Seeing this in Richmond tomorrow evening. Feeling a bit nervous about the 3 hour 40 running time! Seeing it in Richmond tomorrow too. In Dress Circle row F. Worried about legroom AND not drinking much beforehand ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

People who like boring musicals? Well if they will turn up to see pretentious bores like "Standing At The Sky's Edge", anything is possible. :-) Wow

I have long thought that the BBC had too many orchestras/bands so I can see the need for a review of that. But the BBC Singers are a unique choir and should be retained. Lose Gary Lineker and use those savings to protect the Singers How are the BBC Singers unique?

Average production imo (apart from the staging). Little original or different. If you’ve seen the show before then you’ve seen this production. Adelaide miscast. Sarah good. Nathan OK but comic timing not great. Sky looked great but felt flat. Rest of cast poor actors. Humour fell flat a lot. Band sounded gorgeous. Maybe it will settle after previews. All very traditional and dated tbh (and not in a good way).

Why? Is he retiring or something? 84 in a few weeks. Does he stop after that birthday?

My biggest problem was Miss Adelaide. Marisha Wallace does a reasonable job, but Hytner has transformed the character from a ditzy, dumb broad played for comedy, to someone altogether more earnest and human. In the context of this piece, that does not work. Miss Adelaide would never act this way in any production. I hope it changes during previews. My friend was disgusted by her interaction with an audience member. He said, there were cops already in the theatre and she wasn't arrested? I say "lucky audience member". I'd have happily swapped places with him for that interaction. Inappropriate

Whatever the premise of the play anything with Mckellen and Allam in it is going to attract my custom. We must enjoy the former, in particular, whilst we can. Seen both on them on stage several times and they're both top-notch actors. Why? Is he retiring or something?

Saw this on the matinee on Wednesday. Enjoyed it but would agree with those noting how the songs kill the pacing. I think I'm on record previously as saying I'm not a fan of musicals but this is closer to a play with songs than a full blown musical anyway. Some of the songs are just too long, and don't contribute to the story-telling in a direct enough fashion. Some simply feel wildly misplaced (the miners' strike one probably being the worst in this sense, since it seemed a way to shoehorn in a dispute about a different industry when the actual story was about someone who had been working for British Steel). Also agree about the ending. Psychotic stalker gaslights former partner back into a relationship is not exactly a very positive ending (despite those cheering in the audience when it happened...) Which record are you on? Do you sing any solo bits?

Well at least the concrete was interesting. Too bad about the show. 😝 I don’t think I have ever seen a poster on here state how much they dislike a show, then repeat it, and repeat it, and repeat it. We get it. You didn’t like it! Others did. End of ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Sorry to say, I have returned my ticket for this too- purely based on the reviews on this board. Such a shame though! Are the Donmar accepting tickets back for exchange/refund/resale? Does it need to be for a specific reason?

Code to see Sylvia at the Old Vic for £30 (normally £55/65) for perfs up to 3rd March. It’s COMEAGAIN Is this for TodayTix or direct with the OV? Direct with the OV online. There should be a code box where you enter the code and then presumably it highlights the reduced seats available?

Those are dreadfully written reviews. Was there no Editor to check them? They read like a drama student reviewer on work experience stepped in to write them at the last minute

Anybody know if the main 3 are generally appearing in recent shows. Thinking of getting a ticket to today’s matinee but only if they are on really. And yes I know that it’s hard to predict and that we don’t just go to see the leads ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

STANDING ON THE SKY'S EDGE It's AT...STANDING AT THE SKY'S EDGE. It’s also so very very very far from being a musical misfire and an example of style over substance imo
