I really hope it's not a transfer and if it is from Broadway then I really hope they actually attempt a British accent. It sticks out like a sore thumb otherwise.

Can anybody please recommend fairly reasonable priced seats with a decent view for this? I'd buy top price but I'm a little short or cash right now as I've just moved to London.

Dropped my parents off at the theatre to see this earlier - I got them tickets for Christmas. Absolutely kicking myself that I didn't get myself one at the time now!

I just listened to that audio of Alice. During the flying section she was very pitchy and sounded strained at times, I actually thought her voice was going to crack. Me too! Good she's trying new things and playing around with it but it was quite pitchy! I also agree, parts of it were verging on shouting. Alice has a great voice though, I guess seeing as she's the standby she doesn't get as many chances to find out what really works for her.

Yes, and someone just put it on YT :-O Are people joking? Am I missing the joke? How is wobbling all over the place and basically spoiling the money notes grounds for being the best ever? Just. Sing. It. If you're bored of singing it let someone else sing it...properly. There are impressive 'riffs' and embellishments that actually add to a score and make it even better. This does not, and smacks of disregard for the bulk of the audience who'll be wondering what on earth is going on. Drives me absolutely crackers! Preach! This sounds an absolute mess to my ears. Not a fan. Also, Suzie's 'optional high notes' are just slightly flat screams.

She didn't have quite the lung capacity of previous Elphaba's but my issue with Emma is the way she would slur across words in order to reach them - it's clear it was quite a strain for her and I'm surprised she didn't do damage to her voice if I'm honest. It was almost as if she had never learnt the score and was sight reading plus I found her delivery and phrasing quite jarring in the big moments. I actually think Emma has a great voice, just not as Elphaba. Willemijn, for me, is just getting a little too carried away at the moment and it distracts from the score. To sing "with the wizard" as it is written sounds so much better with the changes to the melody she made in the video I posted. I'm going to go and see her before she leaves and I really hope she doesn't add these riffs as I find it distracting. I've said it before and I'll say it again - stick. to. the. score. The majority of the Wicked performances I have seen have been mainly riff free. I completely understand it can add something occasionally. When I saw Rachel in November she sang the show pretty straight but added a riff on the high F which actually did add that extra something special but that was pretty much her only riff - and that's why it sounded special! Hate how many times I've said r**f in this post. I get what you mean, and I agree, Emma's diction did suffer when she tried to hit the more difficult notes - and I think as she got further into her run, she had a tendency to mumble important lines, possibly due to the fact she was just running through the motions in her head. The one that got me was "it's not her, she ha.... *mumble mumble* I'M THE ONE YOU WANT!!!!!" It just felt so unnatural and like she was deliberately trying to manufacture an opportunity to growl a note that didn't need to be growled. I don't mind a few well placed riffs, it's not the defining factor in whether a show is any good or not, but it can add to an already strong performance. Yes, I have to agree - a strange acting choice. The 'she has nothing to do with it line' is always lost completely.

I never saw Alexia Khadime as Elphaba but I've grown to really like her voice in the role. I'd like to see her return some day.

That "And I'll stand there with the wizard" is just a big NO from me. If I was MD I'd be stopping that right now - it's so unnecessary and is an example of when riffing (ugh, that word) gets out of hand. It is pretty showy, but then again Willemijn does manage to do it all in one breath; I'd rather watch her going from "with me" through to the end of "never felt" in one whilst being a bit pretentious in the middle than watch Emma Hatton gasping for air after every other word. I do agree that maybe it's a step too far though. The assistant MD has been conducting the show for the last week or so, which might explain why she's sneaking in slightly questionable riffs now whilst the MD is away and she won't get in trouble. In the Defying Gravity there are a couple of riffs that make me wonder who could have approved them. The high F is a little bit strange and contains too many notes to be done accidentally, but too few notes to constitute an actual riff, and the "or was" is definitely very self-indulgent. She didn't have quite the lung capacity of previous Elphaba's but my issue with Emma is the way she would slur across words in order to reach them - it's clear it was quite a strain for her and I'm surprised she didn't do damage to her voice if I'm honest. Ahah I actually meant that with no shade. Someone asked how Alice is, I gave my friends opinion. Haha, oh no, I meant your typos, I was implying you'd been on the sauce!

Thank ya Jesus! Welcome to the Wicked fans who appreciate the performance and enjoy it as it happens rather than plan every reaction before you see the show! I wasn't the one who planned to cheer btw, i just got told too so i did. If you got told to put your hand in a fire, would you do that as well? Christ, I've turned into my parents.

Disclaimer: I haven't seen Willemijn live and yes I'm just going of audio's I have listened to over the years and I'm planning on seeing before she leaves London.
But, does anybody else find her vocals a bit dull? She has a great voice but I always feel they're lacking a little bit of character - she sounds quite plain?

In relation to the above, I have to disagree - I feel like Rachel was super powerful, and her belt was incredible. But in the quieter moments she sounded weak - beginning of WAI and INTG fell flat a few times for me. Someone like Willemijn makes INTG a powerful number, without the explicit power that you get from DG or NGD. I personally thought Rachel owned both those moments, they didn't fall flat to me - the first is for me meant to be slightly dazed and confused, the second slightly melancholy, and I always thought she evoked those emotions within the context of her slightly angry and frustrated Elphaba (which I think fits the character) - it would be a shame if all Elphabas did play all those moments the same, they're all entitled to their own interpretations. Just my opinion though, and I appreciate others will think differently. But Rachel is and always will be the complete, as good as it gets Elphaba for me, and what other people clearly see as flaws in her performance I view very differently. And it's the other way round for others - I know I'm very much in a minority in really disliking Dianne Pilkington's Glinda, for instance. I just wanted to say I always find myself nodding in agreement with your posts - you manage to say everything I want to say but a hell of a lot more eloquently than I could write! I always agree completely with everything you say about Rachel and like you said, others will of course see that what we see as her strengths, they will see as weaknesses - but hey, that's fine, it's why we are here!

Has anyone else here not seen Willemijn yet, surely can't be the only member in that boat? Nope, I've never seen her either. I'm going to try and catch her over the next couple of months though.

Well if I'd known that I'd have waited and booked for June rather than having to book the 11pm show in her March run as I wasn't free the other evenings! Oh well, still looking forward to March, and thankful for the Night Tube! I imagine there will be a good atmosphere though at that gig - it's not often you go to an event that starts at 11pm.

Rachel has announced she is going on a UK tour as well as adding four additional London dates. Whoooo hooooo! I haven't booked for any of her shows yet but I think I may just have to now! I hope she does more live videos, I could listen to her chatting away all day, she's funny.

I've been listening to Rachel's last DG a lot this week... absolutely love the delivery of her pre-flight lines.

Haha that was quick for the news coming out... Tonight will be the Elphaba debut of Jessamy Stoddard! Apparently there is a matinee today as well... guessing it's half term?

I heard that earlier and I'm not sure if it's just me but it sounded a little like Willemijnlosr concentration for a second and quickly recovered?
I'm not saying she actually did, of course, and if intended (and I know Elphaba is supposed to sound excited here) but it sounded quite frantic and jarring to me. No denying her pipes though - will have to catch her while she's in London, I've never seen her.

James Darch as Fiyero - very easy on the eye, You're not wrong, I've found myself watching him during the ensemble numbers numerous times on my last 2 visits.

She's only been gone a week but for anybody who is missing Rachel, she's put on her Instagram that she's doing a Facebook Live video at 4:30pm where we can catch a glimpse of her rehearsals for her gigs in march. Link - www.facebook.com/paraprod
