A girl on my train home had just seen this, and said there was a huge queue of people trying to get a refund by the end - surely not! Well the box office go home at 8 so definitely seems unlikely.

The Girls sold infinitely more tickets when they changed the name to Calendar Girls The Musical... Can you share the box office receipts before and after renaming please? Certainly, it lasted less than 6 months in the West End and was on seat filler constantly, and it did a 2 year UK tour mostly sold out at venues on the road 🙂

To her credit, Freema was in New Amsterdam on American TV which can sign you up for 7 years at the off (I think she did 4 and then it ended) - she was good in it.

But a big QDOS panto runs for 4-5 weeks, does 12 shows a week, and is usually about 2.5 hours long. People do that every year and are fine (albeit needing a holiday afterwards!)
I'm not saying I agree with it, but we've been doing this for a while now - and I think theyre probably safe to give it less than 100% at a Tuesday 2pm show if they need to personally.

according to the presale, they’re doing 12 show weeks which is… insane I mean it IS, but also Panto does this for 4 weeks every year so...it's not uncommon

Sheridan has been very vocal throughout the press for this that there is support available for her when she needs it.

Do not get Grace Mouat as Karen at all. It’s a great comedic role Hard agree - I fully expected her to be in this, but as someone else surely. Janis?

I understand many criticisms of this show, really I do, but for All That Dazzles to say Ivo Van Hove has (and I quote) "a severe lack of understanding for theatre and its connectivity in general" is objectively hilarious.

Standing ovations are not a barometer for whether things are good anymore I'm afraid - we literally stand for any old rubbish.
And in fairness, most people who stood around me were getting their things together and heading for the exit 😂

Gotta find people happy to work for less than equity minimum on a very physically demanding show and schedule (the schedule is...wild)

It's not so much that, lots of us know people who know stuff is all. The wider public have no idea.

I think critics will be intelligent enough to know that Van Hove has been doing this for well over a decade and won't make this incorrect assumption.
Bloggers, I'm less convinced by but let's see.

Sorry to make this point again but Ivo Van Hove has not copied Sunset Boulevard with the camera stuff!
Did none of you see Network?! Or All About Eve?! 😂 Michelle Dockery literally started a scene on the railing of the Southbank, came through the passdoor and onto the Lyttleton stage - he did it before anyone else did

Or maybe they'll say they like it because...they like it? I'd sooner a reviewer told me what they actually thought rather than trying to earn a day pass to Pseuds Corner. It's fine by me they like it. If they pretend to… eh, not so much. Sure, but maybe they actually like it, as some people (albeit a minority) actually do? I don't get the take that 'if you like it you're just saying it for clout'

Naturally, there will be those critics who say they like it in order to appear clever. It is a somewhat avant garde piece which is an excellent opportunity for them to remind the public that they "get it" so much more than we do... Or maybe they'll say they like it because...they like it?

Not right for Nigel in my eyes, but interested to see if the characters been altered so that he works.

I simply can't put into words how awful this was.
The talent attached to this (minus Todrick who simply should be banned from musicals) was obscene and they're handed THIS turkey?
I get it must have been a nice gig for a fortnight but EESH!

I think Elle is their best shot at a win personally - for me supporting actress is the least competitive of the musical categories and thus Elle has the clearest shot.

They keep saying this is sold out but...there are literally tickets available on the website? I'm been getting £15 seat-filling emails about this for over a week, most recently at lunchtime today... They've just made the back row of the balcony £16 on the website so it's evidently not sold out... Looking forward to it tonight though!
