We fall for it every time don’t we?

Wow this makes the prices we had on Broadway seem affordable.

Is the appeal of this the play, or the cast? I only vaguely recall the film version and I was just looking at the wiki for the play and it doesn’t seem to have a particularly auspicious history.

I don't recall much of a frenzy for The Starry Messenger a few years ago.

What do we seasoned theatregoers do? Many of us have seen everything over the years as part of our cultural DNA but now at 60 years I either have to stump up ridiculous amounts of money (£200) for a decent-ish seat for what might be an average production of a dated play (despite the NY reviews - Simon has never travelled well here) as I can't do dress or upper circle or forego the entire experience which I am more and more inclined to do. Sad reflection of our times I think. It's down to producers' greed I fear and the gullible public buying into it.

Save your money. This play was so incredibly boring and dated in New York.

I don't recall much of a frenzy for The Starry Messenger a few years ago. SJP wasn't in that, it's her name doing the heavy lifting here

Broderick on his own rarely is nowadays. But Broderick + Sarah Jessica Parker makes this a FMO type of event for some fans.

I don't understand the hype for this. Pass!

I think people are underestimating SJP appeal. The people who watched sex in the city (and now just like that) are the age now that can afford theatre. And there are a lot of them. She speaks to a certain generation and they love her.

I don't recall much of a frenzy for The Starry Messenger a few years ago. No, it was an enjoyable, interesting play and I’m glad I saw it. But it was easy to get decent seats in TodayTix’s rush, and in fact I got a central front stalls seat for £35 in an offer Delfont Mackintosh ran to get bums on seats. So the Plaza Suite hype is definitely SJP’s doing!

That'll be why some of the seats are such crazy prices - they've got to cover the cost of a suite at the Savoy for 2.5 months somehow! At least they'll be saving on a fleet of black Mercedes to get them to and from the venue :-) I would have thought they’d go for somewhere less ostentatious, away from the theatre and a house. Now desperate to know their accommodation details. Staying in a hotel for months whilst working is so depressing, even if it’s the Savoy. I agree, a house somewhere would have more appeal to my mind. Staying in a suite at the Savoy would also be quite a case of life imitating art!

I've booked for this even though I'm not a play person. Always wanted to see Matthew Broderick on stage, still annoyed about not going to see The Producers. Hope it's funny.

I am someone who generally finds Broderick onstage to be basically sleepwalking through anything he does and have a hard time musteringbup any excitement for him but I was very surprised with him in “Plaza Suite”. He had great stage presence and was extremely funny, matching SJP very well.

I'm not a huge fan of either the stars or the play. I've met Matthew, he's nice enough in a casual setting, and I enjoyed seeing him in How to Succeed... But I dislike Plaza Suite intensely. I think the best production of a Neil Simon play that I've seen was Michael Rudman's NT production of Brighton Beach Memoirs with Frances de la Tour. I think Simon's memory plays are his best work.

I'm surprised how well it's sold, only the really expensive tickets are left.

I'm surprised how well it's sold, only the really expensive tickets are left. Of which there are very many. I have bought a ticket for this but now sort of wish I hadn't. I had FOMO and jumped the gun but to be honest, I'm not madly excited about it and there are other things I'd prefer to see in the slot. My own fault for impulse booking!

Only mildly interested in it, will probably be sold out before I get chance to see it. I know most will be going for SJP, but I thought Matthew Broderick was hilarious when he showed up in the last series of Only Murders in the Building.
