Looks like I'm destined not to see this - Bradford next week seems to have also been cancelled. No explanations anywhere, it's still listed on the tour dates on the production website (as are Darlington and Sunderland) but no sign of it on the theatre website?? At the very least they should explain it's been cancelled, if that is the case.
Yes, it turned out we saw the last show without being aware of it. The Hoff did a speech at the end and only then did we realise it was the last night. We were sure there was at least one more tour stop so this confused us slightly at the time. Makes sense now.
Last night a DJ saved my life in Wimbledon last night was every serious theatre goers worst nightmare. Taking photos and filming was encouraged as was singing along. There even was a warm up guy pre show making sure people were "in the mood". I would have hated it had I expected to see a proper musical. But since this was exactly what I thought it would be (hilariously bad and because of that ridiculously entertaining) I had the best evening. First time ever I even took part in all the bad behaviour that always gets on my nerves at other shows.
Saw this today and loved it. Ben Whybrow was brilliant. Very impressive. It must be exhausting to play this role several times a week. It's just 65 minutes but that hour is intense.
So, I watched this tonight and I can honestly say it was the most ridiculous show I have seen in my life. Complete trash and hilarious - and everyone on stage was well aware of that. Highlight has to be the Hoff singing the Baywatch theme song.
The audience went mad. Definitely not for someone expecting a proper musical. There was a warm up guy pre show and filming, taking photos and singing along was encouraged.
My friends and I had a blast. A tenner well spent.
That's what I thought too. It must be cheap enough to run. I'm happy about the extension. My favourite London show right now. Looking forward to more visits.
I saw bits of this at the St. James Theatre in (I think) 2014 with Norman Bowman. Really liked it. I won't make it to the Vaults this week but I can imagine Jamie Muscato is very good in this show.
All I did was ask if they had any day seats or similar available and added that I was looking for just a single ticket. They said they didn't do day seats then proceeded to tell me what they could for me. I ended up with a front stalls seat for £30.
I'm not sure asking for a specific seat will work though.
Slim I'd say but you never know. I guess it'll depend if he has any other show/project going on and who else is involved. I can't see him commiting to it if there are other opportunities happening at the same time, not with him having already done the 25th anniversary.
I've booked to see it in March but Killian isn't on for my date. Has anyone seen his understudy?
I'm going in March especially to see Paul Ayres as Charlie. He was great in all the other shows I've seen him in. Looking forward to his take on the role.
Cats was the first ever musical I watched back in 1990. In those days the show had a definite wow factor. Times change and what once was seen as a groundbreaking new musical might not have the same impact on first time viewers today. I haven't seen the current production so can't comment on the changes they made but I saw the last German tour of the show a couple of years ago and enjoyed it. I can see that it's not for everyone. There's a very thin narrative and some parts can drag a bit. But I don't question why it became such a popular show back in the days.
I think they tried the online lottery but the system crashed because thousands of people tried to enter. They are back to doing the regular lottery at the theatre until further notice.
Ben has been holding the "Favourite Tommy" crown for 8 years (for me). I love his take on the role. He never plays it exactly he same too which is great when you're a repeat visitor. Always something new to discover.
Very please Matt Hunt is being promoted. He was fantastic as Norm and Gyp (never managed to see his Nick so far but have heard good things). And Simon Bailey as Tommy is something I am really looking forward to.
I saw it in Hamburg a few times. I think it's a nice show. Not fabulous but nice. I'm not too keen on the German translation but some of the songs are great and with the right cast it's definitely worth watching. It's quite a visual spectacle. I only did repeat visits because of a friend in the cast though (otherwise once would have been enough as the "spectacle" kind of wore off for me). Funny enough I saw both Anton Zetterholm and Simon Thomas as Tarzan. Both probably familiar names for London theatre fans.
Oberhausen is close for me and that same friend might be in the cast again so in that case I'll probably go watch it again. :-)
Oberhausen is not the most exciting city so if you are planning a visit you should definitely aim to see some nearby, nicer cities. Düsseldorf has nice Christmas markets. Plus Cologne is worth a visit.
I think being frightened (no matter to what extend) is generally not necessary looking at the post referred to. I don't think any kind of harm was intended.
I can't speak for others but to me your post came across as comparison. You have now made it clear that wasn't your intention. A simple case of misunderstanding.
Legroom is great in row A. However, performers use the space in front so probably not recommended for someone who just wants to stretch out their legs.
I think being frightened is a slight overreaction too. ;-) Stasia, we know you have to deal with lots of snow in Russia. I bet it's no fun. But for other countries even THAT amount of snow (as you put it) is reason to "panic" (again, your words). Personally I don't think a "better save than sorry" approach was a good thing in this case. Business as usual would have been dangerous.
All Baemax was trying to say (I think) is that you can't compare Russia (= used to lots of snow since it's a regular occurence) and New York or Britain (= gets snow now and then but not regularly in huge amounts). It's a bit like comparing apples and pears. :-)
I loved A Steady Rain on Broadway but that was mostly due to excellent performances by Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig (I may be a little biased here too). It's a play that needs great casting to be of interest to me.
Except for scheduled holidays (and illness)Cassidy does all shows.
The show is offering discounts through Get Into London Theatre but only for shows until 12th February so that most likely won't be of any use for you. Several people (me included)have been able to get bargain tickets on the day simply by turning up at the box office and asking nicely. Again, possibly no use if you are coming from out of town and have to plan in advance. If you are able to take a risk asking at the box office on the day is worth a shot though. I went on a Saturday and got a nice stalls seat for 25 quid for the evening show around midday.
