Went last Wednesday with a group of Theatre undergrads! We enjoyed aspects of it but the general concensus seemed to be it wasn't gripping enough and certain elements didn't work (e.g the trabnsitions and the ending).

Stritch's rendition of I'm Still Here at Sondheim's Birthday concert in 2010 is always the best!

I don't think either Ronan or Robbie deserved any kind of nomination for that film. Granted it looks gorgeous but seriously it's like an extended episode of 'Hollyoaks' with long frocks. I sort of agree with you on the hollyoaks front SPOILER ALERT I thought the film would have been much better if it were not for the soap opera esc, completely inaccurate and unrealistic gay story line they tried to shoe-horn in, in order to make the film more topical or modern, i suppose? It really dampened the whole thing and took me and my friends out of the movie.

Saw Mary, Queen of Scots the other week, very mixed opinions. It 100 percent deserves the two noms for hair/makeup and costume design! However Margot gives a breathtaking, human and really original take on the iconic role of Elizabeth I, she freaky dedicates and transforms into that role. I thin kshe deserved a nomination in best supporting actress! She got one for the BAFTAs.

Love them to do an Evita, ALW's best show in my opinion, and I feel like it could be really politically apt considering the current US climate, perfect space in the Vivian Beaumont!

Caught a matinee of this today at the Wycombe Swan, FABulous, the cast were great, the production quality was amazing, and I have to say the Evita understudy Katie Sherman was exquisite, breathtaking performance, I shead a few tears during the finale, standing ovations! Go catch it, it's very reasonably priced especially for matinee's!

Hiya, going to see wicked for the third time in a few weeks for my sister's birthday, just wondering what the cast is like, as in my experiences wicked casting can be very hit or miss, the last Glinda and Elphaba duo i saw were exquisite, Savannah Stevenson and Emma Hatton two years ago now! Has anyone seen the recent cast and if so what did you all think?

Moving on...what do we think of the new category for next week, people? It is I think a choice between contemporary, theatre style and street? Or maybe someone caught the categories better.. I don’t mind opening out to get more people interested and I like a good contemporary dance but it does knock another nail into ballroom doesn’t it? I think it's fabulous, adding a welcome variety and intrigue to the show, musical week will be very interesting this year.

So thrilled to see the palladium panto again, my family went last holiday season, without a doubt the best panto and one of the funniest shows i've ever seen (it sure beats the Wycombe and Windsor and Kilburn ones ). Julian Clary will likely be as hysterical as evrr and can't a wait to see Dawn Frech (longtime fan),Charlie Stemp is always a win and i'm sure Danielle will great and you gotta love Nigel!

Cannot believe the adulterers were saved by the public, this is why we're the nation who voted for Brexit, terrible decision making....

I recently saw the limited run of Lincoln Centre's production of The King and I and twas breathtaking, had fantastic seats at the back of the stallsof the palladium, perfect view and good price, £25, huge leg room BTW (twas for my mum's birthday).I am slightly biased because Rodgers and Hammerstein are two of my favourite writers across the board let alone just for theatre! However this production was requisite, the set was beautiful, grand and comprised of authentic Thai inspired designs, the cast were terrific, Kelli O'Hara was a revelation, bringing new emotional depth and perceptive use of expression in a role as iconic in the modern theatre as Anna. Ken Wattanabe and the supporting cast delivered in spades too, in terms of acting, singing and dacing (Christopher Gattetelli's blend of traditional eastern Asian dance and ballet was flawless. Costume was meticulous, gorgeous fabrics, colours shapes, and period detail managing to bring glamour and the exotic nature of the piece whilst also being historically accurate and not overly glitzy.
Bartlett Sher's direction brought a wonderful realism to the piece and grounded it in an earnest, modern light, highlighting the themes of colonialism, sexism and east vs west.
Overall stunning, unfortunately the run just ended but it was fabulous and critically acclaimed both in New York and here, all 4 and 5 star reviews.

My only wish for the movie is for Megan Hilty to play Glinda, she is a seasoned pro at the show and the part and obviously has the vocal chops and range to pull Glinda off, and most importantly is a STELLAR actress and a lot of Glinda replacements tend to overact, she also has plenty of screen (and musical screen) experience headlining the hit NBC drama Smash for multiple seasons, Megan is genuine and naturalistic, whilst still ensuring that Glinda is a big character. As for the other roles I have no one in particular, don't get me wrong, I LOVE Anna Kendrick but I'm not sure if this is her role, she has the acting and singing skills, and although a vary agile voice and diverse repertoire of styles, I still feel even her belting range is not meaty or strong in timbre enough for Elphaba, although I think Cinderella in Into The Woods and also the Last Five Years suited her perfectly...Both were adaptations of theatre smashes!!!!!!
Samantha Barks is an interesting choice although I think she would have a lot of work stepping up to essentially the central and title role tha moulds the whole piece, Eponine was a principal but not nearly as central as Elphaba is in Wicked.
Meryl would obviously be amazing as Madame Morrible but I don't know if she would do another musical theatre (and fantasy one at that) adaptation to film so soon after playing the Witch in Into THe Woods...... I did see Imelda Staunton mentioned earlier would could potentially be magnificent!!!!!!

She is one of my favourite actresses and feel really lucky that I saw her in Gypsy. I love all her rolls like in that day we sang, pride and Harry Potter. I sadly did not see her in Sweeney Todd but from what I have listened to she was brilliant! So jealous, I only wish I could have seen her alongside Lara Pulver in Gypsy!

Hi all, I'm a New Yorker coming to the West End for the first time this September 8 - 11 (and very excited). Does anyone have some strong recommendations for shows to catch while I'm in the area? I see all the New York theater, so ideally nothing that plays or has played in NYC. Absolutely open to plays or musicals, just looking forward to getting a taste of the West End scene. Thanks in advance for your help! Definitely some Shakespeare, anywhere! There is so much more variety in the West End shakespeare wise than on Broadway! The Les Mis in London is the best production of that play in the world (besides cheaper than Broadway, much better than the revival!) Groundhog Day, limited run, unique, brilliant, probably not ever going to Broadway Funny Girl, FABULOUS, besides there hasn't been a production of it on Broadway for AGES! Go to the half price ticket booth in Leicester Square, some seats are like 15 pounds for great seats! I saw the woman in black a month ago and think it was terribly overrated! Open Air Theatre! Go, an imaginative new staging of Pride and Prejudice is on when you are there for a STRICTLY LIMITED RUN! Every thing else so far this summer there were suppose to be mind-boggling, fab, revolutionary theatre! Obviously if you were lucky enouph to win one of the Friday Draws on the website Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, no brainer, but unlikely! So many fab productions on in the West End right now, hope I helped! No Man's Land at the Wyndham's Theatre, a new period production starring the fabulous duo team of Ian Mckellen and Patrick Stewart........need I say more! The Mousetrap, fabulous Agatha Christie mystery has been running for about 65 years straight on the West End, good prices, and it is still going for a reason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bet his Hamlet happens. It's a terribly unimaginative role to want to play, but I'm sure he's said he wants to play it, and I'm sure there'll be directors and theatres lining up to facilitate it when the time comes. I don't know about Hamlet but I adored his portrayal as Henry V in the BBC adaptation in the Hollow Crown, would LOVE to see him try another tackling history character, like Richard II!

Hi all...... I heard through a friend that rumour has it Tom Hiddleston is returning to the West end for something? I assume a play, but I would love to see him as one of the princes from Into the Woods! But I have seen no proof of such a thing occurring....... My friend says it would be after he finishes filming Thor Ragnarok! Does any one have any facts or even speculations or hopes....please tell me! Thanks a billion . Sam......... My immediate thought on the Hedwig thread was that I would love to see Tom Hiddleston in the role and he would work well in it. Not sure if he can even remotely hold a tune though... I think he can as he sang his own songs for I saw the Light, and I've heard him singing....he's fab!

I know for a fact that the artsy Stage Adaptation of An American in Paris is on it's way to the West End for 2017 with original cast leads Robert Fairchild (London theatre scene debut) and Leanne Cope. It's sooo exciting! Hamilton too for 2017!
