odd isnt it. EW was never AD-only acting and yet is dominating most RSC news and programme. New AD s will probably release season after the current work is moving to a close so it is not swamped by press for EW Ben and Imo...
hopeful

I share your thinking. Daniel and Tamara are setting up a structure it seems that will be worth waiting for.Trouble is we have to wait until next spring before anything can really happen. Fingers crossed .

EW in Sunday Times says she was disrupter at RSC and doubts with new AD s if there will be ant disruption. I think destroyer is a more appropriate label. She has taken RSC to depths where new AD team can’t get the company out of mire until her planned seasons come to a close. They have no real authority over the EW planning cycle. Why give page time to EW ….she has left and the RSC in time will be better for it. Not just yet.

So Macbeth.....an exploration of our wicked colonialism. I think both RSC and Globe must really loath this country ,our history, our way of life. RSC-Empress/Falkland Sound/ Globe/.....Macbeth......
The way audiences are treated by these companies is nothing short of a scandal.
High hopes for RSC...but not until next summer when Evans/Harvey get going properly.
Every culture is littered with mistakes and errors....this is the evolution of history.
Can we please look at theatre with some more original thinking.

My god. Imagine if any other theatres start doing white out events,….what terrors would be unleashed. This move is divisive and helps no one create a unified arts culture.

As far as I understand Winter is planned by EW and the first season of new AD's will not be until next summer. EW planned through until March.
Thats my understanding.

RSC have run out of tick boxes......so they have to invent more. When a global theatre becomes obsessed like RSC has become it loses sight as to what it could be. Yes-new plays exploring many themes, classical rethinks, superb acting, groundbreaking insight into Shakespeare-these should return as prime focus. The Board appointed two new AD's...why/..? They too must realise the disaster RSC has become and through the appointments seek to return the company to greatness.
Both GD and EW cannot expect glorification from audiences and supporters after their tenure.
Quite frankly-look at Swan programme after Hamnet...is that line up really going going to bring audiences in.
If I am wrong in any way...huge apologies.
Personally I am sure EW will have a lively freelance future and GD become a relective theatre voice.
Here's to RSC Futures.

By offering to help EW move out of Stratford is a kind thought, not hatred. EW has been a huge and destructive influence on the RSC .By placing her political agenda at the forefront this company models a community theatre without the success.Yes-she places Education at the core.Since when has this been the reason for RSC to exist in the town. The repertoire opportunity in Swan is terrible-after Hamnet with preaching and a programme to empty the house.Wait and see-I could be wrong but doubt it.
EW is not a good Director, none of her work has ever really made a mark. She has a reputation for shows with community/youth chorus or amateur casting as in Dream. All this is fine but not at RSC where it should be the place for Shakespeare,His contemporaries and new plays of exceptional note.
Greg D must share the blame and by jumping ship he handed EW the power to complete her terrible agenda. You only have to stand in a bar around the town to hear the dismay from audience and very often staff.
Can the RSC come back...? Honestly dont know-the Covid closure lost so much confidence and there was hope that Swan could help restore the faith but single plays,Swan repertoire,no TOP,and a Julius Caesar that students would disown suggests that Evans/Harvey will have a bigger problem than just pepering cracks.Actors and Directors no longer value the work.EW may claim Totoro is her success....its really a production that has RSC in logo but far more independent.
EW may have eyes on Royal Court.....who knows ...she leaves an RSC in ruins and her agenda must be reversed. Under her planning we hit the depths.
How saddening to feel this.

Dear Daniel and Tamara,
Get to Stratford as quickly as possible. .There will be no RSC left to run if this Caesar continues.
Good luck….you will need it

I am confused so perhaps someone can help me.
Today in The Stage Erica Whyman rightly identifies how difficult it is running a theatre and programming. So what has she done for summer….. The Swan theatre created essentially for early modern repertoire with exploration projects is given over after Hamnet to a programme of work that will not draw an audience in the town of Stratford. One doesn’t need to be wise to see this……the works focus on hectoring and lecturing bringing in all the excitement of a wet afternoon . Her desire to champion new writers is fine but TOP is pretty much empty whereas Swan houses a bill that will further harm RSC finances.Sheer arrogance.
Never has this company been in such an awful state and I think The Tempest success will be short lived.Evans and Harvey arrive in June with a massive job to do. Audiences have left this once groundbreaking theatre and it will take a mighty programme toget them back. I think even Royal Court would be anxious about the Sean lineup…..any AD in the current economic climate would be an absolute fool to do what has been done.
There is much unhappiness within the company at what has been done and I foresee the summer being more of the same. It is getting very late to save this company now .Listen to the chatter and from June 5 when new AD s in place hope that there is a theatre in the town for them to run.. On a recent visit I listened and spoke with lots of Stratfordians from restaurants to academics ….my constant criticism is nothing compared to theirs.
RSC is killing itself and EW must take much of the blame,. Let’s wish her well in her future career but coun5 the days until her Acting AD role ends

I would volunteer to pack the lorry taking her out of town…..she is the reason this company is no longer on the list.
Awful season announced and will empty the theatre after Hamnet. Only hope is that the new pair start to build ba ck but it’s going to take a long time.
Very depressed about this
