I'm surprised how well it's sold, only the really expensive tickets are left. I would say that's 99% down to people wanting to see SJP.

I’d put her down as a tv star rather than a great actor. So is that it? She was in SATC so people want to see her in this? Do they realise it’s a play and she’s not playing Carrie Bradshaw? I see Candace Bushnell is on some sort of U.K. one woman tour at the moment. God knows what that involves.

I'm surprised how people keep underestimating SJPs appeal. She was the star of a iconic cultural phenomenon that portrayed women in a whole new light, and for generations its a verh important show. There is also a large gay following (the show gave representation that wasnt common back then). The series has now been brought back and is a big success second time round. She also has 9.7million followers on Instagram alone.
It's like if you put Jennifer Aniston on stage in London for the first time.
And of course people realise its not the character on stage, it's no different to any other actor known for an iconic role.

Indeed. I’m sure a lot of people 40 and under will know her from Hocus Pocus too.

Both are well known actors but I agree SJP being in SATC will be the show's big selling point.

I'm surprised they bother to have a standby for Karen, surely if they go ahead without SJP and no one is offered a refund they will lynch the poor box office staff

This is quite a major achievement for Caroline, especially as a mainly musical theatre actress. Musical theatre is often looked down on for straight play roles. Good for her

Don’t underestimate Broderick
He has starred in all 3 of the highest grossing Broadway play revivals of all time
Pretty impressive!

They’ve also announced details of the lottery for this - ten seats in the front row of the stalls (BB has now been added) available for each performance, via the lottery for £40. The remainder of that row is now on sale on ATG, for £200 😱

I agree nice little role for Caroline, gets paid will hopefully not have to perform much and can give her singing vocals a break.

I adore Caroline Sheen and she’s a great talent- but this has to be the most thankless job in the west end.
I’d imagine nearly everyone has booked this to see SJP and seeing an understudy will not be acceptable at all. Certainly not at these prices. I wouldn’t want to be dealing with people when/if SJP goes off.

On Broadway, they cancelled performances when SJP got Covid, they weirdly didn't cancel when Matthew Broderick tested positive.

Isn't there something about West End shows needing to have understudies as a requirement by some sort of official theatre-governing body? Or at the very least for insurance purposes?
Naturally, understudying a "star" name is a thankless job and she'll probably never go on, but it'll be a nice, well-paid gig in a relatively short run. Not always easy to come by!

Indeed. I’m sure a lot of people 40 and under will know her from Hocus Pocus too. That too, although I think the 40 age group is a bit wrong. Maybe 50 and under. I'm over 40 and hocus pocus has nostalgia for me and many of my friends. Plus The Family Stone has a bit of a cult Christmas following

I respect that she been acting since a little girl bur personally, I find her overrated. I'd be going for Matthew Broderick (he's Simba and Ferris Beuller) and because it's a Neil Simon play.

Lottery is now open here – plazasuiteuk.com/lottery/Pleasantly surprised it's £20 for front row tickets, not £40 per ticket which I assumed was the case when they announced it.
