Very good Sunday at Mountview.
Would have liked a slightly fuller orchestra and a couple of different directional choices but still very much enjoyed.

I’ve still not got over the awful Regent’s Park production. Even Jo Riding didn’t save that one for me It made some interesting decisions - I didn't hate the relocation if I'm honest, but having the greatest duet in musical theatre history BELTED was quite simply offensive... Through no fault of Carly Bawden's I should add - she would make the most beautiful Julie in a traditional Carousel.

2:22 as we've already highlighted is a rubbish play. It would not be running if it wasn't for celebs. Jobbing West End actresses won't get this gig because this gig doesn't exist without famous people in it...

And Cheryl wasn't trolling us?
This knows what it is (nonsense) and plays to it - if people are daft enough to give it money, good luck to them 😂

Stacey Dooley as Jenny. Get ready for lots of sympathetic nodding . No worse than some of the other people who've done it

The issue with the Pinter (like the Duke of Yorks) is that the restricted view seats are REALLY bad, so you end up having to pay top dollar in the hope of actually seeing anything.

Pinter or Duke of Yorks - vaguely remember DT saying in that interview Autumn, which would suggest it might follow Romeo and Juliet into the DOY

Having Patricia Routledge in 2019 at Cadogan was fine as there was a reason for it, but I'd be annoyed if that happened here.
And yes, Bradley Jaden would have been much better suited to Billy.

And in a venue which (as far as I know) these producers haven’t used before So I’d expect the sound to be even worse as they won’t have a clue what they’re at Oh I hadn't even clocked this - an excellent point, god help us.

Head to the Bare thread for the horror stories.
They are hit and miss, as a large number of these concerts producers are (apart from Fourth Wall I'd argue), and I'm very bored of having to hedge my bets on whether they are going to be hit (Side Show and JRB) or miss (Diana and Bare being the prime examples)
They seem to be completely unable to handle sound when more than 2 people are singing at once, and this is one of the best scores ever written so...I'd like to be able to hear it - too much to ask?

Lambert Jackson producing Jamie Muscato, Christine Allado and Rebecca Caine as Billy, Julie and Nettie.
How depressing the greatest score of all time is in the hands of people who can't do sound for sh*t.

Glad to be resting Wilmot, wish we were also resting Zerdin.
Very in for Clary and McDonald - what a camp riot this will be, backed by some of MTs finest young stars.

If it is Hugh Jackman then it will probably sell out during the pre-sale. It's not.

I think what's happened here is exactly how I feel about the state of London theatre in general. New work like Opening Night that is (in my eyes) bold and fresh can't succeed and we have to endure rubbish like 2:22 and Heathers until the end of time. Opening Night IS rubbish though. And it tortures its audience. I hated 2:22, but clearly some people like it- so would rather that does 2 months at this theatre than letting the misery of ON carry on. I would bet the cast feel the same, they must be desperate for the exit If you swapped the positioning of Opening Night and 2:22 over in your reply, youd have my exact feelings (although i didn't hate Opening Night!)

True - choreography by Ellen Kane (eh) and a composer might suggest play with music though.

Have a feeling this might need to move to musicals based on what I'd already heard - the debate of 'musical or play with music' starts here

Do we think this show will be a tough ticket? Lord no. Its not like anyone announced to be in it so far is a famous which is how previous revivals have worked. This'll be a doddle to get tickets for.

Oh yeah! Russ closed it according to a Google I cannot remember when I saw it, but I had Neil Morissey as Fagin (yes, Bob the Builder-jokes were made) and Samantha Barks as Nancy. Touring version of the Drury lane production

Was that off the back of “Search for a Nancy” or whatever the BBC program was called? It was Jody Prenger but I saw Kerry Ellis too. I think it was Rowan Atkinson? Unless I’m getting my productions confused. Kerry replaced Jodie. It was Rowen first, then Omid took over. Can't remember if someone followed him or if he was the last Griff Rhys Jones definitely did it at some point, and I vaguely remember Russ Abbot did too (possible I'm making the last one up)

Drury lane has something in Nov-Jan though and it's not exciting, so whatever the cool thing is isn't until Feb at the earliest? Hasn't someone already mentioned it's Elf? Oh, well yes it's that.

This does sound worse with every new bit of info that comes out about it Is it just Kym Marsh you don't like or is it the show generally? Oh I have nothing against kym marsh personally, but all the feedback from 2022 was...not great, the modernisation is entirely unnecessary, and now throwing in a stunt cast of this type just makes it feel like panto rather than a musical
