How does the same production of a show returning to its original venue (Groundhog Day) and a West End transfer of the same production (Hadestown) equal a revival nomination?!

Wow - some not entirely unexpected nominations across all categories, and just shows how lucky we are to have such top-notch theatre in the UK.

How does the same production of a show returning to its original venue (Groundhog Day) and a West End transfer of the same production (Hadestown) equal a revival nomination?! As much as I love Groundhog - I’m quite shocked that was eligible again! How’s Hadestown 2:0 even eligible …. ?!?! Op Mincemeat best actress and supporting in a musical - I feel they’re all ensemble led?! But so happy for them.

Delighted to see Haydn Gwynne get her nomination for When Winston Went to War with the Wireless.

La Cage did get costume design. I have a bad feeling that it's going to be a Sunset sweep in the acting categories, even though both the male awards should go to other people

Wasn’t there talk of “La Cage” still transferring? If so, I wonder if this puts an end to that.

And Charlie Stemp should win in lead. I'm really disappointed for Kyle Freeman who should've been nominated for A Strange Loop. ETA: Add me to the list of people disappointed for La Cage.

But I agree, he should be the one winning, as should Stemp. For me, you could replace Francis with at least a few others off the top of my head, and not lose much, if it all. That cannot be done with Stemp.

Ridiculous/laughable that the orchestrator and MD of Operation Mincemeat get a nomination, but there's no category in which to give a nomination to the people who actually wrote the show's very clever score.
But then, the 'musical achievement' category is always completely loopy, because the Oliviers are magnificently clueless when it comes to dealing with original music. At least this year the four nominees in that category are all nominated for doing more or less the same job - but it's pathetic that there's no category in which the Oliviers nominate composers this year.

Can we do a vote system on here for the noms?

The nomination for best new musical specifically name checks all four members of Spit Lip for music, lyrics and book - they are nominated for their creative work as well as the acting noms three of them have.

And there should be. There is no category in which the Oliviers recognise original music.

Can we do a vote system on here for the noms? Too many categories with too many nominees to make that viable Im afraid.

Oh I don’t disagree I’d much prefer there to be a specific original score/best composer category. But currently the Oliviers are intending the best new musical category to recognise the creatives, and the OM team are specifically nominated for that.

currently the Oliviers are intending the best new musical category to recognise the creatives, As I said, the Oliviers are magnificently clueless about music. It's insane that a set or lighting designer can get a nomination for their individual creative contribution to a new musical, but the composer cannot.

Thrilled for Charlie Stemp, I really hope he gets it but shame Crazy For You didn't get nominated for revival. And didn't Hadestown only open 10 minutes ago?

There seems to be an anti-musical bias. Even in the performer categories, plays get 5 nomination slots and musicals get 4. What’s that about?

I really hoped Daniel Rigby would get a nomination as that performance was one of my favourites of recent memory but that category is very strong. I also feel Ulster American should have had a few nominations as it was eligible and the Olivier's usually seem to be very favourable to famous faces.
