Anyway… moving on… What’s your favourite England Song? As in singles released to support England in football tournaments. It’s Coming Home? World In Motion? Vindaloo? World in Motion!!! 🤣 It's actually a good song, despite being a football song. It's Coming Home is a classic, mainly because I love The Lightning Seeds Broudie has a lot to answer for eh?

Nobody wants us to live under restrictions forever. I'm getting sick of this strawman argument. Society is built on restrictions, Matthew. Legal ones, societal constraints, moral issues etx all guide restrictions on how you live your life. What is special about wearing a mask for ten minutes in Tesco? Why not do away with them all in search of your true freedom. Why not leave your trousers on while having a poo, you only take them off because society has restricted you saying it is wrong to waddle aroundwith your arse covered in sh*te. Or stab someone, can't have these rules holding us back. Sure it's a rather messy metaphor but my point remains, how is this one restriction something that must be removed at all costs, but you are happy with all the others? Eh?

The prevailing argument seems to be that if the police waded in it would only make things worse, which is probably true, but I do think it's ridiculous that the fans are just allowed to behave however they want because there's a match on. Trashing a city centre and making life miserable for the people who live and work there isn't acceptable no matter how big the game is. This Its basically "Boris's Covids Over" Party

I'm not usually into football at all, but this is all a bit more fun so I will watch tonight. Watched my first entire game on Wednesday! But yeah all the hooliganism does put a huge downer on it all. I don't know why they have to go so crazy. Also fed up with Scottish people hating the English, wind your necks in. Eh?

You could say the same for other fans of sport. There's always a few bad eggs who ruins things for the majority. Exactly that. England (come on boys) Squad cannot he held, because of a lot of knobheads. With the amount of derision and hostile atmosphere being met over taking the knee, I think the England Squad are very brave to do so. I support taking the knee. For once It makes me proud to be English. This Go woke, go through

Needs repeating this post, so here we are.... Every time I log into the admin section of the forum i see a notice from proboards saying that they will not tolerate the spreading of misinformation about covid. To me "misinformation" is things like claiming that vaccines will kill you and you shouldn't trust doctors because they're only in it for the money and what you really need is my home remedy made from secret natural ingredients available now for the low low price of $4,500.
But if you want science...
There are some vaccines, such as those for tetanus or rabies, where all the protection they offer comes from boosting your immune system at the individual level. They don't change your likelihood of being exposed to the disease; what they do is give you as an individual an advantage in fighting it. The coronavirus vaccines are not that type of vaccine. Vaccines for diseases that are mainly spread from human to human gain a lot of their effect from reducing the spread of the disease; they do offer protection if you're unlucky enough to be exposed but much of their work is done by making it far less likely that you'll be exposed in the first place. It's the combination of both those factors that makes them effective. The way the disease is spreading right now shows that the vaccine isn't stopping the spread at all, which is not cause for panic but is certainly cause for concern.
Risk is an accumulation of factors. Let's suppose you make a certain car journey once a week. There's a certain risk of you being killed an accident. If someone now waves their magic wand and makes the roads twice as safe then you have half the chance of dying on each journey. But if you start making the same journey three times a week you're now more likely to be killed than before: the reduction of risk has been countered by the increased exposure to the risk.
The vaccines have certainly reduced our individual chances of being infected when we're exposed to this disease, and if we are infected it reduces our chances of dying. But that chance is still there, and every exposure to the disease is working against that reduced chance. Two months ago the infection rate where I live was around 49 per 100,000. As of a week ago it was 324 and climbing at 50% per week, so it'll be closing in on 500 per 100,000 by now. Thanks to the vaccine I'm about a quarter as likely to be infected if I'm exposed, but I'm ten times more likely to be exposed. My risk is two or three times what it was.
To get out of this mess it's not enough to protect individuals. We need protection at the group level, by keeping the reproduction rate of the virus below 1 so it doesn't get into the exponential growth phase that we're currently seeing. It may be that continuing with the vaccination programme will get us there, and according to the latest research the vaccines are effective enough against the delta variant that they will be sufficient. But we're not there yet, and the more this disease spreads into the population the harder it's going to be to recover. We simply haven't vaccinated enough of the most mobile members of society for it to be safe to remove all restrictions. The exponential growth of infections shows that.
And although I've been vaccinated I'm really not keen on making it prove its worth.

If it's acceptable for men of a certain age to find young women adorable, Emma Raducanu is absolutely adorable. Completely un-phased by playing on a big stage in front of a partisan crowd and, unlike a certain player who has decided to withdraw her labour, infectious in front of the world's media. Unfortunately, her next opponent seems to be a nasty piece of work with that Australian win at all costs mentality. Tomljanovic's behaviour on Saturday was most unbecoming and should result in some kind of penalty. Naomi Osaka? That’s a bit harsh, no

It always amazes me when you see tennis players slog it out for hours with sometimes hardly any time to recover and a then compare to a group of 11 players on a pitch for 45 minutes with a break then another 45 minutes. Then they may only have a few days to recover!! Having said that for a non sports fan I have never watched so much sport. Wimbledon and England matches at Euros!! Think Le Tour is missing out on a mention here. Amazing first week and Cav winning twice. Wow. I know the stars have nicely aligned but incredible five years since his last win. 34-32

The game showed again yesterday how close the fans are, how often they hug and yell at each other. Hundreds of them have certainly been infected, and these are now infecting thousands in turn. UEFA is responsible for the death of many people Oh no. Not good news www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-57667163

There are multiple illnesses and viruses around that people don't even think twice about possibly getting ill from, you can still get the flu you know at a younger age yet we don't all say that we must all get a flu jab otherwise we should be in a lock down because some age groups aren't protected from getting sick and it's not fair. Younger people are less at much less risk of getting serious disease and dying and in that case, with even every one of that younger age groups having some protection from the first vaccine, then I really don't see an argument for not re-opening fully, and I'm in that younger age group myself so none of this "old people don't care about us" business. This idea that every single person should have had both vaccines before we get back to normal is completely absurd to me. In any case, it's not happening, we will be out of lockdown (as far as we are being told at the moment) on July 19th whether people like it or not. If people are worried they can take personal responsibility and carry on wearing masks and social distancing and not going out as much, that is up to them, you can still do all these things if you feel you need to without them being forced on everyone else too. As we have have been told many times before on this thread, these things are "mild inconveniences", so what exactly then is the problem with those who feel the need to still take those steps still doing them whilst allowing everyone else to go back to normal? Do you really need there to be a blanket rule on the entire population? My friend in Germany said they have a QR code for being double vaccinated. Can visit hotels, bars and restaurants etc with the code. Everybody has it and it has given them more freedoms than us. Mind also said... it’s made things as normal as they can be right now. We had 15 new cases in Hamburg yesterday and the incidence rate is 9/100,000. Obviously can change very quickly with the delta variant but there’s legislation here too that if that number hits 100/100,000 things automatically shut down again. Liverpool was 335/100,000 yesterday...

He's not the type who's likely to go out of his way to protect the NHS from privatisation, if that's what you're thinking. But no Conservative MP is going to protect the NHS from privatisation. I agree with HereForTheatre, he's the lesser of the evils available. Horrible what we have settled for now eh

Great advice in this thread. Just to add if you have a morning free, go on a ‘walk’ through the City of London . You can get walks from internet or a book, lots available. Go into the churches which are crammed with interest, the little streets still same wiggle as pre fire of London. Some lovely family restaurants still there (Avoid the chains) You can book ahead to go up one of the tall office blocks, great views. And if you have never done it, the Tower of London is a hoot. Great advice this post. A weekend walk in city of london, all the churches and history. Don't forget St Dunstan's in the East bombed out church. An hour relaxing there in the middle of the city with the views.

Biggest mistake was not putting Cummings in the back room. Cannot now sack or demote anyone. Johnson actually not ruthless enough. It's going to be an interesting few days. If Hancock doesn't resign, or he isn't sacked, then it leaves the Government completely powerless. Any message they try to enforce will not work. Cummings was the straw that broke the camel's back. but this is on a whole other level. I just hope people keep talking about it, I already emailed my MP and will continue to do so until Hancock is sacked. I am absolutely incandescent with rage. I gave up a year of my life following his rules and regulations only for him to laugh openly in my face as he breaks them. Johnson may consider the matter closed, I certainly don't. This Sleaze will get the Tories, always does

For many years even decades the majority in the UK elects these bigot representatives... always only appearance than substance...so live with it or start to go fo a change. Your whole education/university system is only supporting the rich snobs..Hancock studied in Oxford and Cambridge...after this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King%27s_School,_Chester maybe something very foul in this system... Hancock is only a representative of this corrupt system. Oh I get what you mean now. Agreed. What do they need to do not to get your vote?

I didn't have any side effects from the second dose apart from a sore arm, while the first dose had me off work for a day and a half. Other way round for me, first dose was fine. Had second dose Wednesday evening, first felt fine, then yesterday fatigue, headache and more hit me like a brick. Still feeling "off" this morning. But I keep telling myself it's a good sign that my body is swinging into action. No side affects from either jab. I don't know if it made the difference but from the night before I drank lots of water for forty eight hours. Got to be worth a try for all those still awaiting a jab

Yesterday I had an email from the NHS saying my 2nd jab appointment had been cancelled. Cue a couple of hours of panic, as when I went online to try to re-book the centre wasn't even on the list, let alone any appointments. Then I had another email from the NHS saying that they're going to be doing walk-in clinics 24th June-4th July for AstraZeneca 2nd doses. So I went there this morning & got my 2nd dose. There was a long queue of young people waiting for Pfizer but not many waiting for AstraZeneca so I didn't have to queue for long. I still found it stressful though, as I've not seen that many people in person since last year! Now waiting to see if side effects kick in. I can't say I feel any safer, with the media reporting that AstraZeneca is less effective than Pfizer against the variants, but at least I've got it done. Drink lots of water, stay hydrated

I confess I mute people if they start retweeting or posting anything remotely political because it becomes boring after a while. I know people have the right to express their opinion but if I wanted to see posts from say Owen Jones, I'd follow Owen Jones! I've found the turn off retweets option useful for a couple of people I follow, opera critics whose reveiws I want to read but whose political retweets I don't. Serial tweeter Owen Jones. Up there with the likes of Britney, Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran as most prolific tweeters reposted. At one point was second on the list to Trumpy

Any walk ins around? My second jab on Sunday was cancelled so I turned up yesterday. Explained situation of cancelled appointment and was straight through. Definitely worth trying as 13 weeks is too late Not as far as I know. Try ringing the 119 number, also try your local hospitals. I don't know if it's the same in your area as mine but vaccination at hospital hubs are separate from the options you get on the NHS website . I phoned 119 last night, before booking online, as I was worried because the website said you had to book both jabs, and from what they were saying it seemed that they could only see the same availability on the NHS website as I could. I haven't heard that my local hospital has been doing vaccinations at any point. They want to get you vaccinated. I would try the local centre. Two or three who came in with me had appointments cancelled. They want everyone through

Having had my last-minute first jab on 8th April at a nearby medical practice I've been waiting to hear from my practice as to when I can book the 2nd jab, as I'm now over 10 weeks since the first. Today my mother had a phone call from her doctor about other issues & at the end asked him when I'd be contacted. Turns out the local practices are no longer doing vaccination. So I looked up the NHS covid website for appointments in Cambridge. Apart from tomorrow, which is impossible as we are having to self-isolate before my mother has a procedure done in hospital on Monday, I can't get an appointment until the 2nd week of July. By that time it'll be over 13 weeks since I had my 1st jab. So much for people being told to get their 2nd jabs sooner! Any walk ins around? My second jab on Sunday was cancelled so I turned up yesterday. Explained situation of cancelled appointment and was straight through. Definitely worth trying as 13 weeks is too late
