Danielle Steers' thread about the stage door was a really interesting read. I know exactly what she is referring to. I went to 42nd Street closing weekend and went to the stage door but it was very clear the others there were "superfans" who are there everyday. I stood back as I think it's rude if someone is having a conversation with a performer and others are practically stood on their toes listening in. However the same superfans were coming back again and again to have conversations with the same performers when there were other fans who hadn't been able/allowed to say one single word yet! I felt like I was intruding and had absolutely no right to be there. The show means the world to me but I very nearly did not even get to say a quick "thank you" and get a quick autograph, because others were completely monopolising the performers time (and their lunch break!) It was awkward to watch and also sad that stage door has moved so far from what it was, a quick signature and away. Nowadays there are so many people wanting a "chat" and some kind of incredible out-of-this-world memorable interaction, that your everyday fans of the show who just want their programme signed, have almost become a thing of the past. I saw plenty just give up and walk away. I ended up writing to one of the performers and told them how much this show meant to me and how it has inspired me beyond words. She sent back a beautiful letter and sent ME a thank you card. That meant the world. I imagine those are the kind of interactions the performers would prefer at stage door. People who might not have known what to expect from the show but who fell in love with it and just want to go to stage door with a kind of joyful exuberance and tell the performer how much they enjoyed themselves.
And most of the time, it's always about THEM rather than the performer.
I find it most unsavoury the depths celebrity culture and adoration has sunk to.

I guess the major thought is wondering whether these people also stand outside the staff entrance at their favourite supermarket at closing time, telling the staff as they emerge how wonderful they are and asking for selfies and to get their receipts signed? But these people aren't celebrities or names - therefore they automatically get put on some kind of pedestal. People living vicariously through them. *sigh*

I tend to agree actually, and 42nd Street is a good example of this. I too went on closing weekend and I couldn't believe the behaviour of some fans. I actually get pretty nervous waiting at stage door if it is busy as I can get a bit anxious in big crowds anyway, so I tend to stand a bit further away and wait patiently rather than get up front and personal. I don't think fans realise you don't have to be so persistant, if they have the time, they will come and chat to you. And that specific cast always made an active effort at stage door to chat to everyone so I was fairly shocked by some of the fans as they would know that and should respect that.

Wicked's Instagram has announced a "reveal" tomorrow. An image of Elphaba blurred out behind the post... I wonder?

Yeah I've just heard it's a photo of Alice. What a waste of time, like anyone gives a damn, bring on cast change.

This cast have actually had quite a lot in terms of advertising such as the new poster campaigns e.g. "are people born Wicked?" all over the tubes and buses.

No member of the general public will care there is a new photo.
Come on Wicked. Up your game!

I like it, Alice looks really good and the camera angle and lighting is spot on too. I imagine they probably took it around the same time they took the rest of Alice's pro-shots and just held it back so they'd be able to make the reveal of it a mini-thing. Some of you are overly cynical about this show and shoot down anything and everything the PR team / management do, I think it's a lovely idea to release a Defying Gravity pro-shot (which they rarely do for British Elphabas), it's made the fans happy and hopefully it'll permeate into normal people circles and sell an extra couple of tickets too.

Yeah I agree it's a bit of a stupid thing to make a big deal out of but it's a great photo.

I think it's a lovely idea to release a Defying Gravity pro-shot (which they rarely do for British Elphabas) Of course! But why make a big deal about it a few hours before, saying a reveal is happening? Just post it! Don't make us think something actually big and exciting is being announced.

I don't mind the photo, it's a great photo. It's just a waste of a big deal and also a waste of time for someone who will leave the show in July. The general public don't give a damn who plays Elphaba or Glinda unless it's someone famous anyway, which in this case, it isn't.

These new pictures are all so beautiful. I don't know who took them but I'm going to guess they went back to Matt Crockett as they don't seem to be Darren Bell's style.
Each to their own but I'd say this artwork is worth hyping with a pre-announcement. True, Joe Public doesn't care who the leads are, but the photos will hopefully create a buzz, plus there's something more special about seeing the women in the photos when you watch the show rather than "the women who joined the cast a few years after the women in the photos".
Yes, they are both leaving in 6 months (I assume) but I wouldn't have thought they got them in especially to do these, I imagine they took hundreds and hundreds when they did the initial ones and then any good ones get released gradually. I remember a Rachel and Gina pic surfacing a year or so back that Rachel said she'd never seen before and had never been released, so clearly they've got a lot in the bank.

I love these photos.
What a treat to see some originality and not the same old scenes redone to death

why all the new photos now? does this mean they stay for a third year???
if not, why now? does the new cast not get their own photos and have to live with these??

I doubt they will stay (hope they don't stay) another year. I think the best photo of the four is the letter one with Alice and Sophie, which I don't think we've seen before if I remember rightly. The more I look at the Defying Gravity one, the less a fan of it I am, I just think something about it doesn't read right, it kinda takes the magic away from it from that angle. Flying in Defying Gravity, the best image ever was the one of Willemijn in a close up of her flying. That's an amazing shot.

don’t like the photos with Sophie in the cornfield at all, she looks like Boris Becker in them 🤷🏻♀️

Sort of takes away the illusion.

hopefully it'll permeate into normal people circles and sell an extra couple of tickets too. These pics are not selling any ticket. Normal people won't care nor notice. What they need is a new, exciting trailer that doesn't look dated.

I also imagine the Wicked marketing team know what they're doing.

There's quite a lot of good marketing around London. There is a big screen above the departure boards at Victoria Station and Sophie and Alice posters down one of the exits. There were also lots of moving boards recently.
It's about time. Remember we have had ten years of just the "whisper" poster. When it's starting to just blend into the furniture you have to mix it up a bit, as they have done.

I did think at cast change there wasn’t many new pictures, even with much of the same cast we usually get new pictures each year but non apart from the ‘hat’ picture (which they said was new for the anniversary but was on the website a while before!)
I think the DG shot is a little odd! Like where are her feet and lower body? It looks like Alice is hidden in the huge curtain that hides the lift! I know this is the desired effect but it looks a little odd! I think it’s very hard to photograph DG personally, the shot of Rachel on Broadway in DG makes me cringe ... it looks so cheap as a still yet looks so amazing in person! Very wierd actually!
The rest are a really nice change ... did they just discover you can get a semi-interesting picture using the flowers from the corn field scene? 😂🙈
Also the FG note picture is nice, but I’m sure it’s been done before with Kerry in the very early days? 🤔

Just seen on twitter that for the first time ever the Glinda casting breakdown now says ‘any ethnicity’ and not ‘white’! Amazing step
