You could buy a lock up in Walthamstow for that price.

Theatre would depend on the size, if it was a 1000-1500 seaters, I'd open it with a limited run of Mame, Camelot or Brigadoon followed by a new musical like The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
If it was a playhouse, then I'd open with a revival of Tom Stoppard's The Invention of Love followed by a new play or transfer.

If anyone seriously wished to buy & run it, I'm sure crowdfunding would cover the start.

It's going to need a bit of doing up... Yes, but don't you remember how Cliff Richard and his gang did it in "The Young Ones"?

Ooh if only I had the money. I can imagine it'd need a similar amount on top of that to make it workable, but just imagine

ooh what a nice small intimate venue
i would open with phantom and have a huge f***ing chandelier that took up like 85% of that middle space
all seats would become restricted view people in the stalls would have to bend their necks for the whole show so that their head doesnt touch the chandelier
people on upper levels have no view of the stage just a huge f***ing chandelier seats sold as 'listening seats' like at ROH
and then at the end of the first act BAM drop that huge f***ing chandelier like its hot it falls about 1 metre to the floor stalls people are SHOOK
immersive theatre yall phantom of the bingo hall
aww yes

AND because the audience cant really see the stage can save money on props
e.g. bald Christine (no wig budget)
ikea bunk bed instead of the elephant in scene 2
ipod speaker instead of monkey music box

What a beautiful space.
What if we club together and run it as a co-op? i can probably spare £10.

I want a couch and everything A wipe-clean one, presumably... This reminds me of going to the King's Head last year and watching Five Guys Chillin, directly after watching The Book Club with Amanda Muggleton in the same place, and wondering if Amanda had any idea what those five guys were up to on her couch 😂

Well, we might as well cite artistic differences already. There's no room for two casting couches. Lets call the whole thing off........

What, another religious group? It's last owner was also a religious group but they apparently got fewer punters than ENO at the Coliseum which is why it had to be sold just now. It was a wonderful theatre and I saw several shows there including a variety bill with Bud Flanagan (great personality) and a production of Maid of the Mountains with Douglas Byng as the Governor. I also went to several BBC recordings of 'Friday Night is Music Night'. So sad it can't join Wimbledon, Richmond and Bromley as one of London's peripheral theatres.

That's two empty theatres on the outskirts of Manchester then. The Hulme Hippodrome, Tameside Theatre/Hippodrome, plus the Theatre Royal on Peter St, directly inbetween the Palace Theatre and the Opera House . Apparently the latter is owned by the Edwardian Group who own the hotel constructed within the old Free Trade Hall, directly next door to the Theatre Royal. Its use as a nightclub etc have not damaged the interior , the actual theatre fittings have just been covered up to accommodate changes of use. Mant years ago my late brother did some referencing on the building on behalf of the inland revenue, and he assured me this was the case.
I love old theatres!

Sadly, Golders Green Hippodrome is lost to live theatre, as it has been sold to a religious group for prayer and community use instead. How sad, but not unexpected.

Anyone have any idea how much it would cost to buy an average sized West End theatre? Must be millions.

£15 to £20 million or so, I'd estimate. I better keep saving then.
