Note that this is all based on a dress rehearsal not a proper 'official' performance.
I didn't rate the first act but i really enjoyed the second act. That's when it clicked for me because at that point it become more a concert with just smaller inserts of dialogue and scene setting and it zipped along. For me the first act and how that was done just didn't really land and seemed a bit too slow and disjointed and it lacked something. 2nd act is where it's at. I mean it all does seem a bit self indulgent but i guess that's what you get with this type of show.
I don't wish to really rate performances because given that it was only a dress run you don't know how much individual cast members were really giving and if it was them at their best so it's unfair. But as i said above, the Emelio is literally Zayn from One Direction. Looks and voice. Well not literally, obviously.
The set was a big disappointment. Basically a back curtain and some sliding panels that had various projections on. Then like a concert stage coming on and off for the band and performance scenes. I don't know if that is the same as other productions of the show.
The band, music, lighting and sound are excellent.
I did like it in the end.
Gloria was there.

In the dress rehearsal now. The main thing I notice is the guy playing Emelio looks and sounds almost exactly like Zayn from One Direction. It's like he's doing an impression.

You can't help but do it and then when something sounds different to her version you are instantly a bit unsure but you definitely have to try and separate her take on the role and that production to what we will be getting here. I really do think both T'shan and the production will be great.

Video of some of the cast BTS at the shoot and clips of them singing. I'd probably just say by the clip that T'shan maybe needs to work on I'm Here a little bit but they have a full rehearsal process to go so i'm sure she will. I'm excited. Was that Alex Parker playing the keyboard? Yes he's the musical director.

Watched this earlier. Thought she was pretty impressive but lacked a little control but presumably she'll tighten it up in rehearsals. I thought similar. She has fantastic power to her voice but probably needs to just tighten up those few runs and stuff up, which she has plenty of time to do.

Intrigued to know what part of the cheesy pop performed reminded you of Hamilton? Was it because there were people on stage, like in Hamilton? Being vaguely historical, like in Hamilton? They were singing, like in Hamilton? They had heads....bad example... Cheesy pop is an understatement. It's total trash. As I say, I'm not a fan of the show. For the record, wasn't actually any of those things. In fact, I've seen most of those things you listed in other shows. Might just be me. From 1:52 of Six. Utilises a very similar pattern to Track 01 of Hamilton. An accompaniment on beat 1 of every bar followed by rhythm on beat 3. Also lots of cross-beats over bars in both. Well the composer had never seen or listened to Hamilton at the time of writing so i'm afraid it's a coincidence.

The guest performers for next week's BGT semi finals have been confirmed and include some performances from some West End shows.
We already know that the cast (well Sheridan and Jason) of Joseph will perform. Joining them will be the cast of Six performing Ex Wives and the cast of On Your Feet (along with Gloria herself) with a medley.
Great promo for them all on what is one of the highest rated/most talked about shows of the year.

Congratulations to The Color Purple at Curve Leicester & Birmingham Hippodrome for winning this poll.
Well done to Mame at Hope Mill for coming a very close runner up and there was a three way tie for 3rd with Guys & Dolls at Sheffield Crucible, Assassins at Nottingham Playhouse and West Side Story at Curve Leicester.

It's not uncommon for filmed performances though. It happened also with the Newsies tour on America.
It's a bit different being replaced for 3 or 4 shows by the original cast for filming against being replaced for 10 weeks randomly by a celeb.

I think the online theatre fandom needs to just take a moment, have a chocolate hob nob and settle down.

This was mentioned on here several months ago. Even down to the Manchester run first. Whoever it was, well done. I have a feeling it may have been our resident Mystic Meg, Mystic Barnaby, but could be wrong. Credit where it's due to firefingers here. Love that Manchester is becoming the Tryout spot for West end. The UK's Boston. Oh that's right! Well done firefingers. Get all the goss here, we do.

There was but that came from me lol! Only because, funnily enough Lucie Jones.....performed a song from the film at a Curve season launch as a hint to a new 80's musical they were working on so naturally my mind went there......but it ended up being An Officer and a Gentlemen...and the song she sang never actually appeared in the show...so that was a weird affair.

Lucie had many friends and her fam in last night, I was sat in front of a group of them. Seems like she was able to privately tell people but not publicly which in all fairness isn’t too dissimilar to many understudies these days (I know Lucie isn’t technically an understudy but you get my point). Can you tell us a little about her performance? How was she different to Kat?

I did see the curtain call on twitter and i think that she could be emotional for several reasons. One, is that she has actually just made her leading lady West End debut. She's a well known musical theatre name so it's easy to forget that. Also i feel like we don't know the full story with regards to her history withj Waitress prior to this. It's been speculated she was lined up for Broadway, hence that promo picture, but she was pulled. If that happened but she finally made it on stage playing the role, that would be a big moment and relief for her. Who knows if that is true though. Or else it's just normal first performance emotion and nothing like the above at all. Many performers have that and it's not abnormal.

Massively intrigued about what's going on here. I work on the Strand - Tempted to see if there's any cheap seats available when I leave for the day. We expect full running commentary if you go 😉😁 Well it during the show obvs 😆

Are they still going to wait until next week to announce Lucie Jones as Jenna even after she has literally been on a played the part?
The producers and management of this show are weird. Like, really weird.

The reason it's gone to Hippodrome is because they are co producing it with Curve Leicester. It's their first steps into producing shows.
Anyone thinking of going and can make Leicester, i posted above Curve are offering £10 tickets for under 26's, if that applies to anyone. I don't believe that applies to Birmingham, just Curve.

I don't have a problem necessarily with her taking on the role itself, the problem for me is if they just randomly decided to replace Laura with her. It's not Ashley's fault so nothing against her but taking Laura out the show and replacing her with a 'celeb', or actually anyone, after just a few months, when she's been doing a perfectly good job, is really poor.

I have been a bit under the whole issue with Waitress, which i know people have many, and not been so bothered but i have to say if this is true that Ashley Roberts is replacing Laura Baldwin, that's really the pits. What has Laura done to deserve being replaced like that after only a few months? It doesn't seem fair. I'm really miffed if true.
