i had no idea it was opening so soon - the marketing has been dreadful!
i’m very intrigued but can’t say i’m even remotely tempted to pay what they’re currently charging for tickets…

it's definitely still coming - several meetings happened in london this week with new members of the team... theyre in no rush though & wish to attempt to 'fix' certain elements of the show

*Check back here tomorrow at 11am where the casting of Margaret Johnson is revealed* From WoS Looks like Liz Truss will be busy so are we ready for Rishi's Margaret ? Elena Shadow - can’t say i’m familiar with her but she does seem to have a long string of credits. not sure if it’s enough of a name to draw me in just yet - despite loving the score.

I will say that I saw ArtsEd's production of SpongeBob last year and that was obviously a much lower budget version than the Broadway one and I think it still came across very well - they didn't have any big lavish sets, but it still captured the vibe and joy of the show I think. I respectfully disagree - i dont think the show needs a huge set etc, but i thought that production was terrible (design/direction wise, the kids were great!)

To be fair, we also dont know what age students start at Shizz, were assuming their university model is similar to ours but its a made up magical land... they could all be precisely 42 for all we know lol

Elphaba’s age is never explicitly stated in the show. She’s definitely older than Nessarose “Elphaba has just started college in Wicked, so she is thought to be eighteen or nineteen years-old. However in the book, she was three years older than Nessarose, which would make her at least 20 or 21 years-old.” I'd guess that they'll frame it as Nessa starting college, with her older sister joining with her to look after her? So she could be 10+ years older (as she will appear) and i guess it just adds to her 'other-ness'? But we wont know til we see it

No worries at all - if i didn't already know she'd played that role there previously i'd have thought exactly the same! She really does need to return to panto though!

Is she? I cant see it anywhere, but i'd love this to be true! Check out Mark Whitney’s Pantoland on Facebook, May 23rd. Jane McDonald as “Mother Nature” in Dick Whittington . Sorry I can’t post a link . i’m pretty sure that’s an archive pic from when she did it in 2014

Surprised she wasn't snapped up by crossroads for one of the major UK venues like Birmingham I wondered that too. I see Jane McDonald is going to Birmingham for panto this year . Is she? I cant see it anywhere, but i'd love this to be true!

I had thought this was Wonderland in Concert at first but The Secret Garden is more likely seeing as it was planned in the past. Lambert Jackson Productions commented on the Instagram post as well and it was them who were originally producing I believe. Hope Jac Yarrow and Lucie Jones are still attached to this if they can fit it around their shows, obviously Ramin will have to be replaced now. I saw the West Yorkshire Playhouse production many, many years ago. One of the few productions I've walked out of (leaving two companions behind) long before the interval. I wasn't in the right mood for it, but in fairness I loathed everything about the musical when I listened to it later. The snapping point came when a man did a five minute song about how much he likes cabbages and I could feel my blood pressure rising with each passing second. I'm sure it's not the worst show ever written but it has a special place in my heart as one of my absolute least favourites. that was a different version - i’m assuming this will be the broadway score by Marsha Norman, not the Gary Lyons and Tim Sutton version. the only professional production i know of was the RSC version which played 2 seasons at stratford & a brief london run.

Cheers that makes sense. So Isaac is happy to use any of those pronouns when described. I've seen some non binary people have he/them or she/them as their pronouns but Isaac's is a new one on me. I've always tried to keep up with all the different definitions but when there are now numerous genders I get totally lost. I get to LGBT, understand non-binary but Queer now having a different meaning to the overarching or some would say offensive term ( I don't see it as offensive as it has been used for titles of events like Queerfest) and with it becoming LGBTQI it takes a while for me in my early 50's to get my head around let alone older people. it’s so great that you’re trying and willing to learn thought! as a non binary person in theatre i thank you

i saw the show on broadway & watched the proshot in the cinema and i cannot for the life of me remember the set beyond some generic scaffolding.
it’s not a show that demands anything too specific in terms of production so i think something in the round sounds fine. i expect they’ll use the flying to just exaggerate the dancing - like some leaps that go further than usual & a pirouette that leads to take off etc.

I saw it - one of the best show's ive ever seen and I dont say that lightly. So beautiful and full of life, joy, and humour as well as the darker and more expected themes.

Hello all. Never done this but-there’s a first time for everything! The concert is happening. Subject to all the usual stuff but its sold out-although the final 100 tickets held back will be released around January 21st Cast still being confirmed but many of the big names all committed as long as they dont catch you know what It is a concert format. Will raise lots for the charities and should be fun. Those actors based overseas are unlikely to make it in person but hopefully they will participate and join the evening in some way. It’s thrilling to see what has happened to all those performers since we built that great show and I built that little 325 seat theatre in that church basement. They were fun times. Mostly! The artists-writers, actors, George, Chris-everyone have been som wonderful in making this happen. It will be a rollercoaster but isnt that the point! Sorry the tickets are so expensive-but my priority was raising as much for the charities as possible-we will have some rush on the day and some sponsoered tickets that George and I are paying for as well that will be released a few days prior. Please keep going to all theatre as much as you can. We need it now-perhaps more than ever. Adam hey adam! i went to the leigh bowery exhibition today & it really got my hopes up to try and catch this - are more tickets still being released tomorrow?

It opens just in time for me to catch it, and it wasn't on my radar at all due to prices and lack of interest in Billy Christal, but now Shoshana is in it i feel like i might have to...

what do we think the chances are of Covid discounts reading up to christmas? i know most shows are closer now, but i have a free night next week and was wondering if this could be a way around the extortionate moulin rouge pricing!

Another thing that I can't fathom is {Spoiler - click to view} The princes who don't end up with Rose all go off to go their own thing. One of them says he's starting a creche - fine, supposed to be an attempt at comedy since we just saw them all abandon two babies; one of them says he's going to do 'something to do with fish'? made no sense to me at all, and another declares they're actually a woman and no longer want to be referred to by a man's name. The last one just seemed so strangely shoehorned in? By all means, please do add queer rep to fairytales, but do so in a way that doesn't feel so horribly tokenistic and played for laughs... Wait - they have a cis actor suddenly turning trans for laughs?

My refund came through and I used it to book tickets to the New York production instead - with a far less problematic director! A win all round i'd say.

From looking at the site, it seems that Beverley is doing all of the shows. This is a change when she didn't do matinees of Bodyguard, Memphis, and Cats. Im sure this will be a big sing for here so interesting it doesn't say anything on the site about another actress. It does say she has a holiday for a week in January. She did do matinees in the Bodyguard at the Dominion as I went to a Saturday afternoon one and she was on. She didn't do wednesday matinees i think - i definitely went & saw (a fantastic) alternate

As a big Emma fan, I was looking forward to this immensely…. But I was bored stiff. All style over substance, and the substance there was, was dodgy.
I didn’t care for any of the characters, and it ended up being a bit of a white savour narrative.
Glad others enjoyed though!

I easily got 2 stalls tickets for Pretty Woman this evening… they’re in row O which isn’t ideal, but still good value for the price!
