Slightly off topic maybe but I often wonder how understudies stay fit and ready to go on at a couple of hours notice. They can learn the lines and the songs but they need to know where to be on the stage and that might need the whole company to rehearse - when would they do that when a show is on 8 times a week? Shows also have a second understudy in case things go really wrong, it must be even worse for them. It's not as if understudies get a regular go, say every Wednesday that is publicised in advance. It sounds like a tough job to me. Has anyone ever seen an understudy screw it up because they were under-rehearsed? Or maybe it's not as tough for experienced pros as I am thinking? Of course it's tough. Which is why in my opinion swings deserve so much more praise than they usually get. As for rehearsals: Understudies rehearse the full show with the rest of the company. That's what daytime is for. Obviously it's not uncommon for an understudy to go on before they've had a full run through. On every occasion I've seen it happen it has been absolutely fine bar some minor mistakes (but it's live theatre after all).

If she bothers showing up the night you go. She is infamous for her attendance record- hence her not taking The Bodyguard to Broadway. I'm only just back from NYC and have already sorted a trip for late June so I can catch Heather in the show (not the only reason for another trip but a good excuse for one that soon). I've been waiting to see her on stage again. :-) I'm well aware she is no role model when it comes to attendance rate. I adore her as a performer nonetheless. And I only missed her once in The Bodyguard (and yes, I went quite a few times while she was in it) and since I'm not pre booking my tickets for Color Purple I think I will be fine catching her while I am in town.

Steffi - where can I discuss Sleep No More. I'd love to understand more about who the characters I was following were. IS that strand totally separate from the Macbeth piece? I think I took more from it than Drowned Man as I had more courage to really explore and I hope it runs long enough for me to go again. In case you want to read up on Sleep No More in detail this is a good list of links to info sources: behindawhitemask.tumblr.com/resources

I still think Hadley Fraser would be a good fit.

I've seen Jersey Boys in London, Melbourne, and various parts of the US, but seeing it in such proximity to the actual Jersey brings it a little edge. The first time I saw it here, I felt like they were almost trying too hard, but I don't feel that way anymore. I've done Sleep No More twice, but am not that familiar with Macbeth. Had a great time anyway, and took candy both times! Does this help? sleepnomore.wikia.com/wiki/Sleep_No_More_WikiI've probably eaten my body weight in candy at the McKittrick over the years. :-)

But depending on who you followed you might not have seen anything Macbeth related. It very much depends on the characters you followed and which part of their loop you saw. Feel free to message me privately - I don't want to post too much on here (I always try to avoid posting any kind of spoiler for Punchdrunk shows). :-)

Nice mix of shows there! I was in New York for 2 weeks last month and saw two of these shows. Enjoyed The Crucible but admit I only went because I like Ben Whishaw (who I thought was great). On Broadway I also saw She loves me which was enjoyable. A typical, old fashioned American musical with a great cast. My third Broadway show was Fiddler on the Roof which I'd already seen on my last visit in November.
I did see Sleep No More more times than I should ever admit but being a huge Punchdrunk fan I just couldn't stay away. I agree that the Macbeth narrative can be hard to spot depending on which characters you end up following. For me this show has something new in store every time I go (and I've been going regularly since September 2014) - it really is highly addictive, at least if you are into immersive theatre. I'm going back in late June. :-)

Will Mark Shenton ever stop comparing everything to Bend it like Beckham?

Probably in the minority but I'd love to see Hofesh Shechter win for choreography. I know he has been criticised for his work in Fiddler but personally I found his choreography beautiful - it's both folkloristic and modern and works great in this very traditional (no pun intended) show.

I would be very happy for Danny Burstein to win. He's wonderful in Fiddler. :-)

No nomination for Audra did suprise me a bit but mainly because it had become such a common thing for her to be nominated for every role.
Not surprised Jennifer Hudson was left out. In fact this makes the awards more credible for me - she's a celebrity, yes. But from all I've heard her performance simply isn't award worthy (I might be totally wrong but that's the impression I got after talking to people who've seen her in the show).

Lily is off sick tonight so it's possible she's been struggling with a cold or so which might have affected her voice.

Joshua Ryan Hutcherson at Sleep No More last week. Obviously only noticed him in the bar after the show (I only just manage to recognise my friends during the show - masks and darkness and such).

I really like Phillipa as Daniela but definitely prefered Victoria. She had the sassy humour down to a tee and her energy was insane. She stole the show whenever she was on stage.

I can't compare Jennifer to Beverly (I have seen neither on stage) so there's no way I can judge if one or both deserved their nominations or lack of them. :-)
And I didn't mean Jennifer would never have had a chance of getting nominated. But like I said, I am not surprised she wasn't based on reports of her performance.

The WOS Awards are a joke though. Anyone with a big enough fanbase can win one, talented or not. ;-)
The problem with Jennifer in Color Purple seems to be (and trust me, this suprised me) is that she is simply not sexy at all as Shug. And being sexy (or acting sexy if you prefer) is kind of essential for the role. I can only go with friends' reviews as I have not seen the show but those friends have always given honest and valid opinions on shows so far. :-) I won't get to see Jennifer myself as I'll go when Heather has taken over.

I am really surprised that Jennifer Hudson has been snubbed at both the Outer Critics' and Drama Desk, whilst Danielle has been nominated everywhere bar the Drama League (which ironically Jennifer is nominated)... it does make me wonder if we will see Jennifer snubbed at the Tony's.
AND NO ACTING NOMS FOR SHUFFLE ALONG?! NOT EVEN AUDRA! Not surprised about Jennifer Hudson not being nominated. At least not after everyone I know who saw her in the show has said "she can sing but that's about it". ;-)

That's your opinion and obviously you're entitled to it but arrogant is the last thing that would come to my mind when thinking about Lin. So far he's come across as extremely talented and nice in everything I've watched. Plus he's a proper theatre nerd. There's a reason a lot of theatre fans see him as "one of us". :-)

Cynthia seems to be very much set to win (I could be totally wrong here, of course). And while I think Lin will be nominated I don't think he's a set winner despite the Hamilton hype. I can see Danny Burstein winning. I've seen him in Fiddler twice and was impressed by his performance.

What the actual hell... is David Bedella even in this?! My second time seeing it this month and he ia off again! I actually really liked Vas last time so I shouldn't complain really but for god sake David! Jocasta on for Vanessa Vas on for Kevin Michael on for Piragua He mentioned on Facebook last Wednesday that he wouldn't be in the show for the next two weeks. I've seen him 9 out of 10 times. Your timing is just bad. ;-)
