sides.

I noticed there were considerably less drapes around the proscenium

Killian Donnelly has just tweeted, "The title track blasted out and the audience screamed the house down."

Original fan club member here, but the original proscenium won't have been removed for the sole reason of saving 2 stagehands. Granted they spent half the first act removing the drapes caught on the false prosc in the latter half of the shows run in London (slight exaggeration) but those stagehands (4) were still key figures in many other scenes/plots later in the show. One of my bug bears about the show was how untidy it appeared at times, the drapes getting caught during the overture was pretty frequent and needed a cleaner resolution, that didn't involve meters of fishing wire. The original false prosc was pretty restrictive in terms of allowing maintenance for the hired sound equipment and HMT's actual proscenium, so as brutalistic as this change may appear, it was pretty necessary to ensure that vital care of the 130yr old theatre.

Plot twist - what if its actually the horse under that chandelier cloth?
Would explain audience screaming the house down if a giant horse was being lifted up into the gods...

I noticed there were considerably less drapes around the proscenium A reminder of how it used to look: I was holding out hope for them to see sense about the proscenium; had they done, I'd have probably been relieved enough to book tickets...but cumulatively with all the other cuts, this is a bit of a dealbreaker for me unless someone here reveals there is something so superb that was never in the original that has now been introduced. I know other posters will mock me for saying it, but I really did agree with Hal Prince that it was the key to the show and it just looks bare and empty without it. It could have looked better had they not insisted on removing the black paint around the proscenium, because now it just looks way too bright without the Gothic gloom that set the mood. A sparkly big new chandelier that isn't used for very long isn't enough to make up for the above. But I suspect it will be enough to satisfy those who would have missed it; that was the biggest criticism I remember hearing from the public in the Connor tour.

To compare with the above, this is how it looks now... ...yeah.

I noticed there were considerably less drapes around the proscenium Looks like I might have been wrong about that and that they do reassemble after all. I hope so, though it still doesn't make up for the lost sculptures...but then pics I've seen show no reassembling. I'd love to hear for certain. I like the gilt edge to the stage, though.

They removed the candelabra! I thought that was something they wouldn't omit!

This is Her Majesty's new safety curtain. Fits more with the show i guess.. Is this the safety curtain? It looks like that has been painted full on black and this is the front 'curtain' I have so many things I'd like to say on the use of a painted cloth, but I'll restrain.

No candelabra? Honestly? Maybe they just weren't ready in time for reopening?

This is Her Majesty's new safety curtain. Fits more with the show i guess.. Fine for a safety curtain. The proscenium makes me feel ill. Not a lot of mask wearers in the audience, which is a bit alarming. Is it optional or is it the rule of the theatre to have it on?

No candelabra? Honestly? Maybe they just weren't ready in time for reopening? I did read on a Facebook fan group that someone passed HMT earliar and said they were still putting the show together. Someone even commented, saying they heard "frantic drilling" from inside. So maybe they ran out of time, or something caused a delay. Is this a preview performance, or is it an official 'reopening' night?

It looks so different with the boxes in use and not blacked out!

Judging by Steve10086's second post I really think those reacting to the 'no candelabra' post may want to calm down a little

It looks so different with the boxes in use and not blacked out! This was my concern from the planning submission. It all just looks like a bit of a pastel mess rather than the black box Hal Prince intended.
