Saw this on broadway and despite having what was without doubt the MOST irritating audience EVER (I'm still fuming. They clapped/wooped/ laughed at every.single.line! ARGHHH! Don't get me wrong, there are some funny moments, but there are also some serious, harrowing moments which do not deserve a huge guffaw from more than half the circle! I wonder if the run time includes the time which the audience spends stopping the show for minutes on end and killing every moment of tention with their wooping etc. Can you tell I'm not impressed?! Anyway... ) Cynthia, Jennifer Hudson, Danielle Brookes (who I'd never heard of until I saw her in this!) and Kyle Scatliffe were all absolutely fabulous. Cynthia's I'm Here was breathtaking!

Is Hushabye Mountain oddly sped up still? Thought that was quite jarring in Leeds.

Still not convinced by some of his acting choices and I would certainly be interested to see his understudy. I know I raved about his understudy a page or two ago, but he really was very very good. My sister wants to see the show and I'm suggesting that she goes during one of Killian's holiday dates. I've loved Killian previously but thought when he was announced that he's not who I'd have picked. Still, maybe I'll return too see him if he stays on for a while... I've no desire to rush back having found the show only okay.

Love checking out other people's blogs. Contrary to the belief of some, I think blogging is a fantastic way to keep track of what you see, and just generally really enjoyable! My own blog is talkstageytome.blogspot.co.uk And my twitter is @oddjazzshoes

Most other reviews so far have been positive.
As I still don't really understand the rules, is this show eligible for the 2016 Oliviers?

Oliver Tompsett is very tempting. I've not seen this new production yet and was going to wait for the tour but may have changed my mind now!

I agree with what Ali972 said about Thuy. He's absolutely my favourite character. I like the fact that they didn't go with a big scary guy. It's really interesting to see that, like Kim / The Engineer, he's just doing what he has to do to survive. And I really like Sangwoong Jo's acting and voice, though I agree that had I not know his songs already it would be been hard to hear what was being said.
And having seen Eva and Sooha, I much preferred Sooha. Eva has a stunning voice but Sooha felt much more innocent and natural. Both were excellent but Sooha was perfect for me.

Was shocked by this. 1* feels totally unfair and the review seems not to take note of perhaps the most important questions raised by the play. Some elements were really quite touching and felt a lot more like they justified using blasphemy etc than that found in the likes of BoM (which I also love). Also, if nothing else, the superb cast deserves a bit more praise than that given. Luckily the audience reaction on twitter is much more positive than this one review. Very shocking, but I suppose it just goes to show how polarizing a play can be! I personally loved this. Possibly the best thing I've seen in 2016 so far!

I feel you're maybe reading too much into word choice. As he has an upcoming concert I's say that it makes perfect sense that we 'must' have a thread of discussion. I wasn't really keen to go before but those prices have definitely put me off! Still, sounds like it'll be a great night for fans!

Anyone knows what happened yesterday? I've read that Paul had to step in for Killian at some point, so people got two Charlies for the price of one, as he joked on twitter. Just wondering how that happened Oh and I heard from someone in the dayseat queue who was there on the night that Killian's voice just totally disappeared mid song, as in he just couldn't make a sound. Very odd. Hope he's okay.

Hmmm, saw Kinky Boots for the first time this afternoon (fab front row dayseats!) and although there were some great moments, overall my friend and I were less than wowed. Some of the songs were incredible (Step One, Everybody Say Yeah, History of Wrong Guys etc.) but the story just fell flat. It seemed too predictable, and that predictability took away so much of the tension. There was no gut wrenching moment, and the one bit that did strike a cord (nursing home) felt too cheesy to me.
I must say though, having read about Charlie's act two outburst making no sense, I found that it made a lot of sense (although still wasn't justified or forgivable in the moment, of course!). To me it seemed like something said in the spur of a moment, that you are too stubborn/embarrassed to take back because you want to win the argument. He knew, based on their relationship, what would sting the most, and in a moment of anger he used it as a weapon. You could tell he immediately regretted it and for that reason it made sense. Although it still was a moment where you could almost hear the audience booing and hissing, and I totally got that!
Cast was a bit of a mixed bag. I expected to love Matt Henry but felt let down to be honest. I'm convinced it must have been an off day for him given the praise he's received, because really he just came off as too over the top, and not in a good way. So many moments fell flat and it often sounded like he was reading from a script. Very odd. His voice however, was fab. Loved some of the ensemble, Michael Vinson and Chloe Hart stood out, and of course, ALL of the Angels were fantastic. Liked Amy Lennox as Lauren, and History of Wrong Guys was fantastic. As were all of her scenes with Charlie in act 2!
For me though, without a doubt the standout was Paul Ayres as u/s Charlie. As a fan of Killian I was looking forward to seeing him, but he was still off after the accident a few nights before. Some fans in the dayseat queue warned that Paul wasn't as likable, but I couldn't agree less. I honesty can't imagine the role being played any better. I loved everything, his characterization, his likability, his moments of comedy which felt natural, his chemistry with every other character, and mostly his voice which was faultless and just overall pleasing to listen too. Looking at his bio I'm surprised I've not seen him anywhere else but I'd definitely be interested in seeing him elsewhere based on this vocal performance along. I'm surprised by how rant-y this post is, but really, he was fantastic!
Sadly though, I don't think I'd see this show again unless someone I really loved were to go into the cast. It was, in my opinion, just okay. Such a shame.
That being said, I would be interested in a UK cast album. Any news on if that's happening? I've lost track!

Saw this tonight and really enjoyed it. Thought the story felt a bit flat and some of the songs sounded very samey, but I didn't go in expecting it to be fantastic and so was pleasantly surprised. The title song was brill. And I liked If Mountains Were Easy To Climb. some other songs were also good though I can't remember them now. Cast I thought was very good, although the guy playing Vivian (I should really get my programme out and check names) was not blessed with the most thrilling songs and they did all tend to merge into one.
I thought the story lacked a real gut punch moment (although the end of act 1 was quite striking) which I think is my main quibble with it.The nudity isn't made a big deal of, it's done tastefully and although it's full frontal it never feels shocking or rude.
I must agree though that the misogyny on here displayed by a couple of members is quite disheartening, as I thought every one of the women looked very much like normal women, and every one of them was beautiful. Emma Williams is so lovely, her voice was beautiful and she had a couple of great songs.
I liked this, although really it was nothing special and I can't see myself returning to see it again, but it did make for a nice evening out.

Saw this on Broadway last week and I must say I was disappointed. I love the film, the cast were great and yet it felt like it was missing so much. Some parts were wildly ott and melodramatic, which didn't work. 'Jokes' fell flat, most of the songs were just okay, but felt too modern and the end reveal came almost out of nowhere. On the plus side, the costumes looked great and the finale was quite amazing. But overall it felt too American and way too modern too. Id give it a 3/5. Sad as I was very much looking forward to it. Still, I'd probably give it a second chance if it transferred.

Saw this tonight. Very different to what I was expecting but I loved it. Outrageous and hilarious but surprisingly touching. Harry Melling was superb. I'll definitely be recommending this to everyone. Act 2 took so many turns I wasn't expecting. Not quite as laugh out loud funny as I though it would be, but brilliant nonetheless.

If its an amateur production then it's certainly an expensive one! £44 top price.

But that's exactly what stagey is saying, isn't it? I guess by "name" she means name of the show, and not some "star". Oh I seeeeeee! Sorry Yes, exactly that, the name of the show! Sorry, should've been more specific!

The casting is so low rent. Clearly anyone will do! They should have just stuck with the WYP cast (except of course now Jon Robyns is doing Legally Blonde). Not only is all this cast switching around nonsense really confusing to follow, it's also just incredibly dull. The show sold in Leeds on the name alone and should do on tour as well. It's a great family show, I can't for the life of me think why kids would really care if they're seeing one random (probably ex soap-)star or another, and honestly, do parents either? I have to say, however much I enjoyed this production, I'm now not really sure I'll bother with it on tour.

Wicked does need some fresh blood in the cast so I am hopefully there is a big cast change this year. Who would everyone like to see take the roles of Elphaba and Glinda? And I'm meaning actresses who haven't played them before, since I know a lot of us have firm favourites who we wish would return. Glinda: Katie hall Celinde Schoenmaker Julie atherton Elphaba Sabrina aloueche Rachel john Alice fearn Nessa- Lauren Samuels Fiyero/ Anton zerterholm Richard fleeshman These are EXACTLY my choices for the main 3! I always thought Katie and Rachel and Anton would be a great combo. Richard Fleeshman is a nice choice too. I'd love to hear Rosalie as Elphaba though, how fab! And lily Frazer in a couple of years!

Hayley was my first Elphaba and I loved her. Admittedly she definitely didn't have the strongest vocals (at least not at the performance I saw) but I absolutely loved her. Especially her Wizard And I! Don't remember much about her acting but thought she was fine I guess, as I don't remember thinking anything negative.

My friend was the one who submitted that report! We were fine but ended up (we were a group of 6) with two people in the grand circle loges (which were very restricted, we all swapped round in the interval.) but the people behind us weren't so lucky. There was a full house (at the matinee). When you say the GC loges were very restricted, how bad were they? I'm in one for the final show, it was the only seat available when I booked I mean, they weren't terrible, but oh my gosh did by back hurt by the end of the act! If you sat in it straight and didn't lean over the rail then the seats face literally the wall on the other side of the theatre. But the view was alright (except clipping off a bit of the side of the stage that I couldn't lean far enough to see.). I think they'll be fine for you, but they weren't the greatest.

Is this cast change news official. I want to book if Rachel John will be in the cast, but otherwise I'm not really interested. I live in Canterbury where the run is pretty much sold out, so deffo will need to make a move if it's official.

By 7.30am there were 25 today, I was told. I'm guessing you were there and it's too late now. They just try and sell what they can - depends on how busy there are on price, it seems on previous reports I've had. So, what happened? My friend was the one who submitted that report! We were fine but ended up (we were a group of 6) with two people in the grand circle loges (which were very restricted, we all swapped round in the interval.) but the people behind us weren't so lucky. There was a full house (at the matinee). The show was fabulous though. I really didn't love it the first time round but this time I was honestly crying for about nine tenths of gthe show. Richard Carson was hugely likeable and age apropriate as Chris and Sooha Kim was just wonderful as Kim. I LOVED her. We also had Aaron Lee Lambert as John who was good, and certainly didn't riff as much as John Maynard. Overall, a fantastic show. I'd definitely see it again if I had the time (which sadly I don't).

It's very different fro the Palladium production, and definitely not as grand in scale. But I really, really enjoyed it. Yes the projections didn't really work as effectively as others, and there were a few minor changes in details, but overall I thought it was great.

I think he's a very talented an versatile performer, and I'm actually very excited that we get him over here, though whether or not he suits the role remains to be seen ( I agree that he wouldn't have been a name that sprung to my mind, but I trust the casting directors, and Andy Karl based on his previous work). Excited for this now though!

I adore the original production, everything about it was great from the cast to the promotional stuff to the puppet design (I agree there is a stark difference) however, having seem multiple versions of the show now I think that really it's worth catching in any form. Plus I hear the cast is fab (though I've not seen this tour yet)

Do they sell other unsold tickets to those in the queue at dayseat prices after the dayseats have been sold? Looking at the trains the earliest I can get there is 7:30 really.
I promise I'll stop asking about dayseats now. I have a friend coming up and I don't want to give her unrealistic expectations.
