There are definitely gunshots. I put two and two together and assumed the gun in the second half opener was a clue, but perhaps there are no bullets and Joe is actually mauled by a rampant chimp.

There is no gun and no gunshots. are you sure...? I mean at that moment specifically. There’s a gun in the start of act 2 camera sequence in the dressing room and I remember hearing gun shots before Joe’s death during the “chase” on stage but the death was sounds of Norma eating or biting and flashing lights and Joe screaming

So the chances of this extending are slim?

In the same place with the same cast…no. Elsewhere with Claire Sweeney, quite possibly.

Isn't the gun in the film a bit of a joke? Like when there's a gun early in a Chekhov play? The deliberate pan to the gun definitely got a laugh when I saw it.

Who could we imagine feasibly donning the "slip dress" (as opposed to turban) in any possible extension?!

Tricky one as so much of this revolves around NS still being absolutely smokin’ hot, but forgotten by her audience. Who else has the world moved on from whilst they have still been in their prime?

I guess based on the age reference point, we are looking at someone who was at their peak in the 90's or 00's.
I would prefer if it Norma is reverted back to 50, not 40, to be honest. (perhaps Mr Lloyd is flexible on this, depending on who is playing the lead....)

Debbie Gibson it is then. 😬

Beverley Knight could bring the offstage meta narrative. She's not overlooked, but her music doesn't really trouble the charts.
And she's 50!
Perhaps for these former bedraggled old cats this is the 'new life' beginning - which somehow makes Jamie Lloyd Old Deuteronomy, and Sunset Boulevard is what happens beyond the Heaviside Layer.

Can't they just work their way through the Pussycat Dolls I’m not sure that the two ropey strippers have the vocal chops, and the two blondes will be halfway through whatever reality show they’re filming this week? Has Melody finished The Bodyguard yet?

This is a really tricky one as Rachel Tucker put in a performance that was perfection and yet (for me) didn’t have the same impact as Nicole! You need someone IMHO with the X Factor rather than a (highly capable) MT star. Scherzinger is pretty unique though as how many pop performers/people who haven’t done that much MT have a voice like THAT?! Having said all this I hope there are people as I’d love nothing more than a run of icons like we had in the 90’s. But think you need to think outside the box.

I love Bev to bits and would LOVE to hear her sing this.
But she’s so absolutely lovely and down to earth.
The “meta” aspect of Nicole being so fabulously bonkers in real life certainly adds something for me.

I think Beverley might be more suited to a more traditional production. But I hope it happens one day.

Bev can't really act though...
Phenomenal voice, would love a concert, but she's not an actress...

Bev can't really act though... Phenomenal voice, would love a concert, but she's not an actress... Maybe that's the exciting bit if she were cast - that she absolutely shows that she can. Then we've got the reflexive 'I'm going to show them' quality that this version of the show benefits from. Jamie Lloyd might be up her street as the rock'n'roll guy to bring it out of her. btw another British soul diva, Alexandra Burke often gets slated here (maybe fairly) for her stage acting; but in the film 'Pretty Red Dress' she is phenomenal, and very daring with some racially tinged sex stuff you'd think her pop persona would shy away from. Good on her for bravery. But maybe screen acting is her thing not stage, or she's just been in very two dimensional stage pieces. Too young even for Lloyd's sunset I think.

Absolutely - this is quite key to the alchemy of why it is working so well, and I guess why Jamie Lloyd specifically wanted her.
I considered Lea Salonga too, but I think she's too nice, and not glamorous anymore (was she ever, really?)

You'd hope that, after Bodyguard, Memphis, Cats, Drifters Girl, Sister Act AND Sylvia, she'd have already shown she could act and wouldn't need something like Sunset to 'show she absolutely can' Also re: Burke - plenty of people have done the roles she's done and made things out of (what on the surface may seem) pretty light books (Patina Miller & Cynthia Erivo in Sister Act, Heather Headley in the Bodyguard etc) so saying she's not had great material there isn't really accurate (and I thought Pretty Red Dress was pretty awful but that's for another day!)

Finally fot to see Sunset on Thursday matinee. It really is a great and unique theatrical experience, I loved what Jamie Lloyd did with this show. {Spoiler - click to view}To be honest, I was quite disappointed with this version of the song 'Sunset Boulevard,' which happens to be one of my all-time favorite songs. While I appreciate the innovative concept of live streaming from outside the theatre, it somehow diminished the song's impact for me, I go to the theatre to witness actors performing live on stage, not to watch them on a screen. Tom Francis was truly exceptional. Having previously seen his performance in '& Juliet,' I was eagerly anticipating how he'd handle this different role. And boy, did he deliver! His portrayal was fabulous. Nicole, on the other hand, has an amazing voice. Her renditions of 'As If We Never Said Goodbye' and 'With One Look' were absolutely breathtaking. Each note and word was executed to perfection. However, personally, I'm not a big fan of her acting. Let me clarify - she performs very well, and most of the audience seems quite pleased with it. But for me, I'd prefer a more intimate and less condescending portrayal of Norma. BTW the show's duration is significantly longer than advertised on the website (stated as 2 hours, including a 15-minute interval). In reality, it runs for about 2.5 hours.
