Where is better area to sit in the theatre? Stalls or Dress? Looking at tickets in either Row M of Stalls or Row G in Dress.

Seems like a pretty trivial detail to require a spoiler tag. It’s not the size of the detail - or in fact your opinion on that - that matters It’s the overarching principle of it and certain people letting their flooding of gushing opinions on certain shows on here ruin it for others

PLEASE PUT SPOILERS IN SPOILER QUOTES!! Is that really a spoiler..? Did we know there was a section of video with Max and rain flecked windscreen before we go to see it? NO Will we be expecting it when we go to see it now? YES. YES WE WILL So of course it’s a spoiler! And this thread is full of them. It’s not hard to learn to put things in tags so please show respect for fellow theatre makers If spoilers aren’t a problem for people then I’m more than happy to go on other threads and spill all the details about shows

Forgot to mention when I saw this on Tuesday, there appears to be a new section of video with Max in a car with a rain flecked windscreen - has this always been in and I've just missed it before, or has anybody else noticed this? PLEASE PUT SPOILERS IN SPOILER QUOTES!!

I’d like to say that perhaps rave reviews from the press after opening night will help, but they didn’t seem to do a lot for Crazy For You despite being packed with superlatives. If shows like these two can’t put bums on seats… The key here is ticket price. Tickets are selling very well considering the inflated prices. When they adjust prices down dynamically closer to performance, prices are the typical west end premium price and then they sell out quickly. More people are splurging in at the £100-£145 level and when when prices drop to £80 the house fills. Considering Lloyd's commitment to access for less affluent people, the price strategy seems to have worked well so far. That’s right. Still not selling well then (irrespective of the factors) And completely missing the opportunity to bring in new audiences who might not be able to afford the theatre and see it as elitist!

I have to be honest, as much as I like stage-to-screen recordings, I am not sure that this one would transfer well. Reason being is that the scale of the minimal set, giant screen, the big close-ups and zooms would probably not work in a cinematic form. The reason this production works (for me) is due to the switches between stage and screen - literally, the close-ups, the final zoom in to Norma at the end, the use of bright white screen with silhouetted actors on stage, the side-on camera shots of actors playing out to the audience and vice versa, the chorus aspect, the linear staging, the forced perspective/tunnel effect created by the rear stage lighting, the use of smoke and light and the way it envelopes people, the fourth dimension element of roving camera operators, the wall of sound that has been created through the sound design. All of these elements (and many more) are what makes this an astonishing piece of theatre - the director has left gaps that are subsequently filled by the audience interpretation and imagination. To try and switch this to a cinematic form could work, I guess (with the right people), but I think a lot would be lost if it did. It would feel quite Hitchcockian. Worked perfectly well for Network and All About Eve. Same as being there. In fact I think it gained more in the filmed screenings. and please put a list of spoilers in spoiler tags!

I hated Play Wrong and every other Mischief show I have seen bits of. I think OM is in a different (better) league to all of those and there is no comparison imo

The big issue is that there is little new here. It might be slightly new for a musical but it’s the same stuff seen in any Jamie Lloyd or Ivo van Hove productions. It worked in Network. It didn’t work in All About Eve. And others. Please please stop talking about this as original. It’s ALW accepting that this is a modern take when it’s just a take not understanding the material and trying to make something out of the material that’s not there. Just write something new rather than trying to crowbar an old flawed work into a new mould. It’s not modern. It’s not new. It’s not edgy. It’s not revelatory. It’s just desperate and horribly out of touch. I hate hate hate museum theatre but I also hate desperate attempts to change things for change’s sake when the material is not understood and it becomes about the ego of the director and lead actress. It’s a pretty terrible show musically and it absolutely doesn’t need a version which smacks of ego and commercialisation when they had to chance to do something interesting and not like a student production in Edinburgh which threw every student like idea at it.

Lea salonga does loving you and practically stops the show with her stunning voice. Gavin Lee did could I leave you? Felt authentically gay. Authentically gay? Gavin Lee’s not gay

Danny Lee Wynter is deluded. This will not end up being adapted for television. Bad behaviour shouldn’t be rewarded either imo

It didn’t have enough that was different or interesting enough to say in a 2 hour play. Should be a boring 7 part TV.

phew glad to see a few other people not thinking this was the bee's knees. I was very underwhelmed at the interval given all the praise I had seen on here, but I did enjoy act 2 a lot more than act 1. I still left the show thinking it was fine (not amazing or awful, just fine). A fair few empty seats after the interval tonight

Will write more later but generally I will say that I don’t think this is worth the gushing praise. Lots of heart and a committed cast and nice staging. Funny in places (mainly Agnes). Great to see broad representation on stage. Shoddy script, terrible lyrics, too many earnest overemoting and glib fun songs, naff choreography, weirdly offensive and patronising about disability in focussing on how everybody around Henry was feeling but little about his feelings and struggles in comparison (and not even showing him with his brush in his mouth). Felt like a touring production of Our House performed by NYMT. What a shame

I am hearing rumours of a Broadway actress playing Ursula this time around. Has anyone else heard the same? I want to see it and some good casting may convince me to buy! Yes, I heard those rumours too. I heard it's a combination of Bernadette Peters doing it when she's not on for Old Friends, Idina Menzel for Tuesday night and Thursday matinees and Julie Andrews for weekends. I think the rumour must be true if lots of people are hearing the same.

I haven´t been going to the theatre regularly for as many years as most of you. But I do keep every PDF and physical ticket I´ve bought since 2019, and it´s the perfect way to see how prices change. Just some examples: the seat I paid £42 for Wicked, is now £63. Paid £42 for Mamma Mia. Same seat is now £53. The seat I got last winter for £23 at Lion King is now £33 (the cheapest seat, by the way). The horrible seat I had at Frozen for £20, is now £30. And don´t get me started on Les Mis. All of them full price, booked direct. Screaming into the abyss? Or maybe just facts? Ticket prices ARE rising. Theatres are mostly not selling out. Regular people see those prices and decide not to go. Not huge jumps in prices then. But more in keeping with increased costs across the board then. Which is understandable

It's easy to find recordings of the real Lord Reith for comparison. The wandering is there in the original too (between Scots, upper class Scots, and his beloved BBC English), as is a degree of word chewing. I was there this afternoon and it also wandered to Ireland (both Northern and Southern), Jamaica, Wales, America, Norway and the land of Garble.

I think that’s the fault of the piece though? I disagree, as this is the first time I was bored in Assassins. For me the review structure works brilliantly as what is presented is so derranged and interesting. Revue or review?

Wow this was utterly dreadful. Little to recommend it in any areas tbh. It felt like the worst amateur show you might have seen….and then keep going The Menier feels quite soul-less now too

My feeling is that there is a stronger tighter 90 mins musical in there, especially if they lose a lot of unnecessary songs (which may make the ones that stay sound less samey) and scenes that don’t move the action forward.
