Following on from the news that Ushers will be wearing bodycams to protect themselves from the egregious behaviour of the general public, The Stage have spoken to Ushers past and present to gather some accounts of specific events. So. They include... You ready for this? The Ferryman usher“A woman arrived late for The Ferryman, at the Gielgud, and was shown to the latecomers monitor and told that the entry point is approx 12 minutes in. ‘Do you know who I am?! Sam Mendes is a friend of mine, he’d be horrified to know that you’re making me wait,’... She walked away, but then suddenly turned and shouted: ‘I will have you fired. You’re history.’” The Lion King usher"You have to stand outside the Lyceum and filter people in: it’s one at a time, and quite often it tends to be a boyfriend getting protective about a girlfriend and saying: ‘No, she’s coming in with me.’ And that’s when they get aggressive, and push you out the way, or in my case, pushed up against a wall... I was once standing selling ice creams and a mum came up with her daughter and said: ‘Look darling, this is what happens if you don’t do well at school.’ " The Wicked usher
“A show got cancelled one day due to a fault with the automation on the set. As you can imagine, we had angry patrons everywhere but one particular patron decided to tell a colleague of mine: ‘I hope you die of a brain tumour'.... Two patrons got into an argument because Woman A kept on getting up to leave the row. Woman B kindly asked her to stop getting up as it was distracting her from the show and that next time she got up to leave she would not let her back in. Woman A ignored this and left anyway. Woman A then went and pooed into a tissue and came back and smeared it all over Woman B’s face." Im struggling for words to describe my despair with society. Full article: www.thestage.co.uk/news/2019/from-verbal-and-physical-abuse-to-poogate-ushers-reveal-their-worst-experiences-working-front-of-house/Speechless ... great comeback from the Usher at The Ferryman though - but the stories are quite incredible - what is the matter with people?

I'm looking at JOJ nights and haven't found any yet 😞 I’ve just looked at Monday 16th September - I believe that’s a JOJ performance date and the Upper Circle slip seats are definitely available

On what dates? I can't find any. They are currently available on quite a few dates - upper circle they are yellow squares on either side - suggest you get in quick before the marketing machine fully gets rolling (esp as there’s not much left unless there are hidden production seats yet to be released) 😄

Not sure if it is news but there are grand circle slip seats on sale for £17.50, I was thinking about getting one for my birthday but think I will hold off until reviews come in! For the price they are an absolute steal and are certainly the only seats I can afford - I’m told the view isn’t too bad but you do have to lean forward tho you have no one behind to complain you are blocking their view. However, legroom is minimal

3 The Inheritance - quite possibly the finest play I’ve seen in 40plus years of theatregoing
2 the final night of 42nd street at drury lane for reasons others have given but also a real yah boo sucks to the critics who said American in Paris would run longer
1 30th anniversary of Les Mis at the Queens - paid stupid money on my credit card but what an evening that was - will live in my memories for ever

Jac’s off tonight so Michael Pickering is debuting as Joseph. would have liked to see that performance ... he was excellent as an understudy Frankie Valli in the first tour of ‘Jersey boys’

To those there this evening - are we still looking at 3hours run time as I’m on a booked train after Saturday’s matinee out of Euston so fear I may have to leave at interval Sorry to hear that. I travel long distances by train using advance tickets to see matinees but have learnt always to allow 60-90 minutes between the likely finish time and my booked train back to London. Most musicals are between 2 hr 15 and 2 hr 45 including the interval so Bridges at 2 hr 50ish isn't that super-long really. It's the addition of a 3.30pm start time that's the biggest problem. A matinee not finishing till almost 6.30pm is crazy. You might still be able to amend your advance ticket to a train an hour or two later but it will come at a cost - £10 + the difference between what you've paid and the new ticket. I would ideally be booking a train departing from Euston about 7.30pm although the London Bridge tube entrance is only a few minutes walk from the theatre and the Northern Line tube journey takes 12-14 minutes. I'd say if a show finished at Menier at 6.20pm you'd probably reach Euston about 6.45pm and would make a 7.00pm departure. Thank you for the advice 😃 unfortunately I’m reliant on a connection further into my journey so basically if I miss it I won’t get home tonight so changing my train isn’t an option. Box office informs me the run time is 2.45 so that gives a 6.15 finish allowing me an hour to get to Euston for my train. I’ll keep fingers and toes crossed for no stoppages 🙏

Saw the matinee - wasn’t sure I fully understood the story but thought Matthew Broderick commanded the stage - there seemed to be raucous laughter at lines that I smiled at but didn’t think as funny as others. Despite the clear announcement and signage a mobile still went off 15mins in which peed me off. I’d bought a ticket in upper circle for £13.25 which was upgraded to row F of stalls which was perfect ... I wouldn’t have wanted to sit any further forward as that stage is very high

Gutted .... this really won’t make me popular I know but for the first time ever seeing a show I felt like just leaving halfway through ... and I’ve seen bat boy and hard times and found something I enjoyed in both of them . Can’t put my finger on it really as on paper it’s right up my street and the cast were flawless but I just didn’t connect with the piece on any level ...the rest of the audience jumped to its feet standing ovation lots of cheering etc ... now on reflection this may be why The disrespectful disruptive few people in the circle tonight would be really interested to hear if anyone else was in tonight and had similar experience? They seemed to have no self awareness or that they weren’t at home watching tv but in a public space a theatre full of people who like them have too come out for a treat to enjoy watching live show I really don’t think allowing large bottles of wine into a auditorium is a good idea 💡 they search your bags then let people take glass into a dark theatre One couple few rows in front continually filling up raising glasses in the air to check they have right ones then cheers to each other during the show ?? Then need the loo jump up from seat so it clanks back up this happens at various times all around the circle ... I mean if you have to go at least hold the seat till it’s upright Then group of girls in front again bottle of wine 3 glasses chinking eachothers glasses at every top up ... leaning forward to put bottle down and again to pick it up disturbing the lady in front each time ... then one drops glass on the floor Sound of glass hitting metal parts of seat .... then raising the bottle up to check how much is left affecting eyeline of the 7 rows behind them ..... repeatedly whispering to each other moving around lady in front got up in the end and stood at back for last 15mins Then she starts to text !!!! I lean forward to ask her to put phone away so she raises it higher into the air at this point i went out to speak to staff who to be fair were concerned and sent someone to stand by the row they then quietened down and put phone away Arghhhhhhhh. Whole night ruined 240 mile round trip lots of money as missed rush seats ... and came out really miffed 😡 Really sorry your evening was ruined. If you are old enough to remember the events as they happened it really is a very poignant piece of theatre and having seen it three times With a 4th booked I can only suggest a return visit to a matinee showing if that’s possible in the restricted view stalls seats if you can’t dayseat. Regrettably Saturday night audiences tend to be a different breed but the matinee audiences I’ve experienced have been nothing less than totally respectful

Just had an email saying it's 25% off drinks up to half an hour before curtain. Ah but does that mean you can order drinks for interval up to 30mins before curtain ... if not, I’m thinking we will order a bottle of wine/fizz 15 mins before the start, take a glass in and have the rest for the interval - yet again ATG haven’t thought this through

On my way home from matinee and let’s just say I loved it ... maybe I was lucky with my seat at stage level but I was totally engaged throughout the whole show and not a single mobile intrusion ... see even Saturday matinee audiences on final show day can behave occasionally ... tho there was a rather irritating woo-hooper after the key numbers which I thought ruined some of the moments

A lady has replied to Alfie's tweet saying that 'John Owen Jones isn't a patch on you' even though John is tagged in the tweet... she's asking for trouble! To be honest I wouldn’t imagine JOJ gives a toss - he’s got more shows and more publicity

Wish I could make the workshop for Murder at The Gates. We really need Bonnie & Clyde or Carrie to be staged at The Other Palace. Evelyn as the lead. A nice long run. And the chance for other people to workshop stuff in the meantime. I saw the workshop for Bonnie & Clyde and thought it was great - been waiting for it to be picked up

It took 80 mins for me from receipt of link email to getting into booking site. Not much left for first preview on 29th October but appears to be lots of availability otherwise

Is there a tour thread for this? if so feel free to move? I went to this in Cardiff last night, and rediscovered my love of this show. I saw it in San Francisco in 2006 and adored it, then caught the first UK tour and loathed it (which in fairness was the fault of the horrid lady sat next to me...) but last night I rediscovered what I love about this show- I'm a nerd for biopics in general and this is still the gold standard of how to do that in a jukebox musical. The cast were uniformly great I thought, I particularly liked Simon Bailey and I'm now trying to place what the hell I've seen him in before. Anyway as the kids say I'm a total Jersey Boys stan now. playrightplaywrong.blogspot.com/2019/01/jersey-boys-national-tour.htmlHe played Raoul in the last Phantom Tour

Can't see any tickets avalaible for the month of July, has the booking period been shortened ? I can't even get on to the booking page to book for July - saying it's taking too long to load. Has there been a surge in ticket sales since this news was announced? I got a ticket for July earlier using this link www.lesmis.com/london/tickets but it seems to have ground to a halt probably due to overload
