The in-house Ovation productions at the Gatehouse are fantastic. Top Hat is probably the closest to 42nd Street they've done before. Joanne Clifton led the cast for that. I wonder if they'll ask her back for this!

Get it into the Open Air Theatre. It will be great to hear the opening refrain of "There's a bright golden haze on the meadow" just before the heavens open and the performance is abandoned.

I'd say the Menier Autumn production will announce first before the Christmas musical. The Autumn production (The Watsons) was announced a few weeks ago and is already on sale.

It's an unusual schedule as it stands. Just 18 performances over 38 days and only 5 are on weekdays. Do they add more according to demand ? The unusual schedule is because it's being performed in rep with their in-house production of Antigone. The layout of the theatre for Made by Storyhouse productions is bench seating for the four rows in the Pit (the stage is raised up above what's usually the stalls for touring productions). Front row of the Pit is good value.

Some of the top prices seem to have come down slightly in the new booking period. £225 in some parts of the stalls instead of £250 for the Saturday matinee I was looking at. The centre of Row K in the stalls is £175 for the same performance and I'm sure that's previously been £250 too. Still hardly affordable but a marginal improvement.

Saw this again last night in New Brighton and it's still just as sharp and slick as it was a year ago in Manchester. The dance captain is certainly doing a great job in keeping Nick Winston's choreography so tight while the cast continue to give every number their all. No sign of fatigue setting in after twelve months on the road.
Jorgie Porter's dancing was exquisite right back at the start of the tour but she's more assured in other aspects of her performance now too (though it's a shame she doesn't get a solo number to sing). It's still Jamal Kane Crawford, Molly McGuire and Stephanie Rojas who steal the show for me as Tyrone, Serena and Carmen respectively, though there's really not a weak link in the entire company.
Great to see the Floral Pavilion packed to the rafters on a Monday night. The standing ovation at the end is contrived but I was more than happy to get to my feet. Definitely plan to catch this one last time during its London run at the Peacock.

The banners are up outside Assembly Hall, George Square Gardens are open in all their Fringey glory from this afternoon, a purple cow is soon to be inverted, and certain University of Edinburgh buildings are about to get a yellow Pleasance makeover! Three weeks to go!

Baz was shooting from the hip about the Prince of Egypt today. He comments how "hardly anyone knows... and fewer seem to care" that the musical is opening in London next year, claims that "it's not making much headway at the box office", and reveals that "Friends who saw it told me they'd rather spend three hours in an Egyptian sand storm than sit through it again." Ouch. It's the second article on the page at www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-7215297/BAZ-BAMIGBOYE-Stephen-Sondheims-lights-West-End.html.

The website says this is 'based on the Chichester production' which is an interesting phrase. Presumably new cast (mainly?) with the same director (Sam West) but differently configured for a different auditorium? Grace Molony is definitely reprising her role from the original cast.

Does anyone know what time the tickets usually go on sale at Menier? The website says tomorrow is the general sale, but no time. Cheers, It's always midnight when they go on sale for the Menier on each on-sale date for Cupcake/Brownie/Souffle members and the general public.

Casting announced!
The full cast is Dominic Andersen, Rebecca Gilhooley, Evelyn Hoskins, Scott Hunter, Sophie Isaacs, Dean John-Wilson, Ashley Samuels and Gemma Salter.
Can't wait to see this in Edinburgh!
Evelyn Hoskins has a busy second half of 2019. Cruel Intentions at the Fringe, Assassins at the Watermill/Nottingham Playhouse and then Snow White at Sheffield Lyceum.

Front row of the stalls looks the best value at the Palace Theatre in Manchester.
£65 (£70 Friday/Saturday) standard price or £70 (£75 Friday/Saturday) premium for most of the stalls and circle apart from the extreme sides, with the front row of the stalls £52 (£56 Friday/Saturday).

Have all of the previous tours called at Liverpool. Do we expect this one to? The last Phantom tour visited the Empire in 2013. Hopefully this one will too!

Running 26th March - 30th May at the Palace Theatre in Manchester.
So, in May 2020, there'll be West Side Story at the Royal Exchange, Les Mis at The Lowry, Phantom at the Palace, and Back to the Future at the Opera House! Not too shabby.
Wonder if Hope Mill have something equally spectacular to add to the mix?!

Is there a date Laura is due to be back? 8 weeks was mentioned a couple of times by David Hunter on Saturday in his post-show speech so that would make Monday 12th August seem the most likely date.

No former Pussycat Doll or member of Girls Aloud? Meh, count me out. On a serious note, I wasn't going to book for this but may have to now.

Nope. Just heard back from them. Ticketmaster set-up is wrong, the seating remains the same. Clue was - the aisle had gone but the seat numbers hadn't altered. They wouldn't have the same numbers if they had in-filled extra seats. Ah, good detective work there TM! It did seem a bit odd seeing as they've not long since extended the centre aisle down to those rows! Now I just need to win the lottery and I can afford a nice centre aisle seat on Row G.

Looks like they're tweaking the layout to replace the centre aisle for rows G, H and J in the stalls from the end of September. The seating plan for performances from Monday 30th September onwards shows the centre aisle in the stalls starting from Row K, whereas it's shown as Row G back for performances up to and including Saturday 28th September.
