I guess there is no crystal ball to see how the virus will pan out and when there will be a vaccine. The government is in an impossible position really as it cannot please both sides by approving what could turn out to be a dangerous precedent of non socially distant indoor performances. As has previously been mentioned it is not just the performance but everything else that goes along with it, such as bar, toilets, getting everyone in and out and to their seats....Here's hoping that things will turn out more positive quicker than we expect though. That is the big issue - toilets and all the narrow spaces.

With the government telling us a second wave is coming what did you expect? Well atleast we are prepared. Life is about risk, and unfortunately, we have been removed of many of our freedoms and much of our employment has disappeared or about to disappear. We can't live in fear forever. With the reports of the long term effects Covid is having I fear the virus.

But SD is already over for some industries - eg travel - no social distancing required on planes. Still not clear why theatre can't also be considered for an exception where you can show risks are minimal, whether through mask use, air filtration systems, etc. Everyone facing the same way also reduces risk. I think a more pilots need to be done in order to fully test it. If I was ALW or another theatre owner, I would do a trial with the same measures as the Palladium pilot but with no social distancing. Apart from South Korea and possibly Japan, are any entertainment venues around the world planning to fully open with no social distancing? The government and local councils will be wary of approving trials for no distancing trials coming for a while for obvious reasons. ALW can't unilaterally do one

No more guidance for indoor performance without social distancing until Nov What a farce. Bye bye to the theatre industry. With the government telling us a second wave is coming what did you expect?

Hopefully they will just disregard this useless govt and get on with trying to put on indoor theatre in a way that's compatible with an ongoing health issue - eg like the Mousetrap is. The mousetrap does have social distancing.

Cam Mc says no re-opening until Easter at the earliest and four/five months of notice of no distancing opening being allowed is needed before performances can re-open. Or, if you prefer a more positive take on it, he is aiming to reopen box offices in November with a view to shows returning by Easter. But he will only re - open them in November if he gets a promise that no distancing will be needed - that's not a certainty.

I know you know that you have a heightened sense of vulnerability due to your OCD; it's not fair to imply that the rest of us are being reckless by doing normal reasonable things that are now extremely low risk given the low level of transmission of this virus. I was commenting on (possible future) government policy & how it would affect my own behaviour. I did not say anything about other people's behaviour. In many areas it will be harder to get home deliveries due to an increase in car free streets.

When I was young it was Princess Margaret, her purported flings with various men, such as Roddy Llewellyn and her supposed hedonistic lifestyle. It’s vicious attitudes from press barons and their ideologically adjacent lackies that is the problem. 99% of what they publish about the royals is of no public interest and yet they miss the obvious (deliberately, I might say). Take the Epstein scandal, which appears to be of great concern for many powerful men (Ghislaine Maxwell also being the daughter of disgraced press baron Robert Maxwell). It took Prince Andrew sweating his way through the most unconvincing interview possible to get their acknowledgement when it was there for decades to expose, Better they publish ‘squirrels’ on celebrities (hacked phones or not) than possibly endanger anyone connected to their employment. * Maxwell nearly had a West End musical staged about his life but that’s another story. Through Indepedent media would be even less risk taking as Libel laws mean you need to have absolute proof before publishing it.

I have got a feeling Spain might well consider vetoing any trade deal going by what Sky News says.

Here in the UK there has not been much of a decrease in cash usage going by how busy banks are and how big chains like Next dropped their card only policies due to it being unsustainable. Every study shows that cash use has dropped massively during the pandemic! However I fully concede that the University of Man Walks Into A Bank should be taken equally seriously... But do those surveys show if card usage has gone up or if simply people haven't spent the money.
Next thought it could go card only but enough potential customers walked away so they had to U-turn.

No face to face meetings atm through - having been in them during this time almost everyone is either paying in or withdrawing cash. Almost everyone of the one or two customers allowed in a branch at the same time? It's more like 4 or 5 now.

I think the court they use isn’t actually a set, but an off site location - but I could be wrong. You’d think a court set would be pretty socially distanced anyway actually, if they had one. Yeah it's usually filmed off set which is not practicable at this time. {Spoiler - click to view} From press reports it seems like the trial might never happen with the storyline resolved without seeing the inevitable court climax.

I guess it has something to do with insurance? No idea but Paula’s a guest as oppose to a regular so maybe there’s something in that. The older cast do want to get back to work - I believe William Roche did something on Lorraine saying as much. Plus the cast are paid per episode rather than a salary, so presumably everyone wants to get back to work. Insurance would depend as much on a star's health than age. I know when Frank Thornton and Peter Sallis turned 85 their roles in Last of The Summer Wine had to be scaled back to inside/on set shoots although both were in reasonable knick. We don't know if the Yasmin health scare has been written in as filming a court scene may have been difficult although trials do continue in real life or whether for any reason Shelley King cannot be on set for a bit. I hope they do acknowledge the issues of characters with underlying health issues. Seb is supposed to be HIV positive and Kevin's son had his leg removed, Leanne's son has a life shortening condition so these should be reflected. They can also do some humour in it too - a Mary, Roy or Evelyn would be just the sort of person to keep a suitcase full of emergency provisions for example. So the people like Jonathan Harvey or DAR who write some of the show's funniest moments could surely exploit this? Her collapse was filmed with distancing so I think it's just an excuse due to the trial being unable to be filmed.

A quick look at newspaper front pages reveals why the press as it currently exists, as a mouthpiece for its wealthy and privileged owners, needs to be destroyed. Firstly, ranting about holiday plans being affected by rises in cases across Europe when it was they who were reckless in agitating for for and glorifying foreign holidays during a global pandemic in the first place. Secondly, doubling down on their vendetta against the Sussexes with spin that would have done Malcolm Tucker proud. Mass media in the hands of a few privileged individuals is a recipe for disaster and our society has been weakened and twisted as a result of it for far too long. Have you seen the state of most of the independent media that covers current affair/politics - much of it is very toxic. I think they is no way to not further the culture war as most countries are moving towards more biased media tailored just for your own views where cancellation of the alternative tribe is the main aim.

The British press are racist - no-one who has spent any time studying them can have any doubt about it. Of course, racism is deeply embedded in our society and most others, so this is not surprising. I am not sure that they did think that pointing out the racism would make the press unpopular. The press are already unpopular - circulation figures have been falling for years, advertising spend has nosedived, it’s an industry in crisis. I think they underestimated the extent to which the court institution are beholden to the tabloid press, given that they are so unpopular. This is why the press are so vehemently anti The Sussexes. The threat is existential - if they’d persuaded the rest of The Firm that they don’t actually need to cooperate with the tabloids because hardly anyone reads them, that they should stop trying to curry favour with them because actually they can reach people directly via social media, and that they don’t need to put up with the outrageous and often illegal behaviour, then the tabloids would have lost considerable influence. The Palace still act as though the tabloids have the same circulation and influence as they did 20 years ago, and of course the owners and editors need them to believe that. The truth is more people read Facebook every day than a newspaper - and they trust what they read on Facebook more. Which is a huge problem in itself for the spread of misinformation, but that’s a different subject. The press are still read online a lot more than their circulation figures suggest.
Put it simply - if the press have no impact how come more than 50% of the UK find Meghan a liability - the non mainstream press barely talks about them.
Through the rumour is Rupert Murdoch has tons of dirt on the Royals which he won't allow to be printed until the Queen dies due his respect for her.
