So after 25 mins some music started to play and hippies walked up the side of the stalls and onto the stage standing in a line. Then another hippy came on from the wings and told everyone to leave the stage. Disgraceful behaviour from the audience members concerned.

Loved every minute of this tonight. This isn't an in-house Ovation production from Upstairs at the Gatehouse but it's every bit as good.
Two hours of 50s and 60s hits delivered with sensational vocals, stunning four-part harmonies and a whole lot of humour. The cast are utterly sublime. Both in between and during the songs, the show is frequently laugh-out-loud funny. The whole thing is just so darn fun!
There's a lot of audience interaction so unless you want to be directly serenaded with I Only Want To Be With You or berated with You Don't Own Me then the front row of the centre block (and particularly the extreme ends of it) are seats to take with caution!
The show has a week to go at Upstairs at the Gatehouse and will then transfer to the Theatre Royal, Windsor. I'd love to see it again.
Four and a half stars.

Well that's a fortune saved on the Coliseum's usual sky high ticket prices.

Can you buy tickets for this on the door, or do you have to telephone/email in advance? It is a shame there is no online box office. Probably best in advance. Friday is already sold out.

It seems that a new production of The Clockmaker's Daughter could be in the pipeline.
Maybe we might also see a song from the show performed at West End Live? That fits with the date of 23rd June.
Excited to see what's in store in Spindlewood!

Not been the best Easter weekend for me. Had to say goodbye to my beloved canine companion, Remus, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel, on Saturday - just a few weeks short of his fifteenth birthday. He'd been diagnosed with a suspected tumour in his mouth last year (the vet didn't recommend a biopsy at the time because of the risk of general anaesthesia given his age). The tumour developed slowly at first but became more aggressive in the past couple of months to the point where it became apparent on Friday that it was time to say a sad, fond farewell the following day. He really was a dog in a million and I'll miss him so much. Here's a slightly blurred photo of him choosing his favourite shows from the Edinburgh Fringe programme a couple of years ago.

I knew it wouldn't be long before a production of Spring Awakening was announced. This one is by Car Crash Productions who in previous years have unfortunately lived up to their name.

The Wardrobe Ensemble's Education, Education, Education is transferring to Trafalgar Studios 1 from 31st May to 29th June. I can highly recommend this from the Edinburgh Fringe 2017!

Looking on ATG, Come From Away seems to have loads of availability at almost every performance from the middle of next week. Even Saturdays after this weekend don't seem to be selling very well in advance. I thought I'd struggle to get tickets to see it again in the next few weeks but there's half the auditorium to choose from on the dates I had in mind!

All this talk of bananas reminds me of the show where a young guy sits in a rocking chair while dressed in a gorilla costume, rocks away quite happily for 56 minutes, then gets up and walks off. That show has to be a Fringe institution! It's free of charge and apparently sells out its one-night run every year. I can't wait for another August at the Fringe. As in previous years, the plan is to be in Edinburgh for the first ten days of the festival, returning home for a few days, then heading back to the Fringe for another ten-day stint into the final weekend. Accommodation has been booked since October for Friday 2nd to Sunday 11th August and Friday 16th to Sunday 25th August. Changing from the Premier Inn by Edinburgh Park station (10 minutes out of Waverley on the train) to a Hub by Premier Inn near Haymarket has meant being able to reduce the cost of accommodation by more than 50% so I'm chuffed with that. Paying around £50 a night for reasonably central, decent accommodation in Edinburgh during the festival seems like good value for money and the 20-minute walk to the old town, past the castle, should be a nicer start to each day than a packed-out Scotrail train! 467 shows are on sale so far for the 2019 Fringe (plus three fake dog-related shows which formed part of their April Fools joke last week!) but that number should rise to nearly 1,500 next week when the next batch of shows are unveiled. By 16th May, the final advance sale date prior to the full programme launch, the line-up for Pleasance, Underbelly, Assembly and Gilded Balloon should be complete. Interesting to see that Gilded Balloon have a couple of new venues this year, in addition to their usual haunts, one of which is the former hub of C Venues on Chambers Street. There's generally no need to book very much until the full programme is out but the shows on my 'must-see' list so far are: - Art Heist (Poltergeist Theatre, Underbelly)
- Atomic Saloon Show (Spiegelworld, Assembly)
- Bottoms Up! (Minotaur Theatre Company, theSpaceUK)
- Circa: Humans (Circa, Underbelly)
- Conspiracy (Barrel Organ, Underbelly)
- CSI: Crime Scene Improvisation (The Chandeliers, Underbelly)
- Fern Brady: Power and Chaos (IAM Presents, Monkey Barrel)
- Hitler's Tasters (New Light Theater Project, Greenside)
- Notflix: Originals (Austin Talent, Gilded Balloon)
- Showstopper! The Improvised Musical (Something for the Weekend, Pleasance)
- Tokyo Rose (Burnt Lemon Theatre, Underbelly)
- YUCK Circus (YUCK Circus, Underbelly)
That's all three winners of this year's Underbelly Untapped awards, a few Fringe staples, and one of my favourite student companies (Minotaur Theatre from the University of East Anglia). It's no surprise that there's already a production of The Last Five Years confirmed for this summer. It's just a shock that there's no sign of Spring Awakening thus far. Early days though!

Very happy to read the rave reviews the Six performance is getting on social media this evening after the mixed reaction to The One Show earlier in the week.
The achievement in music award would have been very much deserved but Come From Away is a worthy winner for best new musical.
The state of the best actor in a musical category compared to Sharon, Rosalie, Adrienne and Kelli though! They should have just not bothered with the men and given two awards for best actress instead!

Lucy and Toby seem to have had a busy week. A brief appearance on The One Show on Tuesday, 15-20 minute interview on Radio 2 on Wednesday, and then 10-15 minutes on Sky News yesterday morning.
Hopefully a few more interviews will be lined up this week after they nab best musical, outstanding achievement in music, and best actress in a supporting role in a musical this evening!

Hi, I’m new here, but anyone be able to tell me how long the booking period is currently? Don’t have DMT+ and would like to know before the general sale begins. Currently booking until Saturday 8th February 2020.

I think this will go to the Piccadilly or the Savoy which is the perfect theatre for it. it will open for previews 2nd October on a Wednesday with an opening night for sometime in November. And they will do a ticket deal for anyone who wears pink on a Wednesday just like they do on broadway. And £20 day seats. If they open around this time my matinee is sorted for my 2 show day in November . This show is so fetch I love it 😊 my mum loved it aswell ☺️ when we saw it on Broadway. I'd make alternative arrangements for that two show day in November!

Poor Lucy and Toby barely got a minute (maybe even less) thanks to the Have I Got News For You overload.
I actually thought it was a great performance that captured the spirit of the show well. Millie absolutely smashed it.
I can imagine those not familiar with the show being a bit bemused and thinking 'what the hell am I watching' though!

The rehearsal process for this in Bochum sounds completely exhausting but the arena is something else!
Jessica-Elizabeth Nelson (who was the lead in Nice Work If You Can Get It at Upstairs at the Gatehouse over Christmas) has joined the production recently as a swing and has been sharing various updates and videos on her fan page on Facebook. It sounds like an amazing, if slightly overwhelming, experience!

I'm suddenly interested, with Anna O'Byrne being in it. Booked for the 2nd preview, as £26 seems more reasonable to me than £36 at a fringe venue. I'd booked already but really pleased with this casting news. She was fab in The Woman In White.
