My prediction is that if EW gets it....and I feel she will the RSC will become a community and education resource largely for Midlands with no wider aspirations. This is pretty much the case now as the ongoing projects, amateur involvement, schools links etc develop.Hall created a magnificent model of European repertoire based on classic/new work and radical Shakespeare. There is nothing there any more.....it feels lost.

By my reckoning the interviews should be this week or last.Await word on the streets but would point out a continuity candidate should have a glorious past to continue. If not a new broom is required to reinvent.

much as it would be amazing-not going to happen.
bristol appointment is high politics and so will rsc be.
nothing against nancy medina but we are witnessing a big board and director shift made for a future that i dont believe will bring the best theatre either in classic or contemporary drama
it will be a narrower field.
happily i will be wrong

Yes indeed
Start training now all disabled actors-you can play R111
This is absolute discrimination under guise of being socially aware.
Hard luck,Slinger,Fiennes,Goodman,McKellen,McArdle-dont want the likes of you here.
Greg -I feel very sorry indeed for his loss-but as he was writing his book the RSC was destroyed
Whole team out...new blood.
Board must be aware of all this.
Who will play Cymbeline ....need Welsh actors for evils......wicked Queen must have criminal record to empathise
ACTING-=BECOMING

Chichester have a programme of contrasting shows...two theatres operating plus the outreach.
RSC is very scaled down...but at least there is a garden for the soul rigged up .
How are the mighty fallen.

Bag checks don’t help…..snoopers
Nothing much to see in shop…vastly reduced stock
Tv screens dead
Cafe…tatty
Shows…..ok but no one knows much about these plays without pre research
No show pics on display to give flavour of what to see
Swan closed and area like long closed site with skips etc
Why bother

Both organisations failed Stratford. RSC ceased to exist for most people which explains a total lack of interest in the company beyond those who want change. I urge those concerned to write and lobby Board and Trustees,Recruitment agency and those on nominations panels. If they have enough responses they need to consider the best candidate rather than the expected …appropriate philosophy …appointment. Talking to people in Stratford on visit it is clear that most feel that there needs a full clear out at senior level…the very team that are responsible for demise. This includes Administrative staff who could not even open shop or cafe when others did across country. The RSC must be a new project….emphasis on sheer profession excellence. Whyman latest pronouncement of Royal Shakespeare Community is awful and so depressing. The p,ace feels like a hall where the top tal3nt has long gone……please write to Board and place some pressure to make honest appointment.

RSC website now has 30 page job pack.
Who can fulfil the brief…?
Interesting but also some odd elements.
Worth looking at and playing the game of who fits the bill.

If EW remains the company will sink into oblivion within a year.

By way of warning- take a look at new RSC video on website today-confirms the terrors Royal Shakespeare Community
Do we want this as the future-if so here is the appointment and it should be made with bold conviction.
If not then equally there must be someone out there who believes in excellence of the highest standards in global theatre.
Not to dismiss Community but to keep it as a division not the core.

Warner would be excellent but she would not do it-given that she has just taken on AD role at Ustinov Studio. The job specifies,i believe, that the post holder must live in Stratford-that would be difficult for the headliners in the sphere. It boils down to whether board have future of RSC as major player on global stage or community resource in their decision.Branagh would bring world of experience and major players back to town,Icke would bring huge international perspective and top line directors,Cooke would develop ideas that he had when Associate some years back. If Board go with EW-the demise of the RSC will be complete. Its not that she is a bad director, just OK,but her vision is part of the disaster that the company is heading towards. I still believe this will be the outcome and the deal all but complete.

All this is true and the new appointment is,I believe, the most important the company will ever make.Get it wrong and it will finish the RSC. Already it is perceived as a community theatre with its continual use of amateurs and lack of ground breaking work. Will be interesting to read the job description when it comes out on Friday. My real fear is that the whole process is cosmetic and board engineered to switch EW into role. She would be fine at Court or similar but seems blind to the importance of RSC as international level company. Over past three years the whole operation seemed to close except for beloved schools work which is their pride and joy. Even now the place feels soulless with no indication of what the season is or when shows are playing…tv screens dead….No feeling that this is the once great RSC . I do feel sorry for Greg having lost his partner but the RSC should be able to survive, A full clear out…drastic ,painful for many but it is the only opportunity to revitalise the project and start again. Swan,TOP need to produce work…only 2 plays in theatre June to October…no reason to go down to Stratford.EW will further the destruction if she gets the job.Thete will be work and there will be huge participation but the status will permanently be lost. Please tell me I am wrong….I want to be.

i think its hard......whyman has such a hold on delivering all their community projects and diversity......she will be hard to replace for the board-even though a new team is essential.
imagine trying to set up new policies with Ew lurking#

ACE place no value on excellence.
RSC place no value on excellence
Needs to close and reopen with all new teams in both Artistic and Admin.
Only two plays all summer……
Where is Doran..,….Whyman has got this by default……AD job should be advertised.
Awful .

On reading job ad it looks like they want a director for one piece opening March with huge commitment to community etc etc.,thought the role of AD was to create a policy of experienced directors…here they state no Shakespeare experience required. The RSC have lost all plots .

mission statement changes-
teaching and learning theatre
no time anymore for them. 2 shows in stratford during july-october....wonderful magnet for tourists.
peter hall once said life of rsc is 20 years
rsc is over-what we have is faded shadow trading under name.
didnt plan to comment as the whole wretched company needs to close as after break of maybe a year...reinvent with passion for stage.
no chance.

the strength of feeling is clear. It is certainly time for RSC enquiry into mission and execution. many lives have been changed by watching earlier RSC.......that was their unique purpose. Many other arts organisations put teaching at the core....teachers no longer hold the responsibility to do it properly and need support. H6 looks like a big community coach trip gasp.....many light years from the Boyd ensemble. RSC and NT poor shadows of former danger days.
