So are you saying you'll never see the London production again because you won't like the lighting? Lighting design is as much of an art as set design, sound design, costume design, choreography- according to the humble opinions of Olivier/Tony Award judges- are you insinuating something about people whose future visits would indeed depend on the quality of changes in that aspect? Let me make it clearer for you. I'm saying that if they changed the set design, it wouldn't stop me going to see a show I loved. If they changed the sound design, it wouldn't stop me going to see a show I loved. If they changed the choreography, it would't stop me going to see a show I love. So if they change the lighting, no.... it's not going to stop me going to see a show I love. Because a performance is more than the sum of its parts.

I got what you meant the first time round- your initial question about never seeing the London production again because of not liking the lighting wasn't directed at me, I merely suggested a reason for understanding why some people might indeed choose to act that way, so you really didn't have to "make it clearer for me" or anyone else for that matter, I thank you very much- it's a free world, so, sure, nothing's going to stop you going to see a show you love, least of all me.

Came in here to post that but you beat me to it! Sad to see the theatre like that but reassuring that ALW is determined to bring back the original staging

I wonder what he meant by "rethink some of the scenery"? I hope I don't come off as sceptical or pessimistic, but I hope these "rethinks" won't be too major, like the Angel for example.

Look at him, strutting about the stage like he owns it. Oh, wait a minute...

Baz's article merely fans the flames with its ambiguity. In it, Cameron basically says that ALW was talking rubbish when he said that he's doing 'everything within his power' to ensure the return of the original production insofar as he's the co-producer and owner of the theatre. So he basically undoes all the self-promotion ALW has been doing via social media.
At the same time, Baz refers to a "new version" going to Her Majesty's Theatre, right after he talks about Cameron's claims that ALW loved the 2020 tour.
This only fuels the rumours that, as feared, in spite of what RUG has been claiming, they want to install the 2020 tour with its reduced sets (that proscenium looked very bare) into Her Majesty's Theatre. REALLY hope that's not the case and that we see a return of the full Angel, the full proscenium statues, and the full chandelier, with candelabra that rise from beneath the stage.

I quite like the idea of the gift vouchers. This may be a silly question, but does anyone know how this works? Does one £50 voucher go towards one seat, or can you put it towards as many tickets as you like when booking opens? By the same token, if you buy two, does that mean two seats or can you splurge the whole lot on one posh seat? Answers on a postcard please ........

After 2020 there will be two words producers will only use.
COST SAVINGS.
We will not get the original Phantom back.

The fact that ALW says that when Phantom comes back it will be Hal Prince's production "hopefully", does put me on edge a little. It's different to what he said over a month ago when he said that it would be Prince's production coming back "in it's entirety". I know I probably sound like a paranoid bozo at the moment, but now I'm not sure about what Phantom's future will be like.

I'll tell you what, Michael Crawford is looking very well for someone just three months away from his 79th birthday. Shame the undersea telegraph cable that runs from New Zealand isn't in such good nick. The fishes must have got to it!

LOL - here we go again! Fully expect ALW to Tweet about the #BrilliantOriginal* later.
Think it makes a bit more sense as to the tour being pulled though. Casting wise, my hunch is that the tour leads will go in. Feel a bit for the Her Majesty leads.
(*Edit - I guess perhaps we can conclude that ALW is happy that all things considered Leicester IS the brilliant original. Personally I do believe the angel, chandelier and end of act 1 Il Muto curtain will be sorted for London and I am inclined to agree that this passes as the original. It's all semantics. I DO trust that between them ALW and CM will ensure this is epic and IMO even better than before).
