I saw it tonight at the theatre itself (back row of the gods)! This was my first time seeing Hamlet live and my god - I thought it was incredible! Essiedeu absolutely blew me away - he's got an incredible career ahead of him, I'm sure.
I wasn't particularly keen on Gertrude either! She seemed to rush quite a few of her lines.

Anyone else going to either of his shows at the Hippodrome on the 27th? I can't wait!

I'll be there on friday (with mother in tow). I've been a fan for years so I'm very excited for the chance to finally see her in person!

If any of you are interested in the screenings next Wednesday and are in the general London/Essex area, the Royal Opera House are doing a free screening of the ballet at High House Production Park in Purfleet, where their production workshop and costume centre are based.

I'm tentatively excited for this. I have no doubts that Annaleigh Ashford will be anything less than brilliant and I'm hopeful for Ryan McCartan as Brad - I thought he was pretty great in Heathers.

On a whole I enjoyed it (historical inaccuracies aside) but I have to say that I'm not terribly keen on Tom Sturridge as Henry VI (I wanted to like him, I really did) or Adrian Dunbar as Richard, Duke of York.

The Princess Bride - it's on TV now (Channel 5). Princess Bride was in the works. I remember Andy Karl did a demo of three (I think) songs for it. I can't remember what happened, but I think it was something to do with the rights (There's probably some information online) Here's one of the songs he wrote for it, "As You Wish"

I'll add in a few-
Phantom: Next to the box office. (You can't miss it)
Les Mis: to the right of the doors where you come in, next to the merch stand. There's normally a sheet or two at the box office that lists the understudies/swings.
Jersey Boys: On the wall in front of the middle two doors as you enter.

I've read in Twitter that people think there are actual bugs and insects in this play?! Is this true?! Really? Like I get that as the audience you kinda of begin to doubt if they are just imagining it or not but I thought that it was quite obvious that the bugs aren't real (Is this where I've completely missed the mark??)

I have D2 Stalls so welcomed your comments. Thank you. I don't mind missing Michael's bedroom but would be gutted if I missed Michael (newly formed and in these trunks we've heard so much about and which I've had no luck in Google imaging yet!) himself. Don't worry, you wont miss Michael in his trunks. He is centre stage for that moment. And what a moment it is!

I'd love to see Aneurin Barnard or Iwan Rheon back on the stage if their schedules would allow it. I've been waiting years for Sutton Foster to come over from Broadway but I fear that her doing a show over here would be little more than a pipe dream for me!

Terribly sorry to disappoint you! (I think??) Sorry, meant as a compliment. I meant your writing is very good, mature than your age. Came out very wrong. I had hoped that it was in a good way, but you can never be completely sure. But thank you!

This will almost definitely give away how young I am but honestly my first time at theatre was mildly traumatic. I must have been about 2 or 3 (so either '98 or '99) and my parents and I were on holiday in Lowestoft. The holiday park we were staying at had a little theatre thing that was taken over by Noel Edmonds so needless to say that my first theatre experience involved the terrifying Mr Blobby - I think we left pdq because I was crying.
Other than the local pantos, what I would say was my first proper experience of the theatre would be the 2004 UK Tour of Beauty and the Beast. My first Broadway and West End shows were Phantom, both in 2010. (Went on holiday to New York, ended up seeing Phantom and fell in love, ended up seeing it again in London two months later.)

I have a load of various theatre memorabilia (I think I may have a slight hoarding problem) but two things come to mind. The first one is a playbill from the ill-fated musical Marilyn: An American Fable which ran on broadway for just over a month 1983 - I got the playbill on ebay for an absolute steal! The other thing that comes to mind is a few christmases ago I was given a gift from my parents of Jersey Boys ducks signed by the four leads at the time (Ryan Molloy, Jon Boydon, Edd Post and David McGranaghan). I'm still not quite sure how my parents got hold of the ducks.

When does the blue dress appear? I used to love the fact that the first time we see adult Cosette, she is still wearing the black dress and bonnet which Valjean dressed her in, after her rescue, as if she is still in mourning for her mother. From In My Life/A Heart Full of Love through to Every Day. My friend wrote a great piece on tumblr about the importance of the black dress. I'm not entirely sure why they brought the new dress in now, though.

I saw Adam Pearce a few months back as Javert - thought he was spectacularly good. I'm not a huge LM fan, but I'd see it again just to see him in the role. I saw him too mid last year. I thought it took him a while to get going but he was magnificent by the end. His 'stars' got the biggest applause of the night. I've never heard such powerful live male vocals before. Yes, I thought that it took him a while to get going - once the show got to the confrontation he seemed to be a lot more in his element. His stars was completely wonderful!

The dress is similar to the tour one, mostly in colour. It's a lot more detailed than the tour one. It's the weird overskirt that really gets me - it just looks a bit unfinished

On my way home from tonight's performance and I have a few thoughts.
It was so great to see Craig Mather and Danielle Hope back in the show - they were both even better than I hoped (I had quite high expectations for them tonight, I really loved their performances in the previous runs.)
I wasn't terribly pleased with Cosette's new dress, I was quite fond of the black one. The new dress is this hideous blue number (Zoe Doano posted a picture on twitter) - it has this awful lacy overskirt/apron that finished about 2/3rds down the dress.
Adam Pearce was absolutely incredible as Javert - I hope he becomes principal one day.
I have to say, everyone on the previous forum was right about how dreadful Phil Daniels was - I haven't seen a Thénardier that hammy since Matt Lucas!

A couple of years ago I found an advert for a dating website that was a picture of Cheyenne Jackson - don't really know how that happened but I wasn't complaining!

I'm hoping that if the Broadway production is a success it will make it's way back over here! It really was a brilliant show.

The London cast recording is finally getting released on March 25th, a Broadway one to follow. I wonder what took them so long to release it - the show's run was two years ago now.

Can anyone give a rough running time for this please? Thinking of catching it via NT Live, but engineering works might make it tricky to get a train home afterwards if it goes much past 10:30pm. Runs abot 2hr40, I think I was about by about 10:15 last night

Rory Kinnear - that's who he reminded me of!
Saw the play tonight, like others on the board it was my first experience of As You Like It. To be honest, I did find that it dragged at little up until the forest transition - although I may have felt that due to not really getting the decision to set it in some office (lab??). Patsy Ferran was definitely the stand out performance for me and I can't wait to see what she goes on to do next.
I didn't realise Fra Fee was in it (God knows how I missed that) but boy was I glad to see him on stage again - he really is brilliant.
