It touches a very particular nerve of mine when actors refer to themselves/parts of themselves as their characters. Like "I've been climbing the barricade" "I'll be in the bubble/mask/hat tonight!". It's so wanky

I've recently re-read the book so here are all the differences I can think of: Clay listens to all the tapes in the span of one evening, the only plot-relevant people he bumps into are Marcus (throwing rocks at Tyler's house) and Ryan (following him to make sure he's listening to the tapes). Sheri is called Jenny The order of the tapes goes Justin, Alex, Jessica, Tyler, Courtney, Marcus, Zach, Ryan, Clay, Justin again, Jenny, Bryce, Mr Porter Justin spread rumours that they'd gone further than kissing, no picture was involved Courtney and Tony aren't gay (Ryan isn't confirmed either way) Courtney spread rumours of what she'd found in Hannah's room and invited her to a party only to treat her as a taxi ride, there was no picture involved with her either Tyler wasn't on the tapes for spreading a picture around, it was for stalking her and making her feel unsafe in her own room Hannah cuts her hair during the Marcus/Zach events (more significant than it sounds, because it's noted that one sign of being suicidal is a sudden change in appearance) Justin and Jessica weren't dating at the time of the party, they just hooked up. Justin didn't offer much resistance to Bryce wanting to go in the room either. The hot tub incident happens at Courtney's house, not Bryce's. Courtney was the only other person in the hot tub with them and got out and left when Bryce started getting handsy. The poem Ryan publishes is different, it makes more reference to being alone and no lacy underwear. There's no mention of Hannah's parents sueing the school. Clay sends the tapes on to Jenny the next morning, nothing happens with the 2nd set that Tony has. Clay doesn't send out a picture of Tyler
That's all the significant changes I can think of, the wording of the tapes and dialogue is different as well

Casting announcements for Fame and Hairspray have both come out in the past week, and both have slim girls playing Tracy and Mabel, both of whom are described as large multiple times in the script. I have friends in Royal Caribbean's Grease at the moment and their Jan (described in the casting call as a "chubby compulsive eater") is maybe a size 10. Why bother telling stories about fat girls if you're not going to cast them?

There's a special place in hell reserved for parents who bring their young children to a restaurant/pub and let them run around and do whatever they want (Sometimes in bare feet. In a pub!) and expect the waitresses to act as cheap childminders.
I actually get a kind of dark enjoyment out of a child falling over when I've told them multiple times to stop running in the restaurant. It's quite satisfying. Like a back massage or a cold shower in a heatwave.
She'll probably do it at the Queen's theatre at some point.
Do you think? I've never seen Willemijn Verkaik live, or even heard her sing, but according to Wiki she's 43 next month. So will be 44 by the time Carley Stenson finishes in London. I suspect if she was going to play Fantine, she would have done so by now.
I was going to say that she would possibly be the oldest actress to play Fantine, but I've absolutely nothing to back that up. Anyone know who the oldest Fantine has been?
Not sure if she's the oldest, but Judy Kuhn was 48 when she closed the 1st Broadway revival in 2007.

When I saw the show around this time last year I felt it was very "drama school", save the Thenardiers, Valjean and Javert I might have been watching a NYMT production. A former cast member said in one of Zoe Doano's vlogs that they hold auditions at some of the top drama schools, which explains all the new graduates. I suppose it gives some actors a much-needed headstart in the industry.

Casting calls for all the roles except Ms Fleming, Heather McNamara, Tam & JD have been posted on Spotlight, so those have probably all been cast already as well.

I'm surprised she put Burn on her album considering how much of a tantrum she threw when one person questioned whether she should sing it on her channel
It’s a bit annoying isn’t it, but can’t deny “broadway version” sounds better than “the one Gareth Gates did in Milton Keynes”.
How did the broadway version actually switch to the UK version? Did they take it off for a break and come back with the new design?
Les Mis hasn't run on Broadway non-stop like it has in London, the original production closed in 2003 with a revival with the same staging 2006-08, then it was revived again with the new sets/costumes/etc in 2014

£18 front row rush seats from TodayTix a few days ago - can't complain! A few thoughts on the show: This is Carolyn's show, through and through, despite how much the advertising hypes up Anna O'Byrne. CHILLS during both All For Laura's. Chris Peluso also a highlight, very believably villainous but also charming, with a near-perfect accent. Diction a little sloppy on his maybe 2 spoken lines, but I've always found it's easier to sing in a different accent than to speak in it. In general, a fantastic cast. The main issue is the material. It's very over-dramatic in a "classic ALW" way, basically trying to be another Phantom but the story doesn't really lend itself to that kind of musical. Phantom worked with its bombasic music and melodrama because of the characters and setting, the character of the Phantom himself is basically the definition of over-dramatic. TWIW however would do better as a Sondheim type show. The lyrics are amusingly cringy at times, there were a lot of points where I'd think "oh I know what they're going to rhyme this with" and the lyricist really needs lessons in subtlety. I had to laugh at the lead up to Glyde's introduction, Walter asks Anne who wronged her and she says "Sir Percival Glyde" twice and Walter repeat it, then there's the revelation that Laura is engaged to him, then when he finally enters "Sir Percival Glyde" is sung over and over just to really hammer the point home that THIS IS THE BAD GUY COMING IN. I did enjoy the clever rhymes in some parts, they worked well for Marian and the uncle, one an intelligent young woman whose mind probaly runs a hundred miles an hour, the other a sarcastic old man. The show starts very oddly and abruptly with Walter just singing "hello there", I feel it needs an overture or opening song to properly lead the audience into a sung-through musical format.
{Spoiler - click to view} The ending is a little contrived: why did Glyde go to the trouble of killing Anne and having her switch places with Laura instead of killing both? If he wanted the fortune it would be in his best interest to ensure Laura couldn't stop him getting it or reveal he was in debt and had motive to fake her death that way. Especially with the asylum apparently had such lax security that Anne escape several times. It just meant that Laura and Marian could be reuinted while Anne webt through a horrible experience and was just killed when she was more useful dead than alive.

Saw this last night in Brighton (the final stop as far as I'm aware) Thoughts: Odd staging with handheld microphones for some of the songs, it worked well for Those Magic Changes because it's whats-his-name's fantasy of being adulated, but for Greased Lightning & YTOTIW it got in the way. Danielle Hope is perfect for this role, some lovely high notes hit. I could swear I heard some audience members singing along from Hopelessly Devoted onwards, if that was the case they deserved a slap. Tom Parker acted well as Danny, especially considering this is his first stage role. Good comedic timing on the drive-in scene. Not quite vocally up to it & cut some high notes short in Sandy. Unfortunately Danny is written as a complete arsehole and can't really be anything else no matter how he's played. Very upset they cut Freddy My Love, one of my favourites, meaning Marty had nothing to do. She, Frenchy and Jan along with the interchangable T-Birds made the most of thankless roles. Louisa Lytton's acting felt like a watered-down version from the film, she could have gone a lot further especially with mocking Sandy. Vocally not quite up to it either, notes cut short in TAWTICD when that song's supposed to be the most powerful of the show. Ensemble outstanding, as is often the case with these shows. Charlotte Coggin, Callum Evans & George Olney were particular standouts with George hitting some crazy notes as Teen Angel.

She has a good stretch of time to play Candy Crush, after The Confrontation she doesn’t come back on until One Day More.
I read somewhere that this was the case because during the original production rehearsals Patti LuPone made herself scarce when they were rehearsing those scenes until the director cracked down and put her in ODM 😄
Must be quite entertaining to watch internationally acclaimed greats like Lea Salonga, Rachelle Ann Go & Judy Kuhn play bullet boys!

When I went I just said "can I have one ticket for tonight's show?" then showed my Student Equity ID & said I knew I could get a discount for it, they'll normally just take it from there and get you the best deal. My ticket was reduced from £69.50 so they won't give you premium seats but the next ones down, still pretty good (I was centre stalls).
