There is far too much emphasis on look/design - taste seems almost secondary a lot of the time.

This is what happens when it moves to BBC 1. What would happen if they make the much-rumoured move to ITV???

Phone votes to eliminate contestants.

Phone votes to eliminate contestants. The BBC tried that on early series of the Great British Menu - it really didn't work as we don't get to taste!

Yes I remember that. It became a bit of a popularity contest too in some cases. It's always the way with phone votes.
I imagine they'd have themed bakes, such as Keith Lemon Drizzle cakes and Ant and Deccles cakes.

Money - Love Productions have been offered a very large sum (£18 million or some such) to take it over to ITV
Paul and Mary are not willing to move over - so that would put a spanner in the works. But ITV haven't had a successful food competition show - and they clearly want one)

It's not produced by the BBC, that's the problem. The contract with the production company runs out this year. I read last week that Mary and Paul had turned down a big money deal with ITV. Hopefully it means it'll stay on the BBC.
If it did leave the BBC, it wouldn't be on telly at all next year as the current contract involves a year's 'cooling off' period, if it changes broadcaster.

It would kill it.
Maybe it's time anyway. It's all got a little bit smug.

The head of ITV isn't interested apparently, The Voice moving happened partly due to ITV buying the company who owns the format. I would have thought if ITV was interested in any BBC shows it would be The Apprentice or Masterchef.
I assume whatever deal the BBC does for Bake Off will also include the spin-offs like Sewing Bee, Creme de la Creme, the main show is the juggernaut but the spin-offs do very good business

I really thought it would be Andrew's star baker week, sadly not. Maybe batter week will be his forte.

Masterchef could do with a refresh. I have only just discovered the Australian version which is so, so, so much better. You get a real sense of the cooks actually developing and learning from working with mentor chefs. And you have far better judges.
But Bake Off has to stay with the BBC - having watched both the US and Oz versions, we are still the best at it. Though the French version is also great (assuming your French is good enough!)

Masterchef Australia is very good but I think they tried doing that with the British version and it didn't work so they went back to the original format which itself was a revamped version of the old Masterchef.

How on earth do you burn raw dough? And is it just me or are we watching a 4th McGann brother? Seeing as there's already four McGann brothers (I think there might be a non-acting one as well? So five?), then it's probably just you.

So times they do I think but in this case they didn't. I couldn't even remember what the winner had done in first two rounds. Maybe just a quick clip of what he or she has baked at the end would help.

I went to watch it yesterday on my Virgin Media Tivo box and had to put in my pin number for parental control which is normally for programmes after the watershed. Is it because they keep talking about "soggy bottoms"?
