New casting. Interesting, but not sure they’ll shift tickets.

Was there tonight and enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would having gone in with relatively low expectations following the reviews and comments on a certain message board. I haven't seen the movie for years but thought this worked well.
I actually liked the score for the most part, but could certainly do with some more standout moments. That said, it was a stronger score than some other recent stage to screen adaptations (Doubtfire, Pretty Woman, Back to the Future).
Cast were fantastic, especially Taylor Iman Jones. Beth Leavel is extremely underused. Loved Javier Munoz.
I think with a bit of work it will be ready for Broadway. Hopefully they will use the time to make some changes and bring it in the spring. I can also see this being the sort of show that London would lap up (a la Pretty Woman), only a matter of time.

Is it just me but is this the score to this (and Sister Act) consistently weak throughout? The odd good song but a lot of padding Oh I'd argue it's just you, at least half of this score is stone cold bangers! I really didn't rate the show (or score) when I first saw it in New York. That said, the score has grown on me and it really does have some bangers!

As wonderful as it was in Chichester. The four leads are sublime, the vocals are quite stunning. Wouldn’t be surprised to see four acting nominees (and potentially a win or two) at the Oliviers. Ovendon and Beck deserve to win Oliviers for this. Who are the other 2? R Houchon and J Ampill? They aren’t award worthy roles IMO I mean, neither is the Bird woman, but the Oliviers still went there. There’s very little else to choose from in all honesty so far this year.

Been told something which backs this up and that we should expect it at the Almeida in the Spring of next year, with a high profile commercial producer attached.

Is this due a cast change? Am I right in thinking the leads have been in for 2 and a half years? I wonder if whoever goes in next will be taking it on tour. Aimie Atkinson and Danny Mac are confirmed in it until 13th November. Really, it's only been just over a year. It played for a month at the Piccadilly before Covid closures and then reopened on 8th July 2021.

The standard of new plays since the re-opening has been dreadful. The poor audiences are largely deserved. Cabaret is a top quality show now Eddie Redmayne isn't in it but what else has there been? Disappointing plays from James Graham, Peter Morgan and Florian Zeller who are top tier on track record. It's not a good sign that the best production of a play has been Jerusalem which is an unfrozen production from over a decade ago. London theatre is a bit in the doldrums unfortunately, post covid. New play announcements or indeed any new show announcements in the West End are very thin on the ground these days. Producers are taking a hammering and the economic outlook is bleak. The tide will turn eventually. Hmm I'm inclined to disagree here. The reason there's been a lack of new West End show announcements is that a lot of shows were open-ended runs so there was next to no opportunity for shows to come in. Look how quickly the Gillian Lynne got filled after Cinderella posted a closing notice. Same can be said for the Noel Coward with Best of Enemies going in after, and the rumoured Oklahoma following Life of Pi at Wyndham's. I'm sure there will be announcements for the Garrick, Phoenix and Prince Edward before long too.

Bill Pullman, surely? Bill Murray was offered Mad House, but is waiting for the musical version of Lost in Translation. 🙂 That’s the one 😂

Saw this yesterday and thought it was really great! The music in particular is fantastic. What’s more is it’s genuinely funny, but also very touching at times. I loved the characters - they all seemed so familiar to those who’ve been on the programme. "I'd never be me without you" a particular standout - very much reminded me of “You’re timeless to me”
And the cast! Wow. If you’re gonna do a two week production and star the best of the West End then this is how to do it. Everyone was perfect.
If you liked shows like The Girls and The Band, then you’ll love this! I have no doubt this will be back again.

New Musicals - I think only 101 Dalmatians and Bonnie and Clyde eligible up to now that have opened!! Curious how Mandela will be, and still Band's Visit and some other potential transfers to come in (if Operation Mincemeat comes in they will have a great shot!) Revival - I think this one will be between South Pacific and Oklahoma, and that these two will also dominate the acting noms.
Best Play - Still sticking with Mockingbird to win. Prima Facie, Patriots, Mad House, Dolls House P2 for nominees. Revival - Cock, The Corn is Green Best Actress - Jodie Comer to win (other potential nominees - Noma Dumezweni, Nicola Walker, Anne Marie Duff) Best Actor - Hard one. David Harbour, Wil Johnson, Rafe Spall and Tom Hollander all potential nominees Featured Actor - Bill Murray for a nomination (Mad House) Featured Actress - Noms for Akiya Henry and June Watson (Mad House and Dolls House P2)
Edit to add: More to come in before the cut-off hopefully with new shows for Phoenix, Prince Edward, Lyric, Garrick, Ambassadors, and whatever plays @sohoplace

Surprised at this one, thought it was selling pretty well. Will do very well on tour I imagine, and it's a nice long closing period so they can hopefully do some bumper business to the end of their run.

Was there tonight and thought it was fun - total nonsense but fun all the less. It sounded fantastic and no problems hearing lyrics so definitely tightened up. A cover was on for Jan the Unnamed on book - didn’t affect the show I didn’t think though. Stephen Lewis-Johnston singing “I'll Change the World Around Her“ a definite highlight. Great song and he has a fantastic voice. Yesterday, when I was in for "Tasting Notes," I saw a sign saying Sarah Slimani was off as Jan the Unnamed, which is a shame, as I loved her voice and attitude. On the other hand, the sign said that Jan the Unnamed would be played by the director, Benji Sperring, which I would have loved to see as well lol! Unless things changed in a day, you probably saw the director play the part. Yep, that was him! Well done to him, he did really well!

I saw at Tveit/Olivo and Tveit/Loren. Both great matches, but gotta say Ashley Loren WELL deserved that promotion to main, she was stunning.

Was also at the (sparsely attended) matinee. I agree with much of what you say, although feel I may have liked the music a bit more than you - the lyrics were pretty poor in places though. The format works for sure, although some sections were definitely a bit bloated (the second telling of the wannabee actress in particular), and I found the ending a bit frustrating. I'll agree though it was never boring, certainly kept me engaged.

]In Anything Goes, she seemed to be enjoying herself. Her vocals were under-powered (I expected far greater volume and far ‘bigger’ singing like LuPone and Paige in the role), but her dancing and overall performance were very engaging. Saw the show tonight - I’ll agree with you that her vocals were underpowered at times but her overall performance and especially dancing was really impressive. The show is in safe hands and the audience loved it.

I did think it was very ambitious to run this for so long without Beverley. A really lovely show though. Curious what will be in the Garrick next - certainly not my favourite theatre.

but would love any recommendations of other good musicals, plays, especially Off-Broadway stuff I highly recommend Titanique off-Broadway if you're a Celine and/or Titanic fan. I found it absolutely hilarious. They also do a 5pm Saturday and also a Sunday evening show. Discount codes available on Playbill/Broadwaybox and also on Todaytix. titaniquemusical.com/

Going to London Sunday whats the chance of getting 4 days seats ? Or any other ideas for cheap tickets 👍🎶 Dayseats sold online at 10:30am for £30. Can buy 2 per person - should be easy enough to get but you’ll need two people to purchase 2 each www.delfontmackintosh.co.uk/whats-on/mary-poppins/day-seats

I saw the matinee today and it was fun and cute, but nothing deeper than that. It’s also VERY American humour, and aimed at a much older audience. Quite a bit went right over my head.
I absolutely loved Shoshana, her number at the top of act two will become a very popular number outside of the show id guess (Maybe it starts with me)

Just a thought, maybe they needed to wait for an actual performance to happen before they were able to sue? And that’s why it’s taken so long.

Yes I’m surprised this hasn’t happened sooner. It’s one thing to have a parody and a likeness but this definitely seems to be getting way bigger than was probably ever originally intended. Curious to see what happens.

I quite liked this tonight. Wasn't so sure after act one (especially on Cruella), but act two is much stronger. Lovely score from Douglas Hodge and a really enjoyable production.
