They didn't really cast the film so much as film it at the last possible moment that the OBC principals were all still there. I don't think it's that she wishes she were in it but that the language were more precise. Well she could have said that a lot more clearly, calmly and simply. Though the cynic in me says that wouldn't have got half as much traction...

There were plenty of fans already pointing out that Elizabeth Judd and Hope Easterbrook are in the film but not the OBC. This was just an insider's cherry on top.

I think she's entitled to point out that it isn't the full OBC, but not to make the song and dance out of it that she has.
She chose to leave, but chose not to make that clear, and that's where I think she misjudged this.

Absolutely not, no. Really misguided to niggle about it. What’s Lin meant to say? The original Broadway cast apart from that woman that got tired and left? I'm sure when they were looking at casting for the film the first person on their list was the one who quit because she was so miserable... In her defence I have heard a lot of rumours about how horrible the original cast were to work with. They all got very famous very quickly and their egos went off the charts in a very negative way. I'm sure it wasn't the nicest situation to be in. Am I right in remembering there was some kind of incident with Leslie Odom Jr refusing to take part in the filming or leaving early or similar - and prolonged negotiations (presumably over money) to get him to be in the film? I got the sense there was no love lost over it between him and Lin-Manuel.

I got the sense there was no love lost over it between him and Lin-Manuel. I might be wrong but i thought the falling out was because the original cast wanted a percentage of the royalties, for their part in creating the hit show. The creative team, producers etc were all making money and i think the cast thought they deserved some too. They got it, too. www.bloomberg.com/features/2016-hamilton-broadway-profit/

If anyone is free this afternoon, the Royal Circle seats that are often £250 are now down to £37.50.

Do they usually discount by this much for on the day tickets? That's more than I've noticed before, but I think the demand for Hamilton is going down (which is one of the reasons they opened up bookings through third party sites as well). They are still selling a lot of premium seats, so it's obviously not doing badly by any stretch of the imagination, but there are deals to be had if you're flexible.

And, just posted: www.theensemblist.com/blog/2020/2/6/especially-the-dancersI don’t believe dancers or ensemble members are being explicitly targeted as the punching bag for Broadway, but that it is merely a way of thinking, engrained within the community, that ensemble members and especially dancers are less than. It is reflected in our paychecks. It is reflected in contract negotiations. It is reflected in casting choices. It is reflected in injury reports. It is reflected in rehearsal hours. It is reflected in conversation. It is reflected in the promotion of the Hamilton film. The ensemble are the people who have your back on stage when everything inevitably stops working. We can still be a swirling gorgeous hurricane with no turntable. We can be three people in one scene. We can move those sets. We can pick up that prop that broke during our next kick-ball-change. We can clean the dog piddle on center without being noticed while your lead is belting in a spotlight. The point is, the ensemble can do a lot, especially the dancers. Any exclusion of us, however small, by our own community, is a message to the fans and to future performers that ensemble members don’t really matter. We do.

Hope the leg room is better than the front row of the Royal... Only if you are in the back row. You do get about an inch more, but that's all. I was in Row E which had slightly more space than Row A (I'm 6'3 and Row A was one of the worst legroom experiences I've ever had)... In these 'premium' seats I at least had about an inch between my knees and the seats in front! But an excellent view and who can complain for £37.50. The latest cast is excellent and even at the matinee seemed to be on top form.

(I'm 6'3 and Row A was one of the worst legroom experiences I've ever had)... When I went, both couples either side of me were the same in row A. We ended up doing "A Chorus Line" shuffling in sync every 15 minutes so everyone could put legs slightly sideways at least. Was on painkillers for a week after. It's a slightly ridiculous situation in a refurbished theatre. I did send an email whinge about it (having paid £150+ to be in pain for 3 hours) but got no reply. I feel like there should at least be a warning on the seat plan.

Sat at the back of the grand circle and the view was pretty decent, I was surprised. The show was full of energy and the cast all seemed to put everything into the performance. Couldn't take my eyes off the stage for a second. The choreography was mesmerising and really clever in some scenes.

Suck it up Monkey, you’re a big boy.
Theres probably money to be made by offering favourable detailed seat reviews of every seat in exchange for a(n 80%) cut. Get your people to speak to his people.

Grand Circle Row A seat 13
‘Great for those who have already suffered a DVT or any lower limb amputees. Theres no lift but its an exhilarating crawl and you’ll get to take in the authentically restored decor and very reasonable merchandise. It’s a magnificent view once/if you get up there. You will be uniquely situated to brag while the rest of the patrons feel like sawing their own legs off after an hour. *****

An enjoyable show last night. First time I've seen Karl Queensborough in the lead role and he was much better than the two covers I've seen in recent performances.
Also, the first time I've seen this without any of the original cast still there in lead roles.
Two covers were on in lead roles (hence the none of the originals):
Jay Perry as Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson - didn't quite have the accents and some of the sound was a little muffled. Ashley Daniels as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton - I found this a hard casting choice to appreciate, particularly in the child role, just because he's bigger and older looking than the others.
Both perfectly serviceable though and it's always good to see covers.
Also, saw the smaller cover role of Jake Halsey-Jones as James Reynolds/Philip Schuyler (where he did perfectly fine).
I sat in the value seats in the slips again. The usual downside is you can see everyone on their phone in the Stalls.
A quiet crowd. No entrance applause for Karl and the slowest standing ovation I've ever seen there (although the Stalls were all up on their feet before the cast left the stage).
Enjoyed it, but don't know if I'll head back until cast change (unless a great ticket deal comes along).

I have heard this is so good but would you then recommend not going right because the cast is not so good? I don't normally go to musicals-I feel that if I go to one it has to be worth it! Do they often change cast and how do you find out?

I saw it the other week with the Nuno Queimado, the alternate Hamilton, on and he was fab! I think he's stronger in the role than Karl Queensborough, but of course that's just my opinion. I think it's definitely worth seeing if you can get a decent priced ticket, it is a strong cast (some more than others admittedly) but worth a risk.
Cast change is once a year, so next one will be November I think.

I saw Nuno Queimado as Hamilton a couple of Saturdays ago and he was honestly fantastic. I was worried that whoever I saw after Jamael wouldn't cut it due to having such big boots to fill it but it was still so so good. Jay Perry was on as Burr and I was very impressed by him. It did prove to me again that no one actor is bigger than the show.
I am yet to see Karl Queensborough as Ham but have tickets booked for May so hopefully I'll catch him then.

Thanks! I'll keep and eye on cheap (ish) seats, I don't want to spend more than £40! I've only ever sat in the £37 seats in the grand circle and they're a great view. Just be aware that anything from row H back will cut off the actors heads when they're on the balcony/walkway onstage. So if it's your first time seeing it, it's worth seeing if you can get a cheaper seat further forward.

thanks. I much prefer sitting closer to the stage than central and far away so I'll definitely do what you recommend!

Side stalls seats at £75 are good value (comparatively) and you miss very little. If you can’t get a £37.50 upper circle box seat I’d recommend spending more after a crippling visit in January.
