Certain contributors to this thread are known to cast members and they find it creepy, sure, but a lot of them also relate to some of the superfans because some of them used to be superfans themselves. They knew what they were getting into - it’s only harmful when a line is crossed, and it rarely is. For example, Nutella-gate is bloody creepy but no lines were crossed IMO.

You and Me (But Mostly Me) from BoM takes the mick of Wicked too. ‘Something incredible’ is the unlimited section from W&I and at the end, ‘but mostly..me!” is a mimic of the end of Defying Gravity.

Yup, London is the same. She wears the costume with the flat-ish cap. If you ever saw a show with KRJ I’m very surprised you didn’t notice the Ozian looking furious yet bored - I don’t think she was too happy about having to be on stage for that bit.

Seeing the show again tomorrow. Haven’t been following the thread, am I likely to see Amber or Marisha? I have seen both and prefer Marisha...just curious to know who is on!

Oh come on now. This show doesn’t even use click tracks for ensemble vocals let alone the end of defying gravity. The show has been open in London for 11 years, why would they start now? With someone as vocally solid and of sound technique as Alice. I would bet a large sum of money on the fact it’s NOT pre-recorded.

If I remember correctly (it was 9 years ago) Dianne Pilkington let Cassidy Janson take a solo bow the last time she was on for Elphaba. Wait..9 years..! I was at that show and the fact it was 9 years ago gives me the sweats...

However, at this early preview, I just thought it reminded me of an end of term college production or a drama school showcase at times though. The cast "performing" a little too much rather then just being part of the tribe! Hopefully they will relax a little more as the run progresses and loosen up a little. I’m so glad it wasn’t *just me that thought this! the nudity is brief, backlit with the cast huddled in a tight group at the far end of the stage. Again the best seats have to be in the red zone which are either side of the stage. Blink and you will miss it!! I think they handled this really well, it’s still a beautiful part of the show (it actually had me in tears) - the vulnerable honesty of the tribe was definitely portrayed, it wasn’t just a bunch of people getting their kit off.

£200?! Seriously?! Those seats better come with a programme, champagne, private entrance, foot rub from a cast member and a four-course meal...!!!!

Went to the first preview last night - didn't actually know that it was the first preview until I got there!
Some thoughts - the wigs and costumes are of really good quality, they didn't blindingly try to save money on production or costumes etc which is good. I think it's clear the budget was big.
Cast are very talented - I adore the voice of Natalie Green who seemed to do all the singing. Shekinah Mcfarlane was a fabulously sassy Dionne who I couldn't take my eyes off. Jessie May as Jeannie was just wonderful, lovely voice and charming characterisation. I liked Andy Coxon but he was a little too light and campy for me, I prefer a messy, more manly Berger but Andy did a great job steering the show.
For me the only real criticism lie in the fact that they didn't abridge ANY of it - unlike the 2009 Bway revival which took a lot out - some of the references don't land with a 2017 audience (even when half of them knew ALL the words and were singing along..very cute). I liked how they made the piece relevant with audio clips of Trump etc, but specific parts could have done with being chopped.
Finally, it would have been SO nice to just see them enjoy it. They were definitely 'acting' and it would have been very nice just to see them think less about the complex choreographed dance routines (not my favourite thing in a show like this....) and just feel the music more. The music is ENERGETIC and infectious - and whilst they certainly had energy, it felt a tad disconnected and forced. These are harsh words from me for a first preview so I look forward to going back in a few weeks and seeing how they've settled into the space.

Oops sorry yes I didn't make that clear, I was asking if anyone knew the last time Carina went on. I can hear my university lecturers in my head telling me to be more specific........ I will never learn!

I'm really curious about what is happening with Jessamy. She initially told people that she was staying on as understudy Elphaba and her sudden departure made us all think she was a shoe in for the tour. I guess she didn't enjoy Wicked all that much! Not necessarily always the actors' choice....

Am I the only one who was ever so spightly underwhelmed by Bradley? I know alot of people were really bigging him up prior to the cast change, so I was expecting him to be incredible. And whilst he was great, really in my top 3, he wasn't as good as his predecessor in my opinion so I was left slightly underwhelmed by him based on what I had heard prior to seeing him. I'm with you there danieljohnson14 - don't get why people are swooning over him either. He's a good looking chap but don't think he's the most attractive Fiyero we've had... For me nobody will come close to Oli T. Incredible voice, riffs beyond belief executed perfectly and so very easy on the eye.

The tickets only sold out because they only did one release - so not all seats went on sale initially. It's a basic sales tactic to build buzz and excitement.
I have to say, people that aren't big on theatre that I know have no idea what the show is and are not bothered by the concept if I tell them about it. The whole significance of the show being played by a non-white cast will not resonate with a lot of the audience members. Most of them won't know the story before attending the show so won't understand lots of the references (i.e. "John Adams doesn't have a real job anyway" is the first that springs to mind).
My predication is that the show will be a HUGE hit then a hard sell.

if there's only one understudy who double up for another (e.g. Zoe/Alana), what happens if both leads are out at the same time? The team do everything in their power for this NOT to happen - I might be wrong but I'm 99% sure Mamma Mia only has one understudy for all 3 dads? It's incredibly rare for two leads to be off at the same time, the producers do everything in their power to prevent this happening. Not sure what happens when it DOES happen though!!!

I'm sorry, but that is a ridiculous thing to say. An opinion is an opinion - whether it's positive or negative is an individual feeling and that's that. And both positive and negative opinions can be and are explained and reasoned. To allege that people who have a negative opinion about something have somehow calculated that as they think it makes them look clever is frankly quite offensive as you're basically calling us all liars. My opinions, whether positive or negative, are just that - the truth about how I actually feel about something. I also think you're wrong to generalise about "a generation of fans" - there always have been and still are a small group of obsessives who think anything is "best ever", but they've always been the minority. Sorry you found my words offensive - it wasn't supposed to be, I was merely saying that judgements are quickly formed here and people like to have an opinion - and they are often negative - the original poster said he trusted opinions on this thread, and my response was essentially saying to take each one with a pinch of salt. It wasn't supposed to be offensive because it was just the way I had interpreted things on this thread. As someone pointed out, your response is quite ironic - as it depicted the way you reacted to me reacting to something. No hard feelings, we are adults, we have opinions and we react & respond differently! :-)

I have to say deej4life - in regards to trusting opinions - in my opinion, it seems that people on this forum are generally very negative and prefer to have a negative opinion on something as it tends to show they have properly analysed something and formed an opinion, through want of not being part of the generation of fans that say "omg best ever" to every show and performer.

My friend who was in the previous London cast told me again who the new glinda is (same name I had heard from elsewhere) and that it will be announced next week.

Blimey..when I met Idina after the show in 2006, there were barriers then but only because of volume of people. When she came out I was a quivering wreck, burst into tears and could barely string a sentence together. Maybe it was because it was 1am on a cold, rainy December morning....😜

I went to Diane's first official show, really liked her. Then as she progressed, her ridiculous Glinda voice got more and more annoying and I couldn't stand it. Cassidy Janson and Sarah Earnshaw were the standbys at the time, and these two were (and still are to this day) my favourite pairing and Elphaba & Glinda respectively. By the end of their contracts I had grown tired of Kerry and Diane, much like they had grown tired of their roles.
Rachel and Louise marked a new era of Wicked - I don't know how to describe it but it felt so very fresh, almost like a new show completely. I think it helped that we had new standbys as well, I LOVED Hayley Gallivan.
Louise is still, in my opinion, the best & most consistent Glinda London has had. I loved her Elphaba but she was less consistent as Elphaba (it always made me wince with worry whether or not she'd hit the big notes).
Personally, I've never had a golden era - I've been consistently watching the show since previews, and every cast has brought something different, every cast has brought a different feel. I think the current cast is the most fresh we've had since Rachel & Louise started. The returns of Kerry, Rachel and Willemijn were phenomenal (some more than others) but they were not fresh.

Really wish I could have seen this fake cast picture. Is it still doing the rounds anywhere? tried to save it but couldn't, I should've taken a screenshot. There were 4, all taken from the wings - glinda in her bubble, Glinda and students in Shiz scene, end of DTL when Elphaba, Glinda and Fiyero are in the middle of all the students, and an incredible DG shot. Unsure why they took them down as it was very hard to make out any faces.....

I actually think he's done nothing wrong, you lot love to jump on him whenever you can! Who gives a flying monkey if she was ill or tired?
On a side note, when I saw the show last week I didn't think I she was doing anything unmanageable with her performance. It sounded easy for her.

madame Morrible sounded right - but she does look very young compared to what we have come to expect. Miss Honey gone bad. And the winner goes to..... Hilarious. And accurate IMO!

I love the spectacle of the show, the music and the story - it all comes together in a fantastic bundle. But that said, whilst I could literally watch & listen to Defying Gravity on loop, for me it's about seeing different actresses tell the story. If you look at my list I've seen it 24 times with 12 different Elphabi. I won't go back week after week, but aim to catch each cast to see a different take on the role - and there have been some amazing ones and some not so good ones.... This is exactly the same as me - I have seen it 57 times over 11 years, my first show was when I was 11 years old on 23rd September 2006 matinee. I wasn't obsessed growing up, it's been part of my life since I was 11 and going back time after time in my teenage years just means I still go back now to see new casts and their understudies. At one stage I loved the social more than anything, I had lots of crazy fan friends so went with them - others I went specifically to see a new cast member. I haven't been specifically for the show since 2006 really.

Melanie La Barrie as Morrible being the obvious stand-out. I don't think I've ever seen a Horrible with such disdain for Glinda. Quick Question, I wonder if anyone can shed some light on, I seem to remember Morrible having more costumes, wasn't there a light green one she wears when we first meet her in The Emerald City? Am I looking into this too much? Susan Hilferty re-thought the costuming for a black skin tone when Sheryl Lee Ralph played Morrible earlier this year on Broadway, including designing a new costume with a different shade of green. So no you didn't imagine this!! Good spot 👍🏼👍🏼
