Strange to just get one show announced today from the NT. Usually a slate from them and especially when at least two other shows (Antigone and Coriolanus) have been confirmed. Agree Dave. I really want to see Corialanus ( one of my A level texts so have a strange fondness for it despite it being a tricky play). Whenever I see this play named I always think of the line in Brush up your Shakespeare "If she says your behavior is heinous kick her right in the “Coriolanus.”

I'm thinking the holdup with the National announcing the rest of the season has to do with contractual negotiations with actor/directors and possibly budget issues. There is a hole in the Olivier schedule from mid August until late November, I'm assuming that's where Coriolanus will go. The Lyttelton is free after mid September, I'm not sure if they will do Antigone and then War Horse or vice versa but we know that will most likely be the case. There is a hole in the Dorfman schedule for the month of June and then there's nothing scheduled in there after mid September so I'm looking forward to seeing at least two or three more shows announced for that space before the end of the year.

This is also Rufus Norris’ last season, so I imagine they’re trying to tie up every slot into mid-2025 and announce them in one go as his last offering. Probably in their annual press conference? They’ve got Coriolanus, Antigone and Earnest to fit in this year. Plus the Dorfman...

Wasn't the last announcement of the 2023-2024 season in mid-June? probably should expect a proper formal announcement in a month or so.

It is depressing when theatres have to constantly rely on stuff like Heathers and 2:22 for a filler. Nothing from Bath, Chichester or other regions? In terms of costs and marketing, it’s not worth it to transfer anything for is a fairly short run. It’s either that or theatres are dark and no one wants dark theatres

It’s either that or theatres are dark and no one wants dark theatres It would be lovely if the theatre industry had the capacity to surprise us in such an unexpected way like the music industry does (I'm riding high on my Swiftie-cloud today)... Following all the rave reviews last night, we suddenly discover that the RSC 'Love's Labours Lost' is going to the Gielgud for 10 weeks, straight from Stratford. We'd all fall off our perches in surprise!

The Hills of California finishes in Pinter on 15 June. Macbeth starts 01 October. What goes in there in-between?

Wonder what will take the Gielgud between September and November? I'll cry if that crock of sh*te 2:22 goes back there a third time.

Heathers. It could be another revue; I've heard no rumours. I remember walking by in the evening a few days ago... I couldn't imagine it dark for three whole months.
I'd expect the Gielgud to probably start preparing for Oliver right as November ends, so something touring? Time to snoop around for gaps in touring schedules

Heathers. Probably, and starring Charlie Dimmock. Wouldn't surprise me after today's announcement.

So that gap at the Gillian Lynne is between September and February. Enough time for a decent run of something. Curious what it might be.

Just said real quick in the Totoro thread that I'd love to still see the Witches do a brief Halloween/Autumn stint. I'm really gutted I missed it due to illness before.
From all I've seen, I think it could fit really well in that theatre, coming from the National.

That's not a bad idea. I think the idea was that The Witches was always meant to transfer at some point. I mean, walking into the Olivier and looking at that set you knew instantly it had been designed to transfer into a West End house.

I’ve been saying this for months, it’d work perfectly there and it would really fit well being open for Halloween and also Christmas as it thrived during the Christmas season at The National last year, giving it that extra bit of time will allow everyone to see it who missed out but will also fill the gap in the market of a children’s show that’ll be missing with Frozen’s departure in September. It would be a really good move from the Gillian Lynne.

The Little Mermaid is going to Drury Lane in November
That would be the Drury Lane in Illinois I think!

Hahaha!
I have a naive hope it'd be a big non-Disney show, but I don't know what could fill the space for that window of time to sell it out.
Am I misremembering but has Elf alternated with another show in the same venue before?

In another thread, it's been rumoured it's Great Comet. That conflicts with this reply though seemingly...

Would Starter For Ten work here? Or it’s been rumoured that it could be Ride from Charing Cross?

I tend to skimread his posts
