I believe more shows should run on Sundays, especially in London. What else is there to do?!

That's really interesting BigBrightBeautifulWorld, I never noticed that when I saw it a few weeks ago.
I'm sorry to add negativity here, but I was very underwhelmed by this touring production. The cast were going through the motions I felt without much life and it was merely an "ok" performance, when I know this show is much better.

This tour needs to have some good cast members, the last tour was indeed disappointing and I hated the new designs. We need a tour based upon the original production with some actors in line with the casting when it was in London.

I totally agree Baemax, when you've seen lots of theatre performances like I have it is sooo obvious when corpsing is fake that it really is aggravating!

I was very very lucky to have seen Louise Dearman singing the role on 2 separate occasions, and yes she was incredible.
When I saw this revival I was disappointed in comparison.

Just had this by email: "Our Friends priority booking period has been extremely popular this year and whilst we would like to reassure you there is still good availability for the Festival Theatre productions, we now have limited availability for certain productions in our smaller Minerva Theatre. Many performances of Caroline, Or Change and King Lear are now sold out so we do advise you to approach booking with flexibility in dates and seating areas." So it would seem that they don't hold back tickets for every performance, if at all. I think its pretty disgusting of Chichester to be honest.

I love singing around my house to show tunes but at no point would I go an audition to be in a professional musical! I think you should be her understudy

Funny how this seems to have it's own "Christmas holiday" from 18th Dec - 1st Jan. Is this the period when most West End shows usually go quiet? Nope...it's a period I love seeing shows, although you do have to keep an eye on the trains! I can only guess some people may be on holiday?

I suppose with Paul O'Grady playing the wicked step mother the roles of the Uglies will be downgraded for this with Paul doing most of the work the Uglies usually do. It will certainly alter the dynamic of the piece. The last time I saw Paul O'Grady in a pantomime he was on stage for a total of about 20 minutes out of a pantomime that lasted 2.5 hours, so I wouldn't get your hopes too high.

I thought I'd start an interesting thread which should be a lot of fun and let us explore more musicals.
Have you ever listened to a cast recording and wondered what other shows there may be which are similar to enjoy?
I'll start with "Dear World" by Jerry Herman which I love, what other shows could you recommend for me?

I think she did hear, sadly. I couldn't see the audience member but I can only assume alcohol was involved, the culprit was definitely seated in the stalls!

When I saw the show, someone in the audience shouted out quite clearly that Sophie was singing flat which wasn't very nice!

It's my understanding that the choice was not Dick's own. I suspect that Dick was contractually bound to remain in Hobson's Choice after the UK tour if it transferred to London thereby preventing him from doing Half a Sixpence in Chichester.

Do you think the people laughing lots and applauding Rebel's performance were normal theatregoers or were their enthusiastic responses due to the fact they'd booked to just see her on stage, regardless of the role or the musical?

I like this production, but I felt that Martin Shaw's performance was disappointing. I much preferred the performance of John Savident a while back in Chichester and also that production.

And Gerard Carey's scene-stealing performance as the photographer in that scene. "I can't quite fit you in"

I saw this again last night, it's a solid show held together with a strong cast. I adore Emma Williams but felt she was having an "off-night" yesterday. It was lovely seeing Gillian Lynne in the audience. {Spoiler - click to view} I saw this again last night, it's a solid show held together with a strong cast. I adore Emma Williams but felt she was having an "off-night" yesterday. It was lovely seeing Gillian Lynne in the audience. A difference I noticed from a preview is that one of Lady Punnet's lines have been changed in Act 2 when Arthur has lost his money. She used to say something like "I'm really busy" and be cold to him, but this time she was warmer and said something like "You chose the right girl". I think I preferred her being cold to him as it implicated Helen as nasty, but I don't see her that way.

Mamma Mia, Guys & Dolls, The Lion King and The Comedy about a Bank Robbery.
That's not bad for someone who doesn't like musicals much!!

It's annoying that the website is down at the moment, so for next week is the cast: Oliver Thompsett, Siubhan Harrison, Rebel Wilson and Simon Lipkin?

I was at the performance last night and I thought it was a fun production, unlike David J I felt it worked much better than previous musicals I've seen there.
I agree about Tom's voice and that his expression does carry him through and his dancing is impressive, especially in such a small place. I feel Caroline Sheen deserves more of a mention as she is the charm of the production and has a fabulous voice and physical presence.

I don't go to the ballet very often, but I've heard a LOT of praise for Fille, so I'm going to give it a go this year. Wish me luck! Fille is the most charming and hearwarming ballet ever, I love it.
