Ah I used to do the same thing, every summer I'd use my birthday money and buy another double cassette of yet another musical and then listen to it continually while singing along in the back of the car. Oh the happy pre-pubescent days when I could belt out Christine's part (and final note) of the Phantom of the Opera title song.
Nowadays, my prize CDs are in a drawer, everything backed up into iTunes and also use Deezer which streams a lot of good musical fodder.

I would but then it is *so* expensive it's really put me off. I'm hoping later in the year when hype dies down the offers and deals will start.
(and apparently the trick to the dome is to stay to the sides where the fans are as the silver/gold bits of paper collect nearest them)

Costume will presumably be Sam hiding under a sheet from Primark with two eye holes cut out.

Has the 'horror' been lessened in this? I was expecting it to be far more brutal and graphic (don't get me wrong, I'm no sadist and found it difficult to watch) but kind of expected more to warrant the hype. Unless hype is what it is...

If memory serves (and I hated Ghost so tried to remove as many as possible) it was used towards the end on the stage right section of their apartment where Sam was there one minute and gone the next. They also used a variant when he passed through the door but the frame of the poster was used to mirror image the door. By far the biggest magical trick was managing to get an audience night after night but Paul Kieve didn't have much to do with that one...

I am not sure. I remember Paul telling me that the fading away illusion was the first time it had been done in a very long time and the whole set had to be designed around that moment (it' not in any tour of the show, sadly) Here's a televised version of it: The effect in LOTR may've been a smaller version of it done by Paul. Elphaba's flying is weak - it was also done in Joseph in the early 90s, so it's nothing amazing. The reason it works, much like the helicopter, is that it happens at the emotional high point in the show so, like all good magic, the story itself is 80% of the effect! I do like the paper plane trick in Charlie - if you're sat very close to the stage you can see how it's achieved, but it always takes people by surprise and, again, works in the emotional moment of the show. It's ironic that it's the best magic trick in the piece, really... It was indeed Pepper's Ghost used in LOTR, very effective (although the night I went the glass wobbled so ruined it slightly).

The RSC/Opera North Show Boat at the Palladium. The plot itself flew over my head but the sight of the Cotton Blossom magically appearing before my young eyes was the start of the MT obsession.

are we going for a Broadway type January meltdown here with mass closures? With Bodyguard and Showboat already announced closing in January! Not especially, both of those are limited seasons that just happen to close in the new year.

Sorry I should've been clearer! Panto School of Rock is opening at the Palladium in the autumn - so there won't be a Palladium panto (Cinderella or otherwise....) It's not, it's been pushed back for an early 2017 opening. Panto is going in (oh yes it is).

As he is in the Big Brother house until Friday night - he will only have 6 days rehearsal at most before the tour opens on Friday next week! It's not the biggest part I suppose but it must have been a nightmare having him missing all the rehearsals. He had lengthy rehearsals before going in the house, and has 30-60 mins private time in the house to rehearse, learn scripts, massage his own ego etc. He'll be fine. It's a fairly easy track other than 'Both Reached for the Gun'. Plus smarm doesn't exactly need rehearsal when it comes so naturally.

Spend Spend Spend is being released as part of a Barbara Dickson 4CD set which will also be very limited. That's selling for £50 so a cheaper option. You absolute legend. May your theatre visits never appear on the 'Bad behaviour' thread. May you never see an understudy ever again. May your seats forever be upgraded. Just pre-ordered it! Thank you so much for the nod!

I have the CD of Spend Spend Spend and programme which I am saving for when times get hard. I'm so jealous, have been looking for it for ever. Even Amazon has a new one for £800+.
