Just got my hands on the new Anyone Can Whistle recording, I believe it's on apple music too, and wow already Julia Mckenzie optioning up on Me and my Town im living!!

I can confirm it's on Apple music. Downloaded it a few weeks ago. It's great to hear as I had never heard that production before. Still an odd musical though.

JM and the big orchestra sound amazing on the recording. I've listened to it a lot since it came out and sadly it's my least favourite of the three. I find with all the TER recordings that something is generally lacking, they are mostly a studio recordings and sound very much like one.
Still it's wonderful to have a complete recording of that glorious score. I sound like a moaner I'm greatful for it, but...

I've recently assembled a HiFi in my work room using an old amplifier, a Blu-ray player operating as a CD player, and a Minidisc deck. I'm using it to work through all the old recordings that I haven't listened to in years. Last week was The Apple Tree, The Fantasticks and Honk! This week it was The Last Session, Lizzie Borden and the London production of Martin Guerre.

I tried listening to The Boy In The Dress. It sounds like it was spat out by a simulator. This is maybe one of those shows that only makes sense when you see it. Almost always the actual show is far superior to the soundtrack. I really enjoyed the show last year in Stratford. The show itself was pretty good. Not sensational, but thoroughly enjoyable. Definitely up to West End standards. (As a general rule) I have a problem with kids on stage (with the occasional exception); but that's just me. I caught a matinee and there were lots of kids in the audience when I saw it.

I always loved that sequence, although I have to say that when listening to it early in the morning with my neighbours asleep the other side of the wall the dynamic range of the prologue means I have to turn round to adjust the volume a couple of times a minute, otherwise it's three minutes of silence or the neighbours joining in with their own percussion on the wall at the end.

Such a shame this got cut from the WYP version. Maybe they felt they couldn't make it work with the smaller band? But on the OLC it sounds divine. So many great songs across both versions - do wish they could find a final version to make this show work. Rumoured revival for ages of course, no doubt firmly on the back burner now due to the rona.

I'm hugely grateful that they included every single piece of transitional music and the orchestra sounds gorgeous, but with a studio cast I often find there's just a little lack in... energy? Spontaneity, character choices? But it's one of my fave scores so to get everything from the prelude to the exit music I think is quite rare. Not since the H2$ revival has a show recorded every single interlude, that I can remember!

My Friday morning listening is Little Shop 1982 recording. I did start with A Little Night Music but decided I wanted something a bit more upbeat as it is a Friday!

I loved Martin Guerre and saw it in the West End several times and at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. The Original for me is the best . On of my favourite songs is All I Know.

And although I did enjoy the UK tour version, it really didn't compare to the original London production, in terms of orchestrations, staging and overall production. I recently discovered the 1998 Madrid cast recording, which was an amateur production based on the final London version (so includes 'The Solution' by Martin's uncle and Mme De Rols, rather than 'Sleeping on our Own'), and it's great to hear that version again. My only complaint is that the recording starts with 'Working on the Land', so doesn't include the 'Prologue'.

"A Little Night Music" from the NT with Dame Judi Dench. I saw the production twice when we were in London...and it was one of the finest...and the CD brings back many happy memories.

The youtube algorithm offered me a documentary from the early eighties of Leonard Bernstein conducting West Side Story with Jose Carreras and Kiri Te Kanawa. It was fascinating to see the man himself directing the orchestra and the cast. Of course both leads were decades too old for it but oh my, Jose Carreras singing as Tony was stunning. Kiri was ok but apart from being too old actually sounded too old too, or maybe too ‘womanly’ for Maria. Then I went and listened to it again on Spotify. The album sold massively at the time apparently.

I’m also loving Beetlejuice all over again.
I cannot put my finger on why, but the recording is so much better than the experience of watching the show. I don’t know why it was so underwhelming when the score is great.

The picture sounds familiar - I think I have a copy of it lurking around somewhere Ive most definitely got a CD copy of it (one of the first I bought), bought in the mid 80s immediately after the TV broadcast about it (Omnibus possibly??). Some of the best brass playing I've ever heard.
